How does one tell if something is malware or not?
>>58227226
If you see happy, attractive people waring it at the mal.
rub it in your hands and drop it on your kitchen floor
malware will break, real software will bounce
>>58227226
You read the source and check if does anything malicious.

If you are to lazy, find someone you trust that has already did that for you.
Thats what gpg signatures are for.

Thanks, what if nothing happens but it mines bitcoin at the backfround?
>>58227396
This is the only correct answer in the thread

then it is hard.
I would start by getting familiar with the code structure.
Eg, you could start by looking for the usual suspects, recursive grep is really useful for this.
Eg, if you are worried about manipulating the system, see if it is manipulating the file system, if you are worried about phoning home, see what it transfers over network, if you are worried about backdoors, see if it reads random memory etc.

then you stop running it.
bitcoin mining is just a waste of resources.
