Hey guys, just got this unicomp earlier today. Noticed the L key was acting weird so I took the keycap off. I saw the spring wasn't in the center like the rest, is there anything I can do here or am I screwed?

Great keyboard otherwise.

Probably not.
Make sure the spring sits in the keycap like the other ones do.
There's supposed to be a specific part of the keycap that comes in contact with the spring. Make sure the spring under the L keycap sits like the springs under the other keycaps do.
>>
Is Leopold FC660C a good Topre? Can I get aftermarket 55g rubber sheets for it?

I have a Unicomp classic and a Rosewill 92000k or whatever it's called.

Both good. I've also owned a K70 which I liked.

Anyone ever try black switches?

>>58237766
Just tried what you said, it works for about 30-40 presses and then the key gets quieter and won't register every so often. Did you mean probably not able to do anything? Or probably not screwed?

using black switches right now. they're pretty good.

i can kind of see why people call them a heavier red switch, because they're both linear, but having used both reds and blacks the difference in weight honestly puts both of them in completely different categories. i don't mistype nearly as often on blacks as i do with reds, and since i'm not really a fan of the clicky switches, this is pretty much perfect for me.
>>
>>58237715

Hey guys, me again. Played around with the keys a little more and I think I fixed it. I just switched the little key cover underneath the keycaps so the cover under the L was moved to the K and vice versa.

>Can I get aftermarket 55g rubber sheets for it?
There are no aftermarket sheets for any Topre.
You would have to buy another Topre board, a "doner" board, and take the domes from that.
It's a Leopold, so it's *probably* a good board kek. Elitekeyboards used to carry it but they stopped.
A shame, that board was really popular and still might be hard to find.

Alright, get ready to read my blog.

I am typing from my new mechanical keyboard, purchased from Amazon. (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DBYNVSY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have seen this with another name in the US, but being from chinkland, doesn't surprise me they rebranded or got chinked by another chink brand.

Anyway, it is awesome to type in. My first mechanical was a Steelseries M800. It died and got a refund. Fell back to a non mechanical and it just tired me the fuck out.

Anyway, just wanted to tell you this feels like a premium kyboard to me. I also love that I can finally get custom keys!
>>
>>58238326
maybe because remembering a few keys isn't hard or because he uses a non retarded layout?
>>
>>58239675
can anyone recommend a keyboard under 35 dollars with tactile or clicky cherry MXs?

I'm looking at getting the one that anon has here >>58239591 but I want more options if his broke easily
>>
>>58239732
forgot to mention i should probably get tenkeyless or smaller. I've got a separate numpad
>>
>>58239675
Staggered QWERTY layout is pretty retarded though Tbh.
>>
>>58239732
literally the one that anon posted, nothing is cheaper except maybe the g84-4100 or some used one.
>>
>>58239759
exactly why one would use blanks, i got them to switch to malt.
>>
>>58239732
Mine did not break easily, the M800 from Steelseries did. This feels heavy and like I could take it to a warzone.

As a sidenote, I contacted Steelseries to challenge them on their ability to beat this cheap as fuck keyboard and they said they will send me a keyboard to compare, no strings attached.

I will make a jewtube vid when it's here.
>>
>>58239732
ajazz ak33 from aliexpress
>>
can anyone recommend a good stie for keycaps in the UK?
>>
So i ordered a set of cherry MX switch testers, to find a switch i like before i go out and buy a keyboard. I have only tried my friends cherry reds and i didn't like the feel of them

Anyway, my question is. Does anyone have experience with the company WASD Keyboards. I was looking for sellers of keyboards and they allowed for any switch type and were very minimalist in their design (baring the exception if you customize it) which i like.

So is it worth the money buying from them, are they good quality like their site says or should i look elsewhere?

>>
>>58240112
I own a blue mx 87tkl from WASD. currently three years old. cant really complain for 120 dollars or so. I am waiting that this piece of shit finally dies so I can buy something nicer but it aint happening i am afraid.
>>
>>58240554
I know, i checked the site and is why i asked about them hoping for more info about them. A bit more info about their goods would be nice you know though, not just "it's in the links in the OP"
>>
>>58240592
It's good.
>>
>>58239591
I ordered this yesterday and it's coming tomorrow. Will be my first mechanical keyboard. I needed a keyboard without a numpad since I recently got a giant mouse pad and my arms are too far spread apart. Might as well go mechanical at that price, I figured.

