LED caused damage even at 500 lux, which is normal indoor illuminance.

With dilluted pupils (That's abnormal) or at exposure of 24h (Do you sleep with open eyes and the lights on? This is also abnormal)
>>
>>58353147
Yeah if you stare directly into a bright one for 12 hours it may damage your eyes.
The CFL bulbs just emit slightly lower levels of harmful UV light. Your monitors, tablets and phones are all emitting harmful light.
The sun emits a full spectrum of harmful shit all day.
And everything causes cancer.

>>58353642
And be staring directly into the bulb so there is no scattering or absorption of rays.

The albino rats were fucked up even in completely normal conditions (normal on/off cycles without dilated pupils). After only one month.
>>
>>58353721
Yes, but only the albino rats.
And albino is pretty far from the norm.

It basically says that the normal rats under normal conditions were perfectly fine.

It stands for Pretty Wonderful Modulation.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's simple and works.
The problem comes when you, like Lenovo, use low frequencies like 100-200Hz to drive something with very fast switching times like LEDs.

halogen is master race. It does everything an incandescent does while using less power and lasting longer. they get hot as fuck, tho. like, fry an egg hot.
>>
>>58354683
i do realize that, but my point considering the single light bulb is still valid, no matter how you look at it.
>>
>>58355262
Mine flickers at about 60Hz.
Only noticeable when you move things around fast enough at which point it's really distracting. Like living in a video game.
>>
>>58355711
halogens are fine too my friend.
they basically are still incandescent in some way. i like halogens in the bathroom for that 3000k light but in the bedroom i really perfer a dimmed normal bulb
>>
>>58355711
>lasting longer
Not really anon. Unless there are some really good halogens I have no idea about, the lifespan of single incandescent bulb is 2-3 times longer from my experience.
>>
>>58355777
To me it's not just distracting, it literally makes my eyes red and veiny.
>>
>>58355777
>>58355839
what do you mean by flicker? I've got a 1000lumen LED and even with filming with slowmo on my iphone I see no flickering.
>>
>>58355954
The light output is not constant. If I wave my hand in front of my face I can see multiple images. It's a bit like being in a disco with a strobe light.
>>
>>58353888
>how does physics work
>>
>>58355954
It completely depends on the LED's power supply.
Cheap shitty power supplies (like the ones in affordable LED light bulbs) won't provide nice smooth DC, so the LEDs will flicker.

They're everywhere in the UK. Okay, not everywhere, but I never struggle to find them. They're labelled as "rough service" bulbs so that they don't hit the restrictions on domestic bulbs.

I have a love-hate relationship with them. They waste an obscene amount of power, but all the alternatives seem to suck in one way or another.
>>
Monitors tend to be in the 300-400 lux area, if they're good, so it'd be nice to have had that comparison, since that's probably the most repeated direct long term exposure people have. With work and all. Still seem like a good argument to use uv reduction film on glasses.

So I reinstalled an old incandescent bulb a few hours ago because every evening/night I'd get headache and just generally my eyes would feel tired (like when you're looking into a telescope for too long or something like that), and I gotta say it feels so much easier on my eyes now. Although it literally uses 10 times as much power, but my health is more important for me. And anyways, I'll still use my LED bulbs in the kitchen and bathroom and whatever. But for reading and working the incandescent is much better.

I would be interested in buying some cheap spectrometer just to fool around with it. Are they any cheap?
>>
>>58360118

Many cheapo LED lights use el cheapo Chinese LED control circuits that produce vast amounts of RF noise and flicker like mad. Given the lax QA checks and longevity we will have a serious RF smog going for 20 years minimum.

>>

No. They're anywhere from several hundred dollars to a few $K. And you generally have to pay extra for software that will talk to them (unless you're on linux, it's all been reverse engineered there).

Oh, and no warm white LED has a spectrum that looks like that.

Does anybody have experience with reliably dimming those LED bitches without flickering? I was thinking on getting me some 100W equivalents and dim them whenever my eyes burn. But it seems dimming is generally a flickery business.

Part of the reason why I'm sticking to Halogen is because LEDs don't dim, unless you buy a special bulb that costs twice as much.

You don't get it. The sun puts out far more blue light than an LED could ever produce. If you really think this light is harmful, you should be worried about avoiding the sun, not LEDs.

>LEDs don't dim

Not true at all, any decent LED will dim.

>>Halogen is awesome.

I still remember once upon a time when halogens where considered literally worse than hitler, causing cancer and shit

Why is Europe so comfy? Also, just buy halogen or 3000K led, they're fine.

High-CRI(>90%) LED bulbs

an i1Pro with ArgyllCMS would suffice for approximate measurements
Argyll's spotread can measure the CRI but it's command line only

No. LED bulbs just need special circuitry to handle dimming, which has nothing to do with the quality of LEDs themselves and filtering capacitors. You can have a dimmable bulb with bottom of the barrel 60CRI Chinese LEDs, and you can have a high quality non-dimmable one (IKEA sells some).

>Are leds really flickering?

Cheap Chinese bulbs skimp on smoothing capacitors and just drive LEDs through a diode rectifier and a simple capacitive voltage dropper. These will flicker at 100 Hz worse than old linear fluorescent tubes. Also, the lumens stated on the box will be probably inflated as fuck.
If you're an europoo, go buy some bulbs from Ikea, they have almost no bad ones:

we should put out the sun because it can cause retinal damage

Except the energy saving bulbs aren't any more expensive. I'll bet they're cheaper, even.

Literally nothing changed because LED's don't cost shit any more.

just jewgle/fuckfuckno/unbubble/startpage it. Back in the '90s halogen was found responsible for causing cancer, but it was also found that a thin layer of glass was enough to absorb the cancer rays - it "should" be enough for an halogen to be 360° layered with such glass, something that back in the days wasn't so common, especially for tubular halogens.
