Post 'em, friends!

Any upgrades planned this year?

I'm definitely getting zen when a decent matx board comes along.

In the meantime I plan to make a vrm cooler of a 2u copper cpu sink for my shitty 3 phase asrock z97m anniversity.
vrm's cucks my oc at 90c which happens at 130w cpu draw with only the small alu sinks glued on with a fan..
>>
I wanna go itx for the fractal design nano s.
I've got an i5 6600k, 1070 strix, non modular psu, an ssd and a single 2tb hdd. I know it will fit, but will it cool?
I was gonna buy an h100i if I got that case.

nope. the motors make nearly zero noise since they're maglev and they're all pwm. i have a nice fan curve set in my bios. very quite. only ramp up to jet engines when under severe load.
>>
>>58272944
I see a bunch of i7/1080 builds in it on pcpartpicker.
I'm looking to put my 6600k at 4.5ghz, and overclock my strixx.
I'm gonna leave the 120 exhaust it comes with where it is, mount the h110i in the front with a push setup, and mount the 140mm fractal fan it comes with on the bottom and tie it to the strixx fan header to turn on when the gpu needs it.

Do you use that 650 for physic?Does it even benefit you with a newer more powerful main gpu? Very nice rig tho.

The 650 is mostly for running an extra analog monitor, although it does take some load off the main GPU in certain games with PhysX. I'd go for a 1060 or 1070 but I plan on getting a 165Hz 1440p monitor.

No reason to use the other card for physx.
I've personally run extensive tests using a 980 with a 750ti as a dedicated physx card--any performance increase was negligible, if not lowered using a dedicated card.

A dedicated physx card only really works with another low-end card. Otherwise, a high-end card is well-capable of doing it's own physx without a performance hit.
>>
>>58275161
Not sure if this 780 can be really considered "high end" anymore. and either way I still need the 650 to run a second analog monitor

My life
and waiting for 1080ti, I still score better than the titan xp in all my games with these cards but I just want to get to a single card soon. I would buy the titan xp for the 5-10 fps I would lose but I don't like the fact that they aren't good overclockers and there are no good aftermarket solutions besides watercooling. That and I remember what happened with the original titan x, 980ti blew it the fuck out a few months later

Got good reviews, couldn't find anything negative about the V series when I bought it and I was on a budget. They are made by seasonic anyway. Never given me any shit and the v1000 was on sale for the price of a v750.

Other than this psu and the HAF series cases I have nothing good to say about cooler master. They're pretty much garbage in any field.

I don't see how the h115i would be better than the X62 . If anything , they are the same so it comes down to price and features ? The X62 has RGB , while the h115i has corsair link, however that depends on much anon needs a USB 2.0 port on his mobo. The RGB trend is meme tier now though , so maybe corsair link and better pricing seem to be better than paying extra 10$ for RGB. It all rests on anon though.

This is a little off-topic, so I apologize in advance. I tried asking in other threads, but I didn't get any replies.

My main upgrade is a completely new build. How much maintenance does a custom water cooling loop take? I know it is more than air cooling, but if I create a new build from scratch that utilizes a loop with both the CPU and GPU, how much work should I expect to do other than the initial set up and changing the water every five to six months?

I'm also trying to see what parts I need for it in general.

>How much maintenance does a custom water cooling loop take?

Nothing more than cleaning dust from the radiator (as you whould an air cooler) and sometimes refilling some water as over time it often evaporates and seeps out alittle. This is only if needed tho, if you get good fittings and tubes it shouldn't be a problem.

>I'm also trying to see what parts I need for it in general.

Tank/resevoir - you dont need to go big here, I like the small/medium tube ones.

Pump - read up on it, I like Laing pumps.

Radiator - 2x120mm or 2x140mm rads with 45mm thickness is enough for most highend setups with headroom for overclocking, but you could also go thinner.

Cpu/gpu waterblocks - performance differance between brands here is minimal, get something you like.

Tubing - get some flexible ones

Fittings - bitspower is very good quality, but expensive.

You could use destilled water which lessen the chance of damage your hw if you get a leak as it is non conductive.

Thats about it really.

What specific parts to get is up to you and how much money you are willing to put in it. I always buy as much as possible used.

Also, more expensive parts doesn't mean better performance, but better build quality often. But some brands are just jewing by their name too.
>>
>>58291501
>>58292433
Also I should add, the price for custom loops is not at all worth it if you don't like overclocking you hw to the limits or have autism like most on this board and have it just for display.

You can get pretty decent oc with a big air cooler for alot cheaper, or even a prebuilt 2x120/140 AIO water setup.
>>
>>58292433
>>58292717
Thank you, man. That really helps a lot.

I did plan to try out overclocking this time around since I would have the means to handle the heat from it. The new build I'm getting is for graphic design, video editing, and games on the side. The aesthetics of the loop are nice, but I want actual function from it. I'm also doing this whole thing as a learning experience, good or bad.

>Also I should add, the price for custom loops is not at all worth it if you don't like overclocking you hw to the limits or have autism like most on this board and have it just for display.

I figured that if I wanted to add a GPU block, I would have to make it custom since a lot of the AIO packages seem to only work for the CPU(?). I don't know if you can modify it any to add more to it. I think I've seen kits that allow for that though.

