Erase everything. Install Gentoo.
>>
>>58227722
Is it actually compromised or is this a meme?
>>
>>58227722
Checked. Lovely minty fresh numbers sir/madam!
>>
What would you do if you were Clem right now?
>>
>>58227773
You think this is job of the Mossad or some Israeli hacker because Clem said he didn't want support from Israel?

I don't know, seems to extreme, but it may be a possibility.
>>
>>58227853
Hard to know, they have the israeli government on their back for political reasons. And they do have proper hackers of course. But they do not keep the iso at the web server that the hacker claimed to have hacked.

They would have to hack one or several of the mirrors.

They have several mirrors, the only thing they have on their website is a torrent file, but you cant add a new and different file to a torrent and expect that to seed like normal.

>open source is safe from backdoors because it's open source

well i hope this will finally put that retarded myth to bed

>Exploit found because source code is available for everyone to view

how does it feel to get cucked?

The only real safety is with constant code review, by people you trust. Like with openbsd.

LEAVE MINT ALONE

How long until ubuntu gets backdoored?

I say about 2nd quarter 2017
>>
>>58228361
It's been backdoored since 15.04

The thing people don't understand about security is that it's like an arms race

- If you have 100 people working on securing your code and 10 people working on cracking it, your code is going to be pretty secure
- If you have 10 people working on securing your code and 100 people working on cracking it, your code is going to be exploited

This happens regardless of whether or not your code is open source or closed source. Open source code tends to have more developers than closed source code, though; and closed source code tends to have more people interested in breaking it.

Both of those factors combine to make open source code more secure in practice, but it's not because of a property of open source itself, more a property of the community surrounding open source.

>one year later
As opposed to 18 years later like the windows exploit? Yes, it's much better. Funny it wasn't even found by Microsoft, but by Google.
>>
>>58228611
Most open source projects have zero people working on actively auditing the code. Only very few projects do, OpenBSD being the most known
>>
>>58227722
Solus doesn't have this problem

Would you download a Blofeld OS? Or a Skeletor OS?
>>
>>58229951
Another thing people don't understand is that there's no difference between a “security bug” and a “bug”.

If you have developers working on a project and fixing bugs, you have developers fixing security bugs as well

>>58227722
the only way to find out if this is a kiddy shitpost is that someone builds mint in the initial release state version and compairs checksums with that of the official downloads.

other than that it just looks like some faggot got on their distribution server, which doesn't necessarily mean that the isos have been tampered
