Who else here /playing the neverending waitgame/?

I waited for the new (((nexus))) line hoping that the 5 inch device would be good. Now I'm waiting for xiaomi to deliver on their chinky mi6.
>>
>>58256158
I'm waiting for a 4.3 inch device with good specs under 200€.
I have been enduring with my 4 inch shitphone for the past few years, I wouldn't have believed that manufacturers are pushing those phablets that much.
I'm tempted to just buy an used Xperia Z1 compact.
>>

If you want a customizable one should you just buy an iPhone 6S Plus and jailbreak it? All these Android phones have tons of issues with them, bootlooping or just straight up dying randomly. Not to mention lack of support, Android phones seem to get outdated VERY fast, I'm still using my iPhone 4S from 2011 and it works perfectly, whereas Android phones lose support 2 years after release and for no real reason, while the iPhones are dropped from newer iOS for a good reason (moving users to 64 bit devices)

Not all of them. Majority don't surprisingly (or not)

>bootlooping
Mainly some LG phones.

>straight up dying randomly
Which phone are you referring to here?

>Not to mention lack of support,
Most phone brands give pretty decent support. Better than apples 'support' of bloating the fuck out of older devices and then stopping support
>>
>>58256158
I've waited for over 2 years just to go from my galaxy s2 to the moto g4play. Totally worth it.
>>
>>58256158
Honestly you will never be content playing that game. Instead play the /waiting at least 4 years in between phones/ game. You'll feel a huge upgrade regardless of what phone you get and you'll be spending less money in comparison to the masses who are still signing contracts every 2 years to pay $900 for a phone.

4 years ago it took a high end $700+ device just to have a reasonable experience, and it still was laggy as fuck. Nowadays your chinkphones for $150 are providing a better experience than that. Now that's a beautiful use of waiting.
>>
>>58256841
A jailbroken iphone isn't really as customizable. The entire reason people buy iphones is so that they have something that just werks out of the box and they have constantly good support if shit goes bad. Jailbreaking ruins all of that effectively.
If you actually want to get into fully customizing your phone (and not just basic shit like changing icons or wallpapers), then Android is quite frankly the only option available right now.
>>
>>58256403
Same, but I'm about to jump ship. there will never be a decent small android phone ever again.

>>58256540
Not glass with decent speccs and not too big I guess. X compact was a contender but sony had to fuck up with glossy plastic body. Stupid design choice, the designer should be gassed.

Different Anon here

Had a note 3 since launch, was perfect. Not too long ago, the charging port died on me. I kept the phone on life support by swapping batteries / using my wall charger. That is until the microphone died, and pretty much everything else did, I suspect a motherboard issue.
Preordered a Note 7. Was a pretty good phone, not perfect but we got along. Hated the curved screen, however, because muh tempered glass screen protector. And then the recall happened.
Switched to a Moto 4G that I found in a drawer. It just werks, but it shows age.
A perfect phone to me would be a waterproof V20, with a flat screen, without bootloop (non?)issue.

Cant get a Chink Phone because my provider is picky and nothing works.
Was hoping to wait until the eventual note 8 and see, but with all the rumours about the S8, seems like it will be utter shit.

What do Anons.

Not really. It's a nice phone, but it's got an extra 100 slapped on top just because Sony still don't know they stopped being a luxury brand when they shelved Walkman, Vaio and their partnership with Ericsson. It's a glossy plastic phone. Not even Apple could convince people it's a premium item.

I picked up the international dual sim version for $500 to use in Europe and seller included an extra battery. The replaceable battery is amazing and it means the first inevitable hardware failure (lithium battery) can be solved for $40 in 2 years. The wide angle camera (front and rear) are both fun to play with. I feel guilty about paying this much for a phone since I only had a Moto G before this but so far I'm satisfied. Miss my notification LED and front-facing speakers though.

My cheap older quad-core 1GHz 0.5GB RAM phone emulates MAME, NES, SNES, Gameboy and everything else basically just fine.

Some new games are demanding and work better with a new flagship but those are rare. Your current phone/any phone let's you emulate all the old toys just fine.

Guys is my Note 4 fucked? I've rooted it some time ago and put cm13 on it. Recently I wanted to update to a nougat or marshmallow rom but, I just can't get shit to work anymore.

It lets me update and even install gapps, but as soon as the rom boots up and I'm coming into setup screen, the phone turns itself off. I've already triedto factory reset it via odin but now the phone keeps freezing every 5 seconds for a second or so. The only rom that seems to work is the cm13 rom I'm currently using. It works without any issue whatsoever.