It's mostly for gaming. Supposedly reds are the hardcore gaymer switches, but fuck it. I wanted a nice keyboard for $35 and I'm a sucker for anything tactile. Wold probably like them more than reds anyway.

Got some sweet loot. Vortex PBT + POM shine through KCs. Got 'em for 69 SGD sheckels and ready to go home for muh Ducky RGB
>>
Just got a steelseries m800 because low profile, low travel distance and low force curve.

Best mech keyboard I've owned so far because of those three things combined. Typing feel is so much better than the cherry greens I had, and low travel distance makes them feel more responsive than normal reds for csgo.

Made a christmas profile, a rainbow wave profile, a white rain profile and my standard is a bright orange, so I've already fallen in love with the RGB.

Great board, can recommend.

Probably going to kill the snake in the process though...

hey look what just arrived! first mech too! finally retiring the old g110 after years of service which replaced my old g11, its kinda bitter sweet, but now i finally understand the feeling of a mech keybaord is soooo light! also gateron browns. I'm pleased i didnt cave in to buy corsair's k65/k70 over black friday!

couple questions, i'm not particularly fond of the key caps, mainly the printing, and there seems to be a nice set in mass drop right now https://www.massdrop.com/buy/tai-hao-double-shot-abs-shine-keycap-set only thing is they are white, how are white key caps with white light? and would these key caps even be compatible with gateron browns?

and also, auto-hotkey works good if the keyboard isn't 're-programmable" right
>>

Fast touch typers please tell me:
do you return your finger to the homerow when typing a character.
For example: when typing "you", do you return the finger each time you type a letter?
Naturally I have learned to often skip the home row, but I often get lost and make errors.
>>
>>58244168
Yeah, that should work. Alternatively you can probably even just leave them off in bright lights if you want, since the caps you linked also look similar to mine when there's no backlight, as in, they're still readable because the legends aren't white like the rest of the keycap, but look grey-ish because they're transparent. Still, I don't think you're going to have any issues with the backlight not being visible.

Have you guys run into a problem with newer keyboards not being recognized by your BIOS or OS on reboot? I just bought my first mechanical (Rosewill RK-9000V2 with Cherry Browns) and every time I reboot I have to unplug and replug for the keyboard to be recognized. Strangely, this problem occurs with both PS2 and USB connections. I was always taught that PS2 peripherals weren't hot swappable, and that they wouldn't be recognized until you did a reboot. Here, the problem is the opposite. I've Googled a lot and haven't found anyone who also has this specific problem.

Anyone run into this?
>>
>>58245812
i believe it might have something to do with the polling rate? if it's too fast bios wont recognize it or something. its the reason the k70 has a switch for "bios" at least thats what linus techmemes said on their review?
>>
>>58245942
Hmm, interesting. As far as I know or can tell this keyboard doesn't have any external switches like that, and it's not mentioned in the short manual. I might just give their CS a call and see what they say.
>>
>>58245979
it might be a function key, it doesnt ahve to be a physical switch, mine has 3 settings as fn key 20c/s 40c/s 60c/s though i cant confirm for sure if that's indeed the problem (i havent tried going to the bios myself) it's worth checking out if you are able to change the polling rate of your kb

Starting to get used to my new 60% "RGB" keyboard. If you do want to get it (E-element Z77) then bear in mind that the switches are a lot louder and hollower sounding than normal cherry blues. I always bottom out the keys but without bottoming out, the click is noticeably louder than normal cherrys. The backlighting will also get dimmer as the number of leds being lit in a row increases, but all in all it stays very bright. Comparing it to the das 4, it's a lot clunkier and a little heavier to type on.

how are MX clears compared to brown and red? Worth it for gaming and casual typing? I'd like my keys to have some weight to them but without requiring retarded amounts of pressure. I'd like them to feel "expensive" if that makes sense.
>>
>>58247906
Much more noticeable bump, definitely heavier. The spring ramps up quicker than other MX springs. So while the actuation force is ~55g (right after the bump), the bottom out force is ~90g. Helps to not bottom out the switches, might be tiring if you hold down a key for a long while or have girly fingers.

I have a model M with a SDL cable, and a PS2 adapter. My new PC doesn't have a PS2 port because I am a retard.

Should I go out and buy a PS2 to USB adapter for $3? Would this even work, going from SDL to PS2 to USB? Would there be any noticeable input lag, if it works?

I could buy a SDL to USB cable off ebay, but those are fucking expensive, and I might as well just buy an entirely different keyboard at that point.

