Although I dig MOC which is a ncurses, terminal music player with fast browsing features, I recommend DeaDBeeF for you since it has advanced theming features.

Fuck it. I just nigger-rigged Banshee and symlinked my music to ~/Music and then used "Rescan Music Library" instead of "Import Folders" and it doesn't crash anymore.

All the other players can get bent.

Guayadeque is the best I've found so far if you like to build large complex playlists on the fly. It has a customizable UI where you can add/remove panes. Each pane allows you to filter your library by a different metadata tag.
