It's thanks to lunatics like you that Linux will never succeed as desktop OS. I bet you put CHMOD in your resume.
>>58344255
We're talking about a simple program here you retard. You don't need a fancy UI to download videos and audio files from youtube. It's light and efficient.
youtube-dl or jDownloader 2
>>58343995
You can use the -x flag to get audio. RTFM you faggot.

Don't listen to this autists. All you need to do is enable Stereo Mix as a recording device and then use Audacity to record the audio and them export it to whatever format you want.
It's simple, fast and has a GUI. That's why this autists aren't telling you to do it this way.

>>58344048
You are welcome to develop your own GUI based tool for downloading YouTube videos.
>>58344255
youtube-dl is not a Linux program. It's a cross-platform script written in Python. Funny enough, the post that you had initially quoted, complaining about it needing two executions to get done, was of youtube-dl being used from a Windows command prompt.
How do you install AtomicParsley for youtube-dl?
>>58349090
grab a fork
>>58351475
But i'm not hungry
>>58351500
you're not going to use it for that. grab the fork and a toaster.

Dump the video file in highest quality, then use ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vn -c:a copy output.m4a

yes

Why?
The new UI is taking more memory.

Every time I start youtube-dl i get a command prompt for a split second and it closes automatically. I use windows 7 SP1. WTF is going on?
>>58351935
The problem is that you are using Windows and that you are a retard.
I assume you literally fucking downloaded it and clicked on it. When the script is done it closes itself, and windows launches a terminal to execute the script, and closes it once it is done.
Open a terminal in the folder and open it from the terminal you fucking faggot.

Welcome to /g/.
Here in /g/, we are computer literate and prefer to use GNU/Linux because it is superior in every way.
Since your IQ is lower than my farming level on runescape, I'll explain it in baby steps.
Youtube-dl is not a program that uses a GUI, it is a Python script that outputs to a terminal.
You require Python to run this script.
Now put the youtube-dl program in a position that is easily reachable from the windows command prompt, like in C:\ or something.
Open your start menu and insert "cmd" in your search bar.
Click on the fucking cmd thingy
Go to the directory using "dir" and "cd". Pretty sure it's jut "cd C:\" or something.
Insert the name of the program if it's in exe form, or do "python [program name]" to execute it.
Congratulations, my Runescape farming level went up by 1.

>DIRECTLY rip the audio quickly from a YouTube video
I use Youtube-dl. But apparently, after reading this thread, I am autistic or retarded or both.
If you are using a web browser like Firefox then seach their addons:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
You will find a ton of addons that will do what you need. Once upon a time I used an addon called FlashGot. I know it will download the audio only formats from YT. But I don't know if it can extract the audio from a container (ytdl does this by calling ffmpeg).
>>58343850
By DIRECTLY fucking off.
If I use youtube-dl to download videos, does it still give the uploader views?
>>58352296