Speaking of gayming, I didn't make a mistake by ordering blue switches, right? I just like the idea of something very loud and tactile over the smooth red ones. I imagine if I need to mash a key quickly it won't be any harder than on a membrane.

The only time I've regretted buying blues is while playing rhythm games, but these are games where you need unnecessary amounts of keypresses per second, so reds win out because they're lighter, and because of the fact that you can "vibrate" around the actuation point (activation point?) with them.
The release point is above the actuation point on blues, making double-tapping harder than with linear switches.
But for general gaming, blues are usually fine. Pretty nice for typing, too.

>>58250716
what keyboards do you own, out of curiosity?
I mean, features =! cost. So I don't see what you're getting at other than "I'd like MY keyboards to have LEDs", because all you have done is given me an opinion.
Filco's keycaps aren't the best, but I'm very picky for keycaps. Ducky's aren't universally better either, reminder: they sell keycaps with different materials too and by extension you're going to get very varied results, some of the keycaps I've seen flaunted are often just on par with the filco stock caps though, often a bit more colourful so people are slower to judge.
I'll have to disagree on the build-quality statement, too, I don't own a ducky board anymore but from the time I spent with one I can't exactly say I was impressed.
>>
>>58250864
I have a majestouch yellow edition, shine 3 and shine 5

i don't like the shine 5, but the shine 3 is incredibly well built. it feels like a tank

i wasn't bashing filco really, i like their boards, but you simply get more 'stuff' with similarly priced boards so i don't see the point in them
>>
How hard is it to go from fullsize/tkl to 60%?
>>
>>58250473
Where can I get a keyboard with a Greek button
>>
>>58250898
Yeah, I mean, fair enough, it's just I find it difficult to argue in favour of 'more stuff' meaning that it has to be better; I can't imagine any professors in their fifties sitting down and doing work on a TKL ducky shine with a miami keyset theme, you know? I think Filco boards are just really safe options to offer up to people who you don't know much about, plus they're great for expanding into more kb-hobbyist stuff later since you have such a reliable base from which to work.
Interesting to hear about the quality difference, given that you own both, what is it that's different between them?
Oh and by yellow edition, do you mean the black case with yellow caps or have you picked up one with a yellow casing, because I couldn't comment on those since I have no idea how they compare to the standard boards or if they're any different at all.
>>
>>58250994

>>
>>58251042
the majestouch 2 and shine 3 both feel about equal in build quality, but the shine 3 has lighting so. afaik there's no quality difference between the color variants but it's the yellow case with blank yellow caps. i do agree that filco's don't look gaudy unless you make them look gaudy but the similar could be said about any ducky board that isn't the shine 5/6 (the 6 being particularly hideous), if you turn the lighting off they look very subdued

>>58251078
don't let me sway you entirely, i'm not a huge keyboard enthusiast i just like typing and it's a fun little hobby. 60% boards can be very aesthetic looking i guess is the word, but i like functionality too and idk. i guess if you're just typing on it it's fine, but doing that on a full or TKL is the same experience

are you limited in space or do you value portability? those are better questions

>>
>>58251541
smaller keyboards are more ergonomic, not having the numpad means you can have your arms in a more comfortable position.

I know it sounds like a meme, but once you try a TKL or another small keyboard going back is uncomfortable.
>>
>>58251541
I'm using a full keyboard right now and it's fucking horrible after I bought my huge mousepad. I'm typing this as I stare at my monitor but my arms are awkwardly off to the left and then my wrists are bending back to the keyboard. I use my numpad, but only because it's there. Got one without a numpad coming tomorrow.

I could have got one of those mats that's the mouse pad and a pad for under the keyboard, but I also like to have a low sensitivity for vidya so I want that space anyway.

when you are sitting down you have one hand on the mouse and one hand on the keyboard, if you have a a longer keyboard then your hand is more to the left. With a small keyboard your hands are literally both in front of you without a weird angle

it sounds insignificant but from my experience its much more comfortable. Recently sold my TKL keyboard, and while I'm waiting to get a replacement TKL im using a full keyboard and it's not as comfortable.

It's one of those things that once you use a small keyboard, going back is weird, but if you're used to a full sized it doesn't really matter. I used to think it was stupid and it didn't make a difference, until I got a smaller keyboard and I can't go back.

After pondering a few days over which mechanical keyboards to get, I have finally decided on the Logitech G610 because it's on sale here and it has actual MX blue switches.