There seems to be some people with my problem but I've yet to find a solution. Some dude suggested it might be a hardware failure but it's just so weird that cm13 is working so flawlessly.

Any idea what's going on? I have the snapdragon 805 Note 4.
>>
>>58257631
Kind of, you are basically getting a Redmi Note 3 Pro with a way worse battery (4050 mAh vs 2700 mAh), smaller and worse resolution (5.5" 1080p vs 4.6" 720p) but with a MUCH better camera and design, besides that theyre even on specs (3 GB RAM, 32 ROM, same features, Xperia UI isnt as shit as MIUI though), however the RN3P costs 140 dollars tops and the Xperia XC was 299 dollars a few weeks ago on some stores but its usually 400+.

A solid purchase if you indeed got it for 300, otherwise you were just 50 dollars away from the HTC10.

Hell, my old ass tyrone-repellent 4" alcatel pop c5 with a shitty CM12.1 port where the flashlight, camera, FM radio, mobile data and themes didnt work emulated PS1, PSP and NDS games just fine with custom settings (no quality downgrades just speed hacks for PSP and fast forward buttons for NDS and PS1, vanilla pokemon and FF tactics are slow as fuck) and that shit had 512 MB of ram with a mediakek processor, the only problem was that its small 1300 mAh battery died in 2 hours and you had to be plugged to an outlet 100% of the time if you wanted to emulate on it, your SD510 with 3 GB of ram should be more than enough for it, even if it seems outdated by todays standards.

Yes since there is no official CM for the original Redmi Note 3 (mediatek, 2 gb ram), the rom works on the LTE prime model as well so get to downloading the latest stable of CM13 and nightly of CM14.1 before the website dies.

There are a few good things to look for in a phone case. Make sure the case has a lip that comes past the screen, so the impact goes into the case and not into the screen. Don't buy a case that is simply a thin plastic shell; durable cases will have a harder exterior with a softer interior, but cases that are just tpu work ok too. Some cases have covers over the ports, and you may or may not like this. Some cases come with a cheesy plastic screen protector built in. I usually remove this by prying it out with a knife. Also make sure to check Amazon reviews for the case you are going to buy. If there are glaring issues with a case, such as the cutouts being off, these will tell you.
Cases that give a good mix of comfort (slimness) and durability are trident, diztronics, and urban armor.
The pickings are pretty thin for a lot of chinkphones. Spiegen makes a nice lookingcarbon fiber accent case which protects the phone decently, is cheap, and is made of a good tpu. This is available for a lot of lesser known phones, such as the axon 7, honor 8, and OP3.

Choose between the S7E or HTC10, everything else is lacking something crucial, has horrid battery/SoT, tons of hardware issues, shitty stock rom or is just straight up not worth buying.

If S7E order the exynos version, better third party support after samsung forgets about it to focus on the DOA S8/S8E and NOTE.

What the HTC10 has over the S7E is basically better audio, root/unlock friendly, sturdy build, more accurate colors and being just the right size for one handed use if youre not a manlet, theyre even in everything else, shame HTC dropped the IR blaster on this otherwise it would be outright superior.

>>58266255
thank you, axon 7 is out of the question now
>>
>>58265481
Reasons to get the axon
-much cheaper
-much better audio
-higher resolution screen
-higher resolution camera (better for zooming in and extreme details)
-quick charge 3.0 (quicker and also industry standard, dash charge charger is expensive and only works on OP phones)
-USB 3.0
-better availability
-MicroSD slot up to 256gb

Reason to get the OP3T
-slightly better processor
-better fingerprint scanner
-slightly better battery, somewhat offset by axon battery management software
-better overall camera (axon isn't great in low light and for point and shoot)
-higher fps in games because of 1080p screen
-better ROM community (unlocked bootloader)

Subjective things
-the OS (more on this later)
-design and colors
-fingerprint scanner location

The battery killing software bug has been fixed. I don't use Android pay so I don't know about that. I do know the axon 7 is getting the nouget update soon. The axon 7 had a couple bugs on launch, but the devs have been responsive and fixed most of the bugs.

What's /g/'s opinion on the Redmi Note 3 Pro 2 GB edition? I saw one for $116 at fastcardtech. I'm deep in debt at the moment so I need a good phone for as cheap as possible. I don't do much cpu wise except chrome casting movies so I need a 1080p. Alternative is Mi4C 3Gb which is $115 at fastcardtech.

