Why are flash drives so cheap even if they offer lots of memory. 64 gb flash drive is a lot cheaper than 64 Gb had. Is it just because of the speed?

Do you mean hdd? I would assume the production cost of a small plastic device is cheaper than a big spinny disk in a metallic enclosure. Microtransistors are crazy fucking cheap now.

Idk. Got a 256GB USB 3.0 for ~$30 about 4 months ago. I mean, yeah flash drives have gotten cheaper over time from what they used to be, but 4 times that to get 1TB costs more than a 1TB HDD.

Make sure to include a reply

My theory would be because there's a higher production then meets the demand for the product.

Are you sure you're looking at right products? There are shitloads of fake flash drives on Ebay that do not work at the capacity they're advertised for. Some of them are even advertised using reputable brands.

>>58254097
Also this. The drive enclosure and the mechanical parts that make disks spin are not cheap to manufacture.

I meant 2.0. I mean I understand that it's prices lowered because of 3.0 releasing but they're really cheap in some places compared to Hdd's and 2.0 isn't even bad. The production materials a see would make sense though.
>>
>>58254078
they're much easier to mass produce than hdd's, the part count is lower, too, assembly doesn't even need a cleanroom
>>
SSDs have a real fancy drive controller

USB sticks don't.
>>
>>58254078
The flash memory used in these drives doesn't have to tolerate the number of read/write cycles a typical SSD would. Also, the speed is shit compared to other flash memory.
>>
>>58254352

Would the same reasoning apply to flash drives vs hdd too?
>>
>>58254251
Hahaha
>>
>>58254661
HDDs are an entirely different technology, and generally offer a much better storage to price ratio. They also can constantly read+write; their lifespan is measured not by read/writes, but by hours of operation.
