hey there. first time on this board.
i'm trying to purposely fuck up some old tvs/screens (not LCDs but CRTs) for artistic purposes. what are some ways to do so? and (if it's possible) how can i "control" how much i fuck them up?

You can't possibly be serious.
There are no lens in a CRT, and the crystal is mostly opaque.

Open the back, play with the various pots. Be very careful of the flyback transformer or any high current stuff.
You can try to apply magnets around the case too.