Should I do it?
>>
>>58252611
If you can deal with non-standard everything, sure.
>>
>>58252209
By the time you're focusing on the time it takes to get from the mouse to the keyboard it's not even worth it anymore.
>>
>>58252642

>non-standard everything

What do you mean??
>>
>>58252719
you cant get custom key caps or custom anything
>>
>>58252806

Oh, er the plan is to just use it until it dies, don't really care for custom anything. Should I be fine that way?
>>
>>58244342
I think you might have a problem with the amount of guns, but everything else you said made perfect sense.
>>
>>58252876
yeah def man but part of getting a mech kb is customizing!
>>
>>58252930

Yeah but I'm honestly just getting a mechanical, my first mechanical ever, just for the clicky typey feeling. Feels good man. I have a Logitech g402 mouse too so I was thinking they would naturally match I guess?
>>
>>58252978
Do you really need cherry switches. Why not go for gaterons, or if you absolutly must have cherry then just buy a g80 cash register for 30 bucks.
>>
>>58253008

No man it's just that the other keyboards don't really sell here ( I'm in Singapore ) and if I were to buy from Amazon basically I'm fucked for warranty. So yeah I don't have a lot of choices.
>>
>>58253032
what about qisan keyboards?
>>
>>58253032
You guys have the biggest Ducky, Leopold, Coolermaster distributer and yet you cant find one of their cheap keyboards?
Just google Ducky channel partners, or get some chink board like Royale kludge or magiforce
>>
>>58253120

There are, but the price difference is marginal. The reason why I wanted the g610 is because I really like the feel of MX blue I guess.

>>58253110
It's too overpriced here.
>>
>>58238521
>no dipswitch to swap ctrl and caps
Into the trash it goes. I don't want to use software, I want it to just plugin and work properly everywhere.

>buying corsair gaymen keyboards
should have got a ducky if you were about the LEDs - nice looking RGB keyboards without the gaymen font. not hating on gamers but the font triggers me.

I just got a Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire and the caps are kinda ugly, what are some nice caps that would suit it? Also sorry for gaymen related

Thinking of getting a Ducky One TKL RGB after three years with my Ducky Shine 3. Really happy with the latter but I'm looking to move to something more ergonomically friendly. What does /mkg/ think?
>>
>>58253518
Would also love to hear others thoughts on this been considering one for awhile. Someone said earlier that next years model will have software support or something so maybe i should wait for that
>>
>>58253461
Obviously not as nice as a Ducky in terms of a RGB keyboard but if it wasn't for gaymen font, these would actually be nice keyboards.I'd just go for some black/grey keycaps with some coloured keycaps as accents here and there.
>>
>>58253539
It's being confirmed for the upcoming Shine 6 on Ducky's Facebook group but they haven't answered questions about whether older keyboards like the One RGB or Shine 5 will be supported. Here's hoping...
>>
>>58253518
I got an MK Disco recently which is essentially the same thing and it's great. the switches aren't cherry but they feel super smooth, i was surprised
>>
>>58253572
>MK Disco
Forgot to mention, I'm a britcuck so I'm after a UK layout. CCL computers said they were expecting stock in January or Februrary.
>>
>>58253591
Ah, not sure about that then

Basically any Ducky board that isn't the Shine 6(because it's ugly as shit) is good

shine 3 was their peak IMO, it feels like it weighs over 5 pounds and it creates a great key sound
>>
>>58240773
Did you get it from SLS?
>>
>>58253611
Couldn't be happier with the Shine 3 if mine was TKL desu. Wish I bought the TKL version (I believe there was one) in hindsight.

Turbo X-Wing KB-3001.jpg
436KB, 1920x1080px
I found this Turbo X-wing KB-3001 Elements mechanical keyboard at a thrift store for $5 so I just snagged it up hoping it would work because it feels amazing.

Unfortunately I have plugged the PS/2 cable into my motherboard and it doesn't pick up any signal at all. Do you guys think there is anything I can try to salvage it? I would love to make it work, if not I would love to try to revive it somehow, I love the feel and colour so much.

