Which is worth forking out extra for; an i7 over a i5 or a SSD?

get an i5 and an SSD

a computer is something you will use every day. I learned from experience that it is best not to cheap out on them. You will at least be using it for 2-3 years, right?

8 cores > 4 cores
basically
computations in the cpu unit are twice as fast
because you have twice as many cores

ssd is twice as fast loading
you dont load that much shit
once you load it its in RAM for some time
its more important to do operations faster than load faster especially in games

Get the SSD. Without knowing your workload, I imagine the order of magnitude increase in disk IO will be more useful than 4 additional task schedulers in a CPU.
