1080p is borderline overkill for a phone. It you don't believe me, set a lower custom resolution. You'll hardly notice the difference if at all.

If I could get a new phone with all the specs I wanted, I'd pick a 1080p screen over 1440 just for the battery life. My phone has a 1440p screen and I really don't think it makes a difference

I have a 5.5 inch 720p phone with a 3000mah battery and it has a 6 hour SoT. Compared my old phone with a 5.7 inch 1440p with the same size battery which only had a 4 hour SoT. I hardly noticed a difference between the two. But the trade off was well worth it when it came to resolution.