Any ideas?
>>
>>58253611
wtf were they thinking with the Shine 6? at least we still have the One RGB series, which is pretty much a continuation of the Shine 2/3 at this point.
>>
>>58253769
Yeah, it's great. MK Disco is probably what you want, it's a shine 3 TKL with a better PCB and lighting similar to the shine 5. it has cherry clone switches but they feel good, the browns feel closer to ergo clears than they do mx browns

>>58253803
i have no clue. they never made gaudy boards, the shine 5 was kinda pushing it but it's not too bad.

shine 6 is just totally ugly, not a good design at all. ducky is all about good build quality with ricer lighting but without ricer aesthetics and they ruined it with that stupid blue case design and weird legends
>>
>>58253819
I thought the regular version with a black casing would also be released? If so, I don't know why they'd releasing the ugly as fuck blue one first though. What I also don't get is why we're seeing the white casing Ducky Ones in the UK before the black ones.
>>
>>58244342
H-Holy shit, Anon.

I'm envious of the amount of guns you have. I hope to one day be as free as you.
>>
Why does WASDkeyboards charge up the fucking ass for shit ABS plastic??

Where can you get good custom PBT
>>
>>58243150

>>
>>58253461
As far as I know you can't easily change the caps on Corsair keyboards without heavy modding because it doesn't have a standard bottom row.

I have a Ducky One Tkl rgb meme. 2 months old.

It's nice but would be nicer if Ducky implements future software for more customization.

Okay so my ducky shine 3 is pretty dead... nearly all LED's are dead and it is really frustrating.

Really liked is my daily driver.
I would buy anoter Ducky one but i'm not really trusting these guys again.

Any other like ducky keyboards anyone could point out to me?
>>
>>58256136
Ducky One (TKL, RGB, etc)
Personally I like the TKL RGB version with cherry mx reds
>>
>>58256136

Poker 2 / 3 or MemeForce 68

split keyboards are the best, you will most likely never go back.
>>
Would you fellas recommend buying keycaps through Aliexpress? I need tenkeyless cheapish UK layout... will ask on the chinkshit general thread in a minute.
>>
Please help, my cat likes to sleep on my desk and it's super cute but my keyboard has blues and they keep waking her up when I type, what do?
>>
>>58257158
Well, as long as it isn't extremely cheap shit, it should be fine. You do get what you pay for.
>>
>>58257199
Either get o-rings or buy a keyboard with a different switch. My cat doesn't give a shit when he's on my desk and I'm typing with blues thankfully.
>>
For someone who types a lot and plays a wide range of games(CS, rpgs, RTS etc.) would you recommend MX brown or reds?

Found this keyboard laying around. Looks like it is an acer from 93, is it worth using? And what kind of adapter do i need to use it with ps/2?
btw I never used a mechanical keyboard before.
>>
>>58257412
Anything is fine, don't fall for the 'gaming switch' meme. Reds have no tactile bump or click, and browns feel like shit.
>>
>>58257412
i would recommend checking some switches out before buying a board, get a switch tester with gaterons and cherry switches.
>>
>>58257416
It would be nice if you took a picture of the sticker on the back so we could see the model number

Looking to get ajazz ak33 with the chink blue switches (pic related). Is it a decent buy or am I wasting my money?
>>
>>58257416
If you want to use that keyboard you need a din5 to ps2 adapter. The switches are spring over membrane so its a hybrid keyboard

Can i just rewire the cable with a ps/2 one then?
And the switches feel good to type on but if i dont press them exactly verticaly they kind of get stuck. Can this be improved with lube or something?
ps: it's "acer" writen on the switch.

i'd put them on my v60 except they're matias click switches.

if anything they'll go on this keyboard once i get used to the shortcuts and fn layers with the exception of the split spacebar of course
>>
>>58257870
What's the point of making a keyboard more ergonomic by splitting it, without doing anything about the incredibly unergonomic staggering that also results in ugly jagged edges at the split
>>
>>58257817
we have wikis on this you know

https://deskthority.net/wiki/Acer_6310_series
but yes you can rewire the cable yourself, but adapters cost like 2 bucks

Anyway, just put the mouse on the left hand side and the problem is solved!
>>
>>58257412
I play a lot of games and I ended up just ordering one with blue switches. We'll see how that works in about an hour when USPS usually delivers.

Was gonna get that Corsair Vengeance with the red switches on Amazon for $50, but it wasn't in stock and said it could be 1-2 months but now it says it's gonna be in stock next week.

However in the end, I paid $15 less for the Tomoko and I still have a gut feeling that I'd be the type to prefer blue switches over red even for gaming.
>>
>>58258534
Been playing with blues for 3+ years just fine. The only downside is if you need to double-tab stuff super fast, but it's not that big of a deal on 90% of games.
>>
>>58254119
I admit, I like that blue to the point of being violet case, could work with sone white keycaps, but those keycaps have to go. Who the fuck thought """floating""" keycap is a good idea?
