So, now that the new i7 7700K is coming out, will we still be able to buy the older 6700K?
If so, will it cost less? By how much?

Also, I wanted an i7 6700K to run W7 on. is there anything I should be wary about?

Thanks in advance.

Caved in and ordered a 4K monitor.
I don't do a lot of gaming, but I still do some.
I know my 760 isn't powerful enough for pushing twice the pixels as my prior 2*1080p setup; should I go for a 1070 or stick with upgrading to a 1060?

cpu prices will not drop like they do with GPU's.

maybe cpu prices will drop a little.. but intel really own the market. they can set their own prices.
>>
>>58341831
Ah damn, so a 6700K will cost about the same as a 7700K?
Will they be available, or Intel will stop producing them and we'll only be able to buy only those currently in stock?

Reposting, because the other thread was essentially dead.

Alright /g/, I've got 2 stupid questions that are completely unrelated:

1. What is THE best small screwdriver set that has every kind of tiny screwdriver you could need in a compact, self-contained package? I was about to pull the trigger on this: https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/64-Bit-Driver-Kit/IF145-299 but then I realized /g/ probably has a better alternative.

2. My LAN at home should theoretically all be 1gbps, but there's a bottleneck in one of the ethernet cables I'm using to 100mbps. I'm fairly certain that all my cables are 5e because they've all been purchased within the last 5 years, but is there some way to run some kind of test on your LAN and figure out where bottlenecks are?

I have a gigabit switch, my router is an ASUS rt66nu, and all recent motherboard ethernet ports should be gigabit capable, no? I guess I just don't understand why transfers between computers over LAN seem to be going at 100mbps.

>>58341831
GPU prices don't even drop nowadays. They drop a little, then shoot up when they stop production so you can buy the expensive next model

ALRIGHT I GOTTA STUPID QUESTION FOR YOUR ASSES.

I want to buy this GPU. I don't overclock cards, or mess with any of that shit. I don't understand what the difference is between this one and the double-wide one with two fans. Is the performance the same? Is it just so it stays cooler? Or just that the mini card can fit in smaller cases?

I've had my Nexus 5 CM11 for over 2 years working without issues, I don't have play store or any of that botnet nor bloated apps. Today it started acting weird, FCing apps and soft reseting (so I know its not the famous shitty power button) and resetting app data and configurations. Could it be that the internal emmc is shitting itself?

my printer is just about out of black ink, but i don't have the time to get a new cartridge right now
supposedly, single cartridge mode is suppsoed to be a fix for this, where all the colors make black or something. but that didn't work at all, it just says "low on ink" even though the black cartridge isn't in the printer and the color cartridge is almost full, and nothing prints.

Every few days, 2 weeks at most, it's not regular, my windows 7 machine will lose the ability to open new connections over the internet. Loading web pages or connecting to other services just times out. The only exception is already established services like SSH sessions using putty or if I'm streaming audio or video.

In addition to that, I can't open folders or some other applications. I can't open the control panel or command line to check my IP. I can't even get into the task manager to see if anything is hogging the system. I also can't issue a shut down or restart and have to forcefully power cycle the computer. A couple of times this has happened over remote desktop and when I disconnect and try to reconnect again, it just hangs there trying to connect. When I try to log in at the computer itself, it just hangs at logging me in...

When it comes back up, it's like nothing happened. Everything works great. I'm getting no errors or other indication that anything is wrong before and during. Leaving the machine to "process" for a few days didn't fix the issue. The only solution is to force a power off.

Any ideas?
inb4 switch to linux or mac, I have 3 Macs and 2 Linux workstations in the same office, and no, they don't have the same problem.
>>
>>58342378
shorter ones are for small form factor PCs mainly
they have a smaller cooler so they don't overclock as much as the full size versions

all cards today overclock automatically (it's called gpu boost or turbo or whatever) based on thermals, power usage, firmware and clock settings which you can adjust

if you have a normal sized case there is no reason to buy a small form factor card. maybe the price might be an argument but those aren't significantly cheaper imo

I had the same issue with Cox a few years back. Connection would drop like a lead weight about a couple times an hour. After several calls in to figure out what was up, they finally sent a tech out to check the signal and equipment, and everything seemed to check out. Finally, one thing they had me try was moving the cable modem's power plug from the power strip it was plugged into to having it directly plugged into the wall.

Surprisingly enough, it worked, and I never had the problem again except when the modem itself finally started to fail.

SMART values aren't standardized, so drives from different manufacturers will store the information in a different way that may trigger false positives in third party utilities. Add to that the fact that this means they typically aren't human-readable either. Get a diagnostic utility directly from Fujitsu and see what it says.

