my first smartphone was a Nokia Lumia 520
It was 100€ and it still works perfectly.
For its price it's hands down the best phone I've ever owned.
smooth os is a plus. but there are many apps missing.
if you're a basic user they are overall a good choice.

GUI is fucking incredible, it's like people sat down at a table to discuss about how people use phones, what they do with those, and how they should try to answer those needs. It's smooth as fuck, practical, stable, reliable... it's like the Series 40/60 equivalent to smartphones. WP7 and 8 were great, WP10 is a mistake though, they should have never switched from the CE kernel. CE kernel + app support = pure perfection. NT kernel - app support = no.

Now because WP will soon be dead and I need to use plenty advanced apps, I switched to Android. And it's a fucking mess. I'm currently building my own launcher from scratch and will soon get to making my custom widgets and apps because everything on Android is FUCKING GARBAGE.

Plenty of people bought wp7 devices, and suddenly a year later they smugly announced wp7 will not be able to update to wp8 and they have the gall to expect people will continue to buy their phone lol

Most Androids are still on fucking 4.0, and Apple pushes updates that ruins performance and breaks previously working features.

But somehow Android always gets a free pass because "wow just flash it/you shouldn't have bought this phone hahaha", and Apple because Apple. But Microsoft remains the eternal scapegoat.

I recently bought a 550 for my father considering he wanted something new. Frankly I'm not disappointed, it has all the basics covered properly, and it seems easy enough to learn. Only thing I really hated was how the store was barely functional.

Lol if u actually have a wp7 device you should know what kind of horrid performance it has to offer. Ffs opening new message in whatsapp requires you to reload whatsapp from beginning and wait for its 20 second load. This is not happening in ios/android. Even if you choose the app resume way (hold back button) its ...resuming... Animation took another 20 sec

I used WP7 and didn't have this problem. Maybe you shouldn't have used a phone with such low RAM.

Maybe you could blame Whatsapp too, who would rather eat all your ram on android/ios to run "fast" rather than manage its memory properly.

An app that displays fucking text messages shouldn't take more than 50MB ram.

Loved my Nokia 320 with WP 8.1 but late last year it died. Bricked overnight after 3 years of loyal service. Switched back to Android since there were no new WP options other than one top-of-the-line WP 10 that has mixed reviews.

MS is discontinuing the Lumia line and will eventually come out with Surface phones. Time will tell what comes of this, and if it's pretty gud I'll go back to them. WP is the best phone GUI ever. It needs solid hardware and app support to survive.

dude, mine is a lumia 800, it was one of the wp7 flagship and you are lying if you told me you never have to reload the apps when you tap those notification.

And not just whatsapp, Line, kik, etc also perform as bad, especially line.

The only apps that instantly ready when you hold the back button is the built in apps and a frickin plants vs zombie

WP devices are impossible of find. Microsoft dont sell directly of their webpage; Apple and Samsung sell his devices using their webpages, when you need ebay or amazon for get WP devices.

I loved the UI in WP7 but the design got diluted and generic. WP is pretty dead now but Microsoft has at least one more chance at reviving it with a dockable Surface Phone.
