Most of their designs aren't very good, and the quality isn't up to what they want you to think they are.
It's a brand sold mostly on marketing and "swiss made", with no real effort put into making good watches.
They do have some decent models though, but overall, the brand sucks.

buy a seiko diver's solar chronograph. it's similar to a rolex sea-dweller, though not automatic but solar/quarz and can go up to 200m instead of 100m like the gmt master.

don't shower with either, because that's different water pressure and both would break.

most watches, even rolex, breitling or glashütte break because the water in a shower, the "drizzle", has different water pressure than the sea.

you can say what you want about this watch

but ive tried it all, casio 5610, casio gpw-1000, seiko diver with metal bracelet, seiko with several different nato bands

but this is hands down the most comfortable watch ive worn

its handwound, which i assume makes it lighter than an automatic

also i think it looks fucken sweet, ive tried to copy that look with a seiko snk803 with a black leather band but it looked like shit

this one just looks cool

yeah its not waterproof and ill probably have to wash hands carefully
yeah it has no lume and the hands are low contrast
yeah it loses about 22s per day

but its completely meme-free

not to mention the emotional value

my grandfather bought it sometime in the 70s if not in the 60s

probably had to save up some money and drive to some big city since this was during the soviet union

when he died earlier this year i got the watch

and i wound it and it works probably as good as on the first day

i think its just super-neat

sorry for the blog post

i have a problem though
the entire watch-block inside the case has a bit of leeway
ie if i hold the watch upside down it falls (you can hear it)
also if i press down the time-setting-rotator i can see the entire watchface tilt up
how best solve it? give it to a pro? or just open the watch up and stick in some layers of something and close it back up?

There's only a dozen other listings of this and other G757 models all in the several hundred dollar range that will never sell, and occasional nonfunctioning as-is listings, so I'll take it.

Just my personal opinion but if you are going to get a Grand Seiko get one that is not boring/mundane. Nothing wrong with the ones you posted. They just have a somewhat basic design.

If you buy from there then add the extras like sapphire glass (for scratch free glass), swan neck(for nice fine-adjustment, usually only found at higher end watches) and waterproofing. They try to make it look as cheap as possible, but those things will make it last and be easier to maintain.

At thrift store. Subsidiary of seiko "lorus". Feel like cheap quartz. Are they? No good info online

Both nonfunctional, one is missing second hand lol

If you want to be a pathetic poorfag tryhard, then sure. Go for the fake.
>>

Not when you use lighting right. Thicker protruding crystal allows more light to pass through the sides illuminating the crown.
>>
>>58212849
Yes, cheap quartz, not worth picking up
Look for a jlc deep sea alarm :^)

I guess poseur is more accurate. You get the idea.

Thanks bro. Lol that article is what made me start thrift diving for watches. I got a 60 euro German quartz for $5, that's been my biggest score. I think salvation army filters there good-ish watches which is shitty. Does anyone else here thift store for watches? Any advice? (like should I estate sale or something?)

The bracelet is what threw me off. Felt like it was made of plastic.

Here's a pic of my only good thrift store score: 60 euro Regent quartz, saphire cover. Got it for $5. Japanese movement I believe
>>
>>58213111
That's not absolutely awful, but I wouldn't have bothered paying $5 for it.

I needed a watch of some kind lol all my others have broken. Broke unifag here. The saphire cover lured me in. It'll last me a long time, plain enough for everyday clothes.

I found a free Chinese automatic in my grandpa's house. Stauer.

It stops sporadically, so I bit the bullet and bought $100 of watch repair supplies. Gonna make a hobby out of fixing thrift store finds, this Chinese is the perfect to mess up on :). I'll probably post about it on this thread when I start.
>>
>>58213280
To clarify: it was unopened. But unused however long. I think it just needs re-oiling, but it'll be a fun project :)
>>

Well it's his money to waste.

And it'll be mildly amusing to watch him waste his shekels and destroy the watches.
>>
Going to buy my first mechanical watch. I really like the look on field watches. The SNK809 seems to be recommended alot, but there's something missing there. I'd like the dial to reach more to the edges and the case to be polished.. Is there anything for me? My budet is sadly around 200 euros. My wrist is little under 17cm/6.7inches.

I repair vintage bikes for a hobby. I'm an engineering student so I like to see how things work.

If you like watches and automatic movement so much don't you want to get your hands dirty? Really take something apart? It's possible, Internet has everything

http://www.thewatchguy.com/pages/repair.html

$100 is misleading, the tools are reusable. Quality watchmaker screwdrivers set to last a long time. Watch back unscrewer to replace batteries on other watches without scratching. Hand remover is niche I'll give you that. But it'll be a fun experience, and it'll pay for itself to do my own repairs on timepieces I find

Don't you have hobbies?
>>
>>58214273
>Don't you have hobbies?
I do, i collect watches and get some strictly for sale.

I buy cheap and jew people on eBay on shit pieces.
>>
>>58214273
because watches and bikes have so much in common
>>
>>58214142
It's a great looking watch, but yea sadly it's a bit too much for now
>>
>>58214365
Fixing things and learning how things work do. You can tinker with mechanical things like old bikes and automatic movement watches a lot more than modern pcb electronics, quartz watches, etc. All new things close off serviceability and learning how things work

>>58214352
Nice dude. Is eBay really the way to go for buying old discarded vintage watches? I can't even find Chinese automatic movements at my local thrift stores. So much quartz shit out there
>>
casio CA-53W or F91-W?
I bought the CA-53W and later realized that I needed a light.
Should I return it and go for the F91-W? Or which one do you guys value more; a calculator and dual time or a light?

Servicing watches requires precision work. The precision work is more akin to working with small electronics/electronic components rather than fixing a bike. Fixing bicycles, although does require skill, is rather rudimentary.

t.poor soldier who's job is to do field repairs on very sensitive equipment

Also, you aren't going to get any shekels from fixing dogshit quartz watches you bought from some backstreet hobo.

I just received this puppy as a gift. I want to wear it every day, but I feel like the band is a little too formal for every day use.

Do you guys have any band recommendations, or should I just stick with the stock band? I know nothing about fashion or what looks good with what

What's your wrist size?
>>
Complete noob here. Used to wear a watch all the time, stopped when phones became a thing.

My current watch isn't the greatest. It's auto (I assume, as it's kinetic - please correct me if I'm wrong) but I think that's all it has going for it. The finish around the points where it meets my wrist have all flaked off and it doesn't really suit what I'm wearing (which, 99% of the time, is some combination of jeans/t-shirt/hoodie).

I'd quite like to start wearing again but some guidance would be useful. Got a budget of around £200. Black finish on face would be good. Not too bulky. Not into gold unless tastefully done. Open season on everything else.
>>
>>58216412
It's fucking useless. No reason not to get the F105, it's basically the same price.

I have heard that they were common in bombs and terrorists used them. Will I look suspicious wearing it?

Meme watch, get it if you absolutely cannot afford something more expensive

mine ran like 2 seconds fast a day, sold it

>>58217299
fine as long as you're white
>>
>>58217278
It's ok, especially when you consider the price it is amazing value. The only problems would be rotor noise, which can be pretty prominent and the movement is quite antiquated

Stuhrling has never sold a watch for "list". There's no way anyone paid more than about 300 for that (and hopefully less).
https://www.amazon.com/Stuhrling-Original-353A-33152-Magistrate-Automatic/dp/B006GFTUDQ/ref=swr_wa_2_ses

You'll have a really hard time making the band any less formal because you can't really remove those lugs.
