I am almost definitely not buying this thing, however before I totally cross it off is there any macfag out there able to change my mind? BTW my last two laptops were Macs, I am typing this from a rMBP which will be sold this friday. I need a new laptop, a powerful work one however none of my software required OSX in years, some even requires me to use a Windows 7 WM. Can someone here recommend me anything that is better than this? Maybe something with a nice trackpad.
Budget is less than $3500 unfortunately nothing too crazy.

If you're talking about that kind of money, there's far better options. Surface Book, hell even "GAMING!!!" laptops would be a better buy since they would pack more power than that puny Polaris 11 that they labelled as Radeon ""Pro"" because RX would be an insult apparently.

I don't really like the Surface line of laptop, looking for something with a similar keyboard/trackpad to the last rMBP. It doesn't have to be as thin, the major factor for me is the glorious Apple trackpad.
Bamp...

Dude, have you even looked at the Book? Its trackpad is pretty damn big. I wasn't talking Surface Pro's Type Cover, that's separate.

There is just so many things I don't like about the Surface Book, but I really hate how it folds.
Take a look at the new ThinkPads. E.x the X1.

who cares how it folds look at the craftsmanship and functionality which is years ahead of anything else out there.

macfag here, challenge rejected. Just bought one because unlike you, need OS X and needed to move up from 2012 model. Honestly, probably should have bought a 2015 instead. Touchbar is gimmick, I predict that it's a one-off experiment that won't carry forward, #donglelife and substandard non-replaceable battery make this a bad choice for the future. MS is making some smart moves under Nadella - like you I don't like Surface approach because still can't decide if it's tablet or laptop. But Tim Cook has led Apple right to the top of a Sculley-esque rollercoaster plunge back into irrelevancy, I can't see my next machine being an Apple.

I almost thought this was satire.
