Even Tumbleweed is less prone to breaking than Neon.

I installed Kubuntu and installed XFCE on the side and tried using XFCE and holy shit, it was completely broken and I couldn't figure out how to change it. Yet on Xubuntu I can install KDE and use it fine.

Ubuntu highly recommends that if you want to change your DE, you change your *Bunutu flavor.

>KDE Neon is what the KDE kids usually recommend

the problem is that it's what the kids recommend,

http://jriddell.org/2016/11/14/upgrade-for-kde-neon-security-issue/

>Checking the config it seemed I’d made the nasty error of leaving it open to the world rather than requiring an ssh gateway to access the apt repository, so anyone scanning around could have uploaded packages.

>the Fedora 23 KDE Spin (which is now final or almost final) is easily the worst KDE Spin we have ever released

the non-gnome fedora spins are historically unstable and unpolished pieces of shit and the kde spin is no exception to that, on the past few releases (since at least fedora 21) I've personally experienced a metric ton of bugs that require convoluted workarounds to the point where I gave up on using kde

I mean I'm sure fedora's kde spin works well on a single monitor, non-laptop setup where you don't want to configure anything but as the distro being touted as so configurable it's bloated it doesn't seem intuitive

So what would you recommend?

I use this combination and it is working flawless since October's update. Rarely I got an interface bug.

OpenSUSE pretty much has the best implementation of the KDE desktop. It even has firefox patched to mix in properly, something other distros usually lack.

Last time I tried KDE Neon (which was half a year ago) it was so fucking unstable I couldn't even login properly without half the thing crashing out of agony. Kubuntu matured a bit but isn't perfect either.

There's also Arch and Gentoo if you want to go that route. I know it works great on Arch, as long as pacman isn't fucking things up.
>>
>>58287055
Debian. Update to testing if you want Plasma.
>>

Is KDE/Plasma any stable now?
I can have months of uptime without restarting my Xorg session with Xfce. Is it even remotely possible with Plasma?

>Is there any good KDE distro? I want some stable shit

When I research this in the summer, I came to the conclusion that KDE-5 isn't ready yet.

So I went with Mint 17.3 KDE -- the final KDE-4-based distro. I'm hoping to stay on this version for the next two years, and then then hopefully KDE-5 might be ready.

well if you'd like a more stable kde-based desktop, I'd recommend trinity. It's kde3 (the last version that actually fucking worked) but being developed seperately from the original developers.

>>
>>58287055
how does this affect battery life?
>>
>>58293751
KDE and Gnome 3 use lot of eye candy and hardware acceleration. their compositors are not optimized for laptops. that is why unity gives like 5 hours battery vs. gnome3/kde 2hr 20min with the same laptop.

that is why I rather use xfce or unity than these trash DE's.

As a redditor, all of these are false.

It's a shame it still doesn't have a proper file picker.