Fastcardtech is pretty cheap, dunno why it's not being shilled hard.

I don't understand people recommending the honor 8. Yeah it's a good price for the specs, but EMUI is dogshit and there isn't a very big modding community.

I have this guy on steam who i play co-op games with that bought the Axon 7 on release day and has never experienced any of this, was it a software bug only or did he get lucky? OP3T its overall superior but i wanted the AX7 for my dad, oh well.

Budget's a bit tight due to being a poor college fag.

I also don't do anything intense on my phone, most demanding things being video playback and maybe some emulation. Anything as good as SD801 or better is good enough.

I have been out of the smartphone game since I bought my Nexus 5 on launch.
The phone is starting to go to shit, so I've been looking for something new.
My Brother has a OnePlus 1, which I really like. I looked at the OnePlus X, but it'd be nice to have something more modern. I've heard the OP2 is shit, so should I go for the OP3?
I'd like something similar to my N5, but it has to get good reception. Do they work well in Australia (Telstra)? Anything else I should look at in that price range? ~$500AUD.

tl;dr
OP3 for a Nexus 5 replacement?
>>
>>58267241
>>58267251
Once they remove that home button and iOS I would be willing to use the word 'good' in the same sentence as it
>>
>>58266878
I think it was a bit of both. Not everyone was reporting those issues before, and there was just an update which fixed a lot of stuff.

The OP3T is superior but hard to get and thus expensive ($150 more than the axon 7) right now. When it drops down to $430 it would be the better buy for most people, unless you really care about multimedia. The OP3 is like that now. I'd still go with the axon 7 over the OP3, but if you are really into custom roms you would get the OP3.

>>58267216
Why wouldn't you get the moto G4? It can be had for $150 for the lockscreen cancer version.

>>58267405
OP3T will drop down to $439. If you aren't interested, I'd just buy the OP3 now as it's about to be out of production.

Looking for a budget phone right now since my M7 seems to be dying a bit, looking at the Moto G4 Plus right now, it really hits that sweetspot of specs and price.

There any other comparable options? The Honor 5X was like a 100 bucks cheaper, but it seems to be a good deal inferior, and my budget isn't THAT low.
>>
>>58268041
The regular G4 I think is even better for your dollar unless you really like fingerprint readers.
G4 play is a great deal too for budget, especially if you don't care about lockscreen cancer from amazon.
>>
>>58268065
Huh, I thought I read the Plus had a slightly better CPU, but the only difference I see is the camera, fingerprint scanner and I could pay an extra 100 bucks for 4gb of ram vs 2gb.

Guess I'll go with the normal version, thanks!
>>
I've been eyeing the OnePlus 3T since it was announced, and it looks like everything I want in a smartphone.

However I want the 128gb version and it's been constantly out of stock for the last three weeks, and I won't have the money for it for at least a month, two at the latest.

Should I buy it as soon as I can afford it or should I save a bit more and get the 4 when it comes out presumably in 5 months?

My dad has the Moto g4 and it's a solid phone so long as you don't plan on playing games. I couldn't run Hearthstone on it but everything else is fine and relatively lag free in everyday use. 2 gigs will do you fine but I do hope you went with 32 gigs of internal storage. I'm not getting the G4+ because every time I post, people disregard the budget and suggest it though that thing starts at $250.
I was considering a G4 play for its battery life, but seeing how meh both the play and the regular are compared to years prior's flagships and midrangers that have now fallen into the same price bracket make it not too tempting compared to other things out there.

I wasn't quite sure if this was the right board and I didn't want to chance a new thread so I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me.

I learned a while ago that the Samsung Galaxy watch had a feature that allowed you to change the face background whenever you felt like. Unfortunately it's expensive as shit, has icons all over the screen and has all the features of a phone yet still requires you to use a phone to actually access the one feature I want.

Are there any cheaper watches with this feature that don't require a phone and I could maybe instead use my computer for? I don't need all the bells and whistles; as long as it tells time and has changeable background I'm happy.

After first hearing about the whole LG bootloop issue in /spg/ threads, I'm really confused about why people didn't start underclocking their CPU once the issue started popping up.

