Going to sell my 970 and get an amd finewine™ fury and live out the next 5-6 years.
Already rocking /cheapxeons/ for bulk compute and at intel's current speed won't get anything for a decade.

1080 owners are gonna feel the same way once amd releases the 490 and nvidia has a reason to let loose the 1080 ti.

Pretty basic business decision, actually. They made it more "exclusive" to invite intrigue and promote a new, unknown brand. It gave them an edge when they were surrounded by what seemed like the consolidated oligopolies of the smartphone world. If they hadn't marketed it like that they woulda been dead in the water for not securing early preorders and investors.

Yeah, upgraded from the x5650, and sold the dx58so board. Using the evga x58 with it for a PC for my nephew. Combined with a 979 ftw that an incredibly generous friend gave me for the cost of shipping. It'll be a very capable system for him to get into pc gaming. Just had to do a simple mod to the mobo to get the cpu to work.

The x79 system was a hell of a deal, CPU was tested in an incompatible motherboard and I caught it right after the seller dropped the price. Motherboard was tested with an ivy bridge cpu, after replacing the bios chip with an updated one everything worked just fine. Someone prior tried it as well because the chip I removed had a pin folded over.

Thrift shops with electronics sections (particularly Goodwill) usually put out overpriced, refurbished machines, but occasionally they have a junker pile of stripped laptops or tower chassis with only MB and CPU.
The laptops are usually the better deals, I got a Latitude E6400 with a Quadro NVS160m for $25, swapped out the stock C2D for a faster one and it is absolutely based.
