What about a refurbished business desktop, then add a graphics card down the road? I can spot a couple of 2nd gen i5 ones for 100-120€, pretty sure you guys could find the same for less.

Probably bad luck on that one m8. I did this a couple of times, and as long as you don't go full retard with a power hungry gpu, you should be good to go. Enterprise pc's need to provide a good return on investment, so they need to last. And I did notice the psu's (at least the standard atx ones) at a step above the common chink shit.
Of course down the road you could replace the psu with an at least recent one to be on the safe side.

Don't bother, I'm assuming you're looking for older Dell or HP cpus, then you're SOL, especially the SFF ones.

I bought one of the i7 3rd gen ones and turns out they have different connectors, you can probably buy an adapter but they're hard to find and can burn your house down.

Ah. I've seen some of those, sff for the most part. Even atx's are getting them, but ones from 5 years ago with standard connectors still relatively easy to find. As long as you research about the board beforehand you should be set, but I still stick by my original statement: the standard psu should be able to handle a lightweight gpu. For the most part they used the same psu's for models with integrated graphics, and quadros/firepros
