This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Server-side software is proprietary, the abuse reporting system is totally inefficient, most of the community in those "supergroups" is shit (literally no one cares about respecting Telegram's standards about bots, stickers and so on), I don't get why it's still claimed to be "superior" to anything. There's Signal, and if you don't care about free software there's WhatsApp, and if you don't even care about your privacy there are tons of better alternatives.
Now please, /g/, explain me.
>>
Retards think a simple alias gives them an edge. (It doesn't)

They would be using Signal except they are paranoid retards.
>>
leaving whatsapp is putting your tail between your legs
>>
Muh stickers
I like using them and I like seeing other people use mine
>>
>>58268987
why do have to remove whatsapp tho?
>>
>>58268991
Never used it in the first place
>>
>>58268965
It was the best free WhatsApp alternative when it started, bots as well started as Telegram exclusive.
I should give a shot to signal though

>literally no one cares about respecting Telegram's standards about bots, stickers and so on
What does that even mean? How's Telegram's fault?
>>
>>58268965
fuck you retard
you know nothing about messaging
>>
>oh no the nsa will know the random shit I speak about in my group chats
>>
>>58268965
Its more secure and open than whatsapp but has important features signal doesn't like easier group management and a desktop app
>>
>>58269049
>not being in a domestic terrorist
>>
>>58269058
>not using insecure messengers just to spread fake plans
Amateur spotted
>>
>>58269050
>Desktop app
Also this. Unless Signal has one too, Telegram stays superior
>>
>>58269009
>How's Telegram's fault?
It's not. But, in fact, it ruins the service

>>58269050
Signal has a nice desktop web client, anyway
>>
>>58269104
Why do you want to join shitty supergroups anyway? Lack of friends?
You aren't the target market. Telegram isn't supposed to be a random chat room
>>
>>58269119
This and...

>ever joining a supergroup
I don't even know what it's like, but if ever, it's an additional feature anyway.
>>
>>58268965
Stickers are quite nice, voice messages autoplay one after another which is a cool feature too, you can clear cache very easily, for instance I'm in a group that spams porn a lot with that feature I can erase it from the cache and not from my media gallery where I have pictures with my gf. Also the alias is pretty convenient if you don't want to give away your number.

Really, it's just a bunch simple but meaningful features, nothing out of the ordinary.
>>
>>58269119
Actually it is, if you played Ingress, to name one, you would know there are huge groups that work like an IRC channel
>>
>>58268965
Signal has a very old and annoying bug that will not be fixed: https://github.com/WhisperSystems/Signal-Android/issues/1037
It also doesn't have a proper desktop client.

Whatsapp is facebook-owned and it, too, doesn't have a desktop client for linux.

Telegram security may be a meme, but in terms of usability and features it is an undisputed king. Sadly.

for everything else there is signal

what's the best p2p software to chat with people ? Bonus point for encryption.
It must have group chat, an android version and be open source.

Is tox the only option ? Isn't it dead ?
>>
>>58269396
try retroshare senpai.
>>
>>58268965
Why do I have to switch to a new messaging app every other week. Not to say trying to get your whole chat circle migrated also.

Don't fix what aint broke
>>
>>58268965
To me the worst part is that they claim their clients are open source. Technically, they are, but:

>Android app developer had to be shamed into using version control correctly: https://github.com/DrKLO/Telegram/pull/76
>iOS app developer hasn't updated the public git repo for nearly a year

Another issue I have is that the mobile clients absolutely decimate battery life.

It would be excellent to be able move onto Riot/Matrix, which is pretty much becoming everything Telegram should have been.
