Thoughts on *BSD?
I think it's gay shit for faggots.

Their users shit up Linux threads with great regularity. I really don't think much about BSD. Will my skylake+480 run flawlessly? Does bsd support that? If did I would try it. But it seems really old and under maintained. I understand it has a great network stack. Just seems even further behind Linux in development.
BSD is good if you want your code stolen by hundreds of companies who will give nothing back.

I'm not the person you're responding to, but I agree with your viewpoint. The question is not whether it is being stolen it's that your non-restrictive license is actually damaging to the open source community.
By not legally obligating those who improve the code to contribute back, you're robbing ALL those who decide to download your code of at least some potential future improvements by others. It's less about what other people are stealing from you and more about what other people _aren't_ giving back.
Any code I write that I'll be using for monetary gain is protected and private.
All other code is GPL'd.
You shouldn't steal from others with no benefit to yourself. FFS at least get something for all the potential improvements you're robbing these suckers of.

From the copyleft mindset GPL is the most free
From the permissive mindset Public Domain is the most free
BSD is neither here nor there in terms of freedom.
Can we stop bullying *BSD fags? They are always in a pain anyway.
Look at the bright side, they are using an open source platform and encouraging wincucks to welcome to the OSS world
I think we should stop infighting
>>58332069
Would love too, and I am sure not all the BSD community is like this.

>But there are some strange people trying to push this anti-GPL idea
It's almost as if opinions exist and that the GPL is in some people's opinions an inferior license. Crazy concept, I know. But you've really got to try and wrap your head around it.

To be fair you people are also constantly complaining about "communism lol" memes as well.
Can we stop this?
It hurts me as a dev when I see OSS fags fighting each other like this.
Will the BSDfags going to stop shitposting every Linux thread?
Will they stop shilling the BSD/MIT license for later mocking the developers who complaining about the BSD license afterwards?
Will they?
>>58332204
They are not BSD fags. It's mostly winfags with the exception of one extremely butthurt macfag.
Want to shitpost? Pick up sqt or speccy
>>58332228
Okay, it makes sense winfags assume the disguise of legit BSD fags.
It doesn't solve the problem of these trolls but at least give us an idea of who may be behind.
bsd is failing for a reason. its useless and serves no actual purpose
>>58332255
Sure thing, kiddo. Totally useless. Meanwhile you use OpenBSD software on a daily basis.

OpenSSH, tmux, sudo

ill accept, sure i dont but i meant more "commonly used"
>>58332470
sudo as in terminal sudo? wow didnt know it was bsd. whats tmux.
it was more because op was bsd, not open bsd.
>>58332557
tmux is a terminal multiplexer
if you've seen GNU screen, it's like that
it's also useful if you need to leave something running but you also need to log out, you can just detach a tmux session and reattach them, that's mostly what i use it for
>>58332557
>it was more because op was bsd, not open bsd.
OP is about BSD operating systems, of which OpenBSD is one. You claimed *BSD is useless, which means they all are, so I used OpenBSD as an example because of the software they write that's commonly used in other operating systems.

You are right. You willing forfeit your ownership of the code, therefore allowing anyone to use it at their discretion. It is not stolen code.

BSD is a cuck license.

Threadly reminder
My company's server runs on FreeBSD but I don't think it's for a particular reason
They don't use exclusive BSD features like ZFS or jails
The only reason I can think of is that the admin wants to secure his job

*BSD is a server OS that will work like shit for desktop use
>>58330108
Hardware support isn't something that's too greatly supported on the BSDs, but in the case of FreeBSD we realize this to be a problem. It's been ignored for a while but work is being done now. There are other issues and people often work on other things, but we do know that the end user might not be that comfortable in a FreeBSD environment. It's great if you know operating systems and are capable to develop one, makes Linux seem like a useless toy, but thats not the majority of users.
>>58338004
Depends on which one you're talking about. FreeBSD's developed as a server OS, a lot of the devs run OS X. OpenBSD, on the other hand, is developed and dogfooded as a desktop OS.
>>58338574
I thought OpenBSD was designed as a router/firewall OS, and that it happened to be built well enough to decently function on a desktop?
Would Mostly everything work ootb?

Your milage may wary a lot, it seems.
>>58332557
Last I checked, out of the top-50 projects on github, only one was GPL. All others were MIT, BSD, Apache, or derivatives thereof. No points for guessing which was GPL licensed.
>>58342414
Fucking ha. This is legitimately brilliant.
>>58342485
According to statistics posted last year, +60% is MIT, BSD or Apache licensed, while GPL only accounts for 34%.
>ITT: cucks
I don't care about licenses at all. piratebay has a keygen for anything, so why sould I care?

"When a police officer showed up the tech entrepreneur's home Monday morning, the doors were locked, according to the records. But inside, he could see Murdock's naked body lying face down on the stairs -- and a vacuum electrical cord wound tightly around his neck, according to the medical examiner's report. The vacuum cleaner was positioned at the top of the stairs, behind the railing."

There are no real BSD shills here at least, it's just hipsters who only got into linux because they thought it made them special snowflakes. Then it got too mainstream, so they went for something even more stupid.