>>
>>58271869
Definitely. I mean all the fanboys were touting it as the android iphone, but a large reason why people go to iphones (outside of delusional brand idiots) is because of the longterm support. In 2011 Google made a big deal of phones getting 18 months support, and 5 years later their premium 'iphone competitor' is only getting 24 months? That's pretty abysmal, and they have no rational excuse other than wanting people to upgrade to a new device at that time anyways.

I only ever buy a phone every 3-4 years, so I like to have a flagship or close to it, but I'm not sure if that even works anymore.
>>
>>58271987
I don't mean you should play the constant waiting game. That's a losing game. What I mean is that this is definitely a time where waiting for the follow up is mandatory to see where Google actually goes with it. Especially because Google is so fucking schizo you never know if they're going to kill a line to introduce another just because. Or maybe they'll come back with Nexus devices as some sort of alternating thing. Who knows.
Also I just generally hate the design they went with. Too much wasted space, having a glass panel where you'll be putting your finger = fingerprint mess, and they should have come out with more colors because that Blue was insanely good but unavailable.

Anyways, wait for the follow up, see what they come up with. These days any flagship (excluding those with obvious huge issues like bootloops or clear downgrades from previous flagships) will last you for at least 2 years, longer if community support exists.

Emulation can be done well in most devices. You will only run into problems with DS and PSP emulation, which you'll probably need a good flagship for.
General gaming itself is fine. If you don't like usual F2P shit, you can always try the indie stuff. Binding of Isaac is coming for iOS soon, as well as NEO Scavenger.

I was going to get the LG G5 then heard about boot looping and also realized the GearVR is a thing. So looking into getting an S7, but with the rumours of a 4K screen on the S8 I'm wondering if I should wait a few months. What do you guys think? Also is the Edge variant worth it at all?
>>
What can we expect in terms of smartphones from the coming CES?
>>
>>58274008
Snapdragon 835 on chinese phones. New Samsung, Sony and LG phones on MWC. HTC's next should be soon after CES.
Although I heard LG could announce the G6 right after CES (it will use the same modules as the G5, but will have an auxiliary battery so that you won't need to turn the phone off to change it, plus Quantum Dot display and a quad DAC). HTC will announce two phones (a medium one and a phablet), but neither will be called 11.

so maybe xiaomi announces something new
I'll wait a bit longer before buying a new phone then. Thanks.

I'm on the same plan and it's pretty much perfect. I've never come close to hitting the 5GB throttle limit because of Binge On, but then again I don't torrent my anime on the go.

100 minutes of talk time can be an issue but that's what google voice is for.

5X bootlooped and nothing looks good to me, so I think I'm just going to get a G4 Play to tide me over until some new phones come out.

I've always used upper midrange to flagship devices, but I don't really play games or do anything besides messaging, internet browsing, and watching videos on my phone. Is going down to a lesser SOC really going to have much of a noticeable impact for usage like mine?
>>
>>58262625
The phone is good, just watch out for known Android minor issues. Though I suppose it is 6.0 or newer so it should be OK.

for 2.2GHz Quadcore, 2GB RAM, very good camera, SD card slot, notification led, small screen with HD resolution and good looks, 120€

The camera is so-so but the size and overall capacity are nice even for today. I bought mine in 2014 and love it. Make sure you don't tear waterproof caps (though they can be replaced).
>>
>>58256403
Had the z3 compact for a while. It's so fragile. Busted both the back and front glass in one month. Hasn't happened to me a single time on any other smartphone. Gave up on it.

There just isn't a good small Android phone.
>>
>>58274879
I'm fine with a so-so camera, I have a very shitty one on my current phone, and it's bearable. So if it takes better pictures than that, it's good to me.
The waterproof caps are still intact, I'll try to be careful with them, thanks for the tip.
Should I try to get along with the stock Android or flash something else as soon as I get it?

>>58274902
I hope that doesn't happen to me and it lasts me for some time.

I upgraded from Android 4.4.4 (stock) to Android 5.0 once (official update) and regretted it as soon as it was installed. Battery life decreased almost twice as much and the worst was that Android 5 backup made by stock Sony app is incompatible with Android 4.4.4 (I suppose this applies to all Android 5 backups) so when I revrted back to 4.4.4 I had to manually reinstall all my apps. Sony has published Android 5.1 since but I have no intention to upgrade to it; besides, I prefer Sony 4.4.4 design and pretty icons to Sony 5 generic Android icons and style (imho of course).
Of course, it is up to you, but I would rather stay on 4.4.4 in terms of overall stability. Thus said, I quite enjoyed camera app on 5.0, its HDR and software processing quality seem better than 4.4.4 version.
>>
>>58274954
Yeah, and in terms of phone fragility, look up this Chinese case, it costs around 10 USD and is pretty sturdy. I have Otterbox on my older Motorola Defy and this case is similar, though rubber is a bit more rigid. Still, it offers a good protection against everyday drops.
>>
>>58275128
Have you tried custom roms?
I think I'll try around a bit with the stock Android when I get the phone (I actually don't exactly know what version is installed, but I think it's 4.4.4)
Is it easy to switch between the official versions (like 4.4.4, 5.0 and 5.1?)
And thanks for your answer

