Just get the intex aquafish and flash stock sailfish(check the ask jolla forum, instructions on there) It is almost exactly the same as the Jolla C. Too bad no LTE in the states.

There are companies that will collect data, another company will filter it, another will categorise it into types of people, this categorised list of ip/mac adresses, cookie history and whatever other info you gave the original company is then sold to ad agencys and governments. The ad agencys don't really give all too many fucks if the data is perfect, as long as their customers (businesses) think it is. Governments also buy data, but currently don't do jack shit with it, because it isn't very reliable (yet), and they can't use much in a legal sense.
The original company that collects shit cares about the masses, and doesn't care if a few thousand neckbeards slip through the system (cause most people don't give a shit). So if you would rather not get logged and categorised, then you can cut yourself off, even without an air gap.
You wish your gov. was powerful enough to do mr robot style hacking to everyone, but really its a bunch of people doing shit, only to the extent of maintaning the confidence of the people around them (aka a con game).