My quiet build. No mechanical drives, Dual Passive PSUs, 200mm fan set to only come on at CPU 50C+, GPU Fans only come on at 50C+, only fan that is constantly spinning is CPU and I am considering getting a passive heatsink as well.

Went with the Thermalshit case specifically because it has air vents on all side for more passive cooling. Actually turned out to be decent surprisingly.

Dual PSUs? What would you need those for on a desktop? So they actually make non-server cases that can take 2 PSUs, with whatever electronics are required for failover?
>>
>>58291501
It's not a lot of work. All I do with mine is add some more (distilled) water every once in a while, like twice a year. That's literally a few minutes of maintenance each year beyond the typical dusting and shit. I run a CPU-only loop though and I built it to be as unrestrictive and maintenance-free as possible.

It can be much more of a pain in the ass, depending on what you do. Adding a GPU to the loop generally requires a card-specific full cover block, so whenever you upgrade the graphics card not only do you have to upgrade the waterblock too, but you have to drain and refill your loop as well in order to change it. That's not so bad, but if you ever have to take the graphics card out to access something on the motherboard underneath it, you may also have to dismantle, drain and fill the loop again. Same goes if you need to get to another slot and it's physically inaccessible. It's much more annoying than a CPU-only loop. Also use flexible tubing, that way you can move things around. For instance I can remove every single component in my system without touching the loop, so unless I'm changing the case itself I never need to dismantle the loop.

I don't do GPU loops because they're too much of a pain since I change graphics cards way more often and it would involve purchasing new blocks all the time. My graphics cards are the only things heating up the case interior to any significant degree, that heat can be handled without much issue with air cooling.

>>
>>58293715
For me, once I have everything up and running, I was going to leave everything as it is. I don't have many plans to switch parts out or upgrade for a long time, but I do see how wanting to move something can be troublesome if not done correctly. I also found a water block for the GPU that I want, so I'm covered there too.

Thank you for the info.

>>58294578
Across the years and using different mobos, sometimes I even had to remove a graphics card to get to the SATA ports for instance, or to the battery, or the Clear CMOS jumper/button or to some other header and shit like that. If you know you will literally never touch the insides again then I guess it's fine.

I dont get it, I never found having a gpu in the loop troublesome. If you just have a little headroom on the tube lengths, its easy to pop the card out while still connected to the loop.

I do agree with you on the fullcover gpu blocks tho, they're constricted to one exact model og graphics card making upgrade expensive and a pain in the ass. This is why I only use gpu core blocks, and just aircool the vrms. Doesn't look as good, but problem solved.
>>
>>58295108
Looks good to me, your mobo is as shit tier as mine (OP), actually looks quite like mine except the z97m allows overclocking (if you make custom cooling for the vrms..
>>
>>58295186
I guess it's fine if you have a GPU-only loop, then you can indeed just remove it, but if the loop connects the CPU and GPU one after the other you'd have to remove the CPU WB as well and leave everything hanging unless you've got a very long tube between GPU and CPU. Too much of a pain for me.
>>
>>58295258
Look at my picture (OP), it does not need to be that long. Thats even in a cramped matx case.
>>
>>58295290
That honestly looks like a mess and like removing the mobo or replacing it would be annoying as fuck while keeping the loop intact.
>>
>>58295328
It does look like a mess, but the hardest part about it is the small case. If I detatch the blocks end res, its pretty pain free getting the mobo out. Now of course having the rad mounted on top nigger area style like this, I cant remove the whole loop in one piece.. But in my previous bigger case, that was no problem.

Bottom line, you just think it's harder than it really is having a gpu in the same loop. There is no stress really.
>>
>>58288493
You don't need ease of access to components. Cable management can be fun for some but ultimately worthless.
>>
>>58295499
If anything, I think its just harder access in most cases as if you switch something out to a different size component, you'll ned to rearange cable lengths and pop&redo zipties etc. Just bullshit waste of time.

But you get great guts pictures tho..

New year, same guts.

Only plans are to swap guts between Unit 01 and Unit 02 (not posting unit 02 because somebody bullied me about it looking like a McDonald's).

I may get a GTX 1080ti near the end of its life span when the Volta cards are announced. But other than that the 4790k should last me for years considering Kaby is miniscule improvements over skylake. I'll probably be on the same CPU until Coffee Lake at the soonest. Until AMD turns up the fire on Intel there's almost no incentive for me to upgrade.

6600k @4.1ghz, 8gb ddr4 @2666mhz, Rx 480 4gb. Haven't gotten around to overclocking it yet but no games I play are really GPU bottlenecking so meh.
I plan on swapping my Corsair 500r for an Nzxt S340 though. Better layout, window, smaller footprint. I need the small footprint because it's sitting on top of a filing cabinet and hanging a bit.
Should I add an LED strip when I swap case or nah?

Get a new cooler, oc that puppy. A more reliable PSU couldn't hurt. Your graphics card is sagging pretty bad, look into that. Also an SSD will decrease boot times, file write and read times, and in some games, decrease loading screens. Makes the whole system feel more responsive.

Poorfag guts, also that's the best I could do with the cables management.
I could have gone for a regular tower case but before getting enough money for this pc I worked using a Dell SFF at my office and kind of grew a thing for htpc/slimline case. It's nice to have it on the table and double as a headphone stand too.
