How do I update the CPU microcode myself?
MSI hasn't released a BIOS update since 2013, but there's newer versions out there for my CPU.
Is it broken?

Don't do this to me.
>>58195998
You don't
>>58195998aptitude install intel-microcodeaptitude install amd64-microcode
Either package will update the CPU's microcode to the latest version, at boot time.
Microcode is stored in volatile memory.

the newest cpu microcode gets loaded into memory, replacing the onboard one.
If you have an updated pc you should have the latest microcode

Microcode doesn't really get updated much.
usually only to fix bugs/improve stability on CPUs that may have problems.

Ermmm, you do know that microcode and BIOS code are different things?
>>58197988

BIOS updates contain microcode updates that are applied during every boot.
Most GNU(+Linux) distribution also contain microcode updates. They too have to be uploaded to the CPU at every boot.
