So Seagate is selling these "SSHD drives" ... but every one of them I can find has only 8GB NAND.
On their website, I found that they had 32GB NAND ones.

Model number: ST1000LX001
But where did they go?
Can't find a single one of these in shops.
Did the model number change, or what happened?

Too pricey, and can't replace the DVD drive in a 14" laptop.
Just want that small boost, if possible.

Buy a usb memory stick and a usb to sata converter and just use that.

Well you could just use a small 8-32gb ssd then.
But a normie will use the laptop.
If it had two slots (17"), I would just use an SSD and Intel's "Extreme HDD" stuff that does the same thing.
But then again, this is a small laptop.

I can find plenty of those here in German online shops, so no, they are not discontinued. Your model ST1000LX001 is also available.

That drive is 5400rpm though, why not save the money and go for 7200rpm?
I only replaced a HDD with an SSHD once, but the performance boost was marginal at best.

> Why not 7200
I had a 750 7200RPM HDD (Scorpio Black) in my ThinkPad, and I use a 7200RPM HDD (Toshiba) in my curent one, but they are both fucking slow for system drives.
They work fine as secondary.
> Performance gain
The 32GB had some great boosts, especially boot wise in tests.
Then again, I don't know why Seagate uses 5400RPM, it's just dumb.

Thank you, guess it might be just a Christmas shortage.

This is almost exactly the same as putting readyboost on a very good flash drive, have fun with your toy

If you have a 32GB MLC based pendrive, sure.
They're fucking ripoffs that's why. With 32gb or 64gb ssd cache would make them mildly interesting but 8gb for 1tb+ is a fucking joke.