These days a 500£ tv will usually end up being 4k whether you like it or not, which is stressfull to your GPU, but you can turn the resolution down. does anyone know how to make the g430s louder?
>>
>>58345111
Not really one article. You'd have to understand how they all work to understand the differences. In the case of RAM you're pretty much just throwing an electric charge in a cell, then checking back to see if that charge is still there. It's super fast and responsive, but if you don't keep electricity flowing to maintain that charge, it will vanish in seconds to minutes, depending on the temperature of the ram. HDDs are at least 100 times slower. They have spinning parts which are super unresponsive for random access, and it takes a super long time to magnetically write a cell. SSDs use chemical reactions instead of magnets to store their data, like flash drives. They're only about 10 times slower than ram, and can be accessed much more evenly. Writing an individual cell on SSD is actually slower than HDD, but since you can write to multiple locations on an SSD at the same time, it's like having multiple flash drives in raid 0, so it's much faster overall

It's really not possible to know whether your drive is going to fail tomorrow or in 5 years. But statistically drives that pull up the errors you've gotten are much more likely to fail then ones that still have a clean bill of health. If it's under any kind of warentee, I'd look into getting a replacement, and if you do try and use it, I would keep everything backed up

Depends on who's tracing it. Your ISP would know, and anyone with access to their records.

You'd probably be best checking the documentation.

Alternatively you could run `strings` on the binary and check for possible values but that'd be a bit tedious.

Honestly though, if a program doesn't respect your home folder and just pollutes it I would say the prospects there is something to configure this a little slim.

My router regularly drops wifi connections.
- Restart fixes the problem but only temporarily. Sometimes just for a few minutes.
- Happens even when there is only 1 wifi connection (me)
- Some pages won't load and app connections will become choppy.
- - facebook messenger can't send and receive messages even though it refreshes just fine; games gets 'failed to connect to server errors'
- - my FTP for local files will stop at 0.0 MB/s and will not report 'no connection' until I turn off my wifi connection or restart the router.
- - these apps can and will report 'no internet connection' if wifi is not connected. so it means that the apps can detect the wifi connection, it just can't send and receive data.

What could be the problem here? What settings can I tweak to fix this? I can't buy a new router now.

I had Samsung spinpoint, WD greens and now a Seagate one die on me too, and not one of them actually beat the 2 year mark - the PC is NOT running 24/7, half days at most and I adjusted head parking for them.

You can upgrade things for one. And near the end of a generation consoles get pretty long in the tooth. Plus you can get better deals on PC games, there's more selection, backwards compatibility, emulators, way more mods. You have more graphics options if you want things to look amazing or run smoother. 3D,144 fps for shooters, 1440p or 4k helps in strategy games. Multiple screens. Running more than one thing at a time. Mouse and keyboard is a must for some types of games and more useful in general than you would expect. More storage options. Browser based games. Multiple controller options.

I'd sy 64gb at a bare minimum, 120gb ideally, and you'd want to include a hard drive big enough for whatever games/media you need. if the cpu name ends in a 'K' then it is meant for overclocking, and you're expected to buy an aftermarket cooler.

If it doesn't end in a K then I think every cpu will include a fan.

You can use web developer tools in your browser to view the error, or server logs if the problem is in PHP.

I think you need to set the header in PHP before echoing:
header('Content-type: application/json');

no, no, they're retarded. only tried the eye-fi which sounded like the best option in reviews.

it creates a custom wi-fi network and then you have an app on your phone that disconnects you from whatever your connected to, connects to the card wifi, and downloads photos from there (it's marketed toward photographers). then your phone syncs it to a (paid) cloud service.

however the wifi doesnt appear 1 in 5 times. the app never connects automatically so youll have to do it yourself. then the app doesnt find any new images anyway.

in reviews, the other options were even more retarded or error-riddled. and none of them worked with magic lantern, which is a custom firmware for my camera that boots of the sd card. apparently when you write that to the card, the wifi-things firmware gets overwritten.
>>
>>58348735

What aspect of my computer could be the cause of issues like [pic related] occurring?

After moving the tab, that small faded preview remains stuck there in Firefox. Even if I minimize the browser, that small preview will remain visible in the same spot on my desktop.

This only happens after Windows 7 has been running for several hours, and it never used to happen.
>>
>>58348735
Well, that's kind of dumb. If they have the tech to put wifi into a SD/microSD card format, then it seems like there'd be a million uses for it if you could map it to a network drive.

At first I thought it was Firefox only, because I always notice it there first. Also occurs with Desktop icons though, so I'm assuming something Windows related directly.

I've tried reinstalling graphics drivers, firefox, and getting the recent Windows Updates. I've also tried forcing a restart of Explorer.exe and DWM.exe, but the issue remained until I did a full computer reboot.

I have an FX 8350 with an ASUS m5a97 le r2.0, and it's shit. Using the Corsair whatever liquid cooler, and the temps are fine. Playing Battlefield 1, the framerates are absolutely fine but then the CPU decides to suddenly drop from 75% usage to about 25%, and the framerate goes along with it, dipping to 15-20 fps. I tried forcing max CPU performance from all cores, I tried messing with various settings in BIOS, yet nothing seems to fix it.

Is it just AMD being AMD? I swear I'm this close to buying an Intel.

Installed Win7.
Installed my Ethernet driver from my MB page. (Also later tried direct from Realtek)
Try to download GPU driver (313MB), gets 30ish% through, stops and never starts again.
Try to download GPU driver again, gets 45% and never starts again.
Did this 5 times, both in Chrome and IE.

Decided fuck it, I'll use my brother's PC to get the GPU driver. I figured it was their fault not mine (AMD Radeon),
GPU drivers install fine.
Try to install Steam. Initial update stops half way through and never starts again.