>>58275185
I'll keep that one in mind, although I don't like phone cases

What's the best mail app for android? I have tried multiple but most of them seem to suck. So far the best app is Bluemail but it turned out be a complete battery hog. The main features that i'm looking for is multiple account support and unified inbox.

>>
>>58275568
I liked it but it doesn't support Gmail.
>>
>>58275606
really?
I think I used it with my gmail account, until I deleted my account
>>
>>58275629
I meant to say that Gmail doesn't support K9 mail. So you need to allow "less secure apps" or whatever for it to work but i'm not really sure about doing that.
>>
>>58275606
It supported gmail for me until a while ago I think. Now I get an error when trying to access my google mail account. No idea why.
>>
>>58275271
No, I have not yet tried them, but probably will, though at the moment I am quite satisfied with stock 4.4.4. I know that Z1C in particular has some minor issues with rooting and unlocking bootloader (though I heard about Kingoroot but have not tried it yet) but it is possible to flash it with custom firmware.
Switching to 5.0 or 5.1 is easy and is made via stock update app. Switching back is more difficult and required firmware reflashing as the system does not support official downgrade. The reflashing itself is quick but make sure you make full backup of 4.4.4, because if you upgrade to 5.x, backup it and try to downgrade to 4.4.4 the backup of 5.x will not work. I lost some Google Keep notes because of this though managed to reinstall all apps.
As for the case, I am not a big fan of them myself, the reason I bought one is that I intended to use the phone during trips to lands with harsh conditions (winter/sand/rain etc) and I read that backside of the phone is rather fragile so I decided not to push my luck. Nowadays they sell hard plastic screen and back protectors aka 9H glass, it offers some breakproof protection for everyday use.
>>
>>58275306
It is true and we all should make some research before buying. Sadly, not all Chinese phones are reviewed properly.
>>
>>58275825
Okay
I have been reading about the roms and unlocking/rooting the phone for the past hour. And right now I think, I will just try to use the stock ones first, and root them if I feel the need to. I also read that the new official firmwares are okay again regarding power consumption
>The reflashing itself is quick but make sure you make full backup of 4.4.4, because if you upgrade to 5.x, backup it and try to downgrade to 4.4.4 the backup of 5.x will not work.
with full backup of 4.4.4 you mean one in the recovery?
If I'm just messing around with the official versions though, just for trying them out in the first days I get the phone, I wouldn't need it, right?
I'm asking because if I understand correctly I'd have to root the official 4.4.4 first to make the backup, before I go to official 5.1 to try that one out.
sorry if my post doesn't make much sense, I'm a bit tired
>>
>>58275425

>>
>>58275546
The old email app was great but they killed it. I don't know if there's still an AOSP version out there somewhere, check apkmirror
>>
>>58276090
No, the stock one, in 4.4.4 it's located in Tools->back up and restore. Not custom recovery mode as I don't have it and my phone is unrooted at the moment.
Yes, if you don't have any important info on the phone at the moment you probably don't need a backup yet.
For backup made by stock app (i.e. files, apps and app info) you don't need root. By backup in my prev. posts I didn't mean backup via recovery mode (CWM etc), just stock "regular" backup. I mean, if you will use 4.4.4 for some time and then decide to switch to other version just make a backup, either via stock method or via recovery mode, as you wish, just not to lose some app info that you may have , like Google Keep notes or Walkman settings.
Good luck.

Any advice on how to maximize memory on my Galaxy s7?

I recently picked up the AT&T version and, as per the usual, it came preloaded with a lot of software. Should I jailbreak?

You root an android not jailbreak it, AT&T afaik doesn't have a root method so far. You could try disabling them by hand in the settings menu

Thanks for the correction. I've already disabled them in the menu, but I still think they're taking up almost 40-50 percent of my phone's memory
