I just took apart a microwave using brute force. Even though nothing suspicious happened, I'm afraid I might have gotten berylliosis. What are the chances that I got lung disease?
>>
>>58222014
100%. The defibrillator is exposed. Go to the hospital right now!
>>
>>58222032
Bullshit. I know what I'm doing. I never removed the magnetron so I should have been exposed to any dust, right?
>>
>>58222014
you got eternal cancer.
Better visit a doctor

Did you break open the magnetron?
>>
>>58222055
Ah ok. The magnetron should be fine. Though, the oscillator could of been exposed to atmosphere. You may want to be checked for osteoporosis.

You should power the magnetron to see it it works, if it doesn't go to the doctor cause you have radioactive dust floating around.
>>
>>58222014
Did you break the magnetron or is it damaged? If yes then you might be fucked depending on type of magnetron.

No the magnetron is unscathed and still screwed into the microwave.

I said so earlier in the thread. Please read the thread first before asking a question.

>berylliosis

srsly? First, I highly doubt you were exposed to enough beryllium to harm you. Second, berylliosis only after years of beryllium exposure.

You're fine.

>>58222172
Oh, I see. It's ok. You won't get lungfucked.

I have already typed this post out so here you go anyway:

Also, you can't really inhale it that easily as far as I know. It's not dust inside the magnetron, it's a solid insulator.
If it's not broken then there is nothing to worry about.

If it looks broken just pack it carefully and throw it away at a proper disposal place. Don't fuck with it and if you're really worried then get yourself checked out so you can stop worrying.

My father is a technician, over the course of 40+ years he and others repaired a bunch of microwaves. Looking at a magnetron won't magically give you a disease.

Plus not every magnetron has a lungfucker 1000 inside it. Don't try to find out whether your has it though.
>>
>>58222201
I never even saw anything like that. Whould the fumes have a smell?
>>
>>58222226
Okay then. Thanks for the help.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I found this plugged into the transformer. Doesn't look like the thing in the picture but it's definitely a capacitor. Like the magnetron, it's unscathed. No dents or cuts.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as pedophilia, is in fact, child molestation, or as I've recently taken to calling it, child love. Pedophilia is not an action unto itself, but rather another sexual orientation of a fully functioning human sexual system.
Many males have sexual thoughts about underage girls every day without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the term child molestation, which is widely used today, is often called "pedophilia", and many people are not aware that there is a separation between the two. There really is pedophilia, and these people are orientated that way, but it is just a part of a normal sexual experience.

No. Microwave ovens don't cause lung disease or lung cancer.

They cause BRAIN cancer.
>>
>>58222128
chill, why you so uptight nigga?
>>
>>58222514
Probably both. But the fact that a broken magnetron in a microwave can give you cancer and berylliosis is very real.

ACTUAL SERIOUS ANSWER HERE

You can only get berylliosis if you chip the ceramic insulator on the magnetron and inhale some of the dust resulting from it. Looking at the picture, the magnetron hasn't even been taken off the chassis so it's probably fine. Btw not all ceramic insulators on magnetrons have beryllium oxide in them but a lot of them do. Here's a video explaining it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGZsGN8PzU4

Next time you want to take something apart, don't do it like a goddamn monkey. Take 2 seconds to actually read up on what you're doing.
>>
>>58222089

* Get a new microwave
* Open door and bypass safety switches
* Connect to mains with plug up side down.
* Expose body a few minutes at full whack.

All damage has now been undone.
>>
>>58225869

Followup: Apparently most modern domestic microwave ovens use aluminium oxide instead of beryllium oxide for the insulator. Still, since the contents of your particular make and model can't be determined, don't crush and snort it.
>>
http://www.americanberyllia.com/lit/Beryllium_Oxide_MSDS.pdf

gee i wonder how not touching it magically vaporized the material and caused it to exceed OSHA limits of human safety

Zero. Microwave magnetrons don't have any BeO in them.
>>
but srsly, has anyone else used a dremel to cut out the grill in the door so they can see the food better?
>>
>>58230215
If they do they won't see it (or anything else) for long.
>>
>>58230215
You'd eventually get cancer or something from doing that.
You'd literally be just exposing yourself to a high dose of microwave radiation every time you turn the thing on. :/

It's there for a reason jackass. Don't remove it if you don't understand it.

the fact that it is a warning to not crush it and snort it, really makes you think

Thats because you inhaled most of the particulates before they reached the smoke detector. Also the particulates are heavier and generally won't rise to the top of a room like CO2 will.
