The old MacBook I have has two 500GB SSDs in RAID, build in 4G modem and SD card mod, 16GB of DDR3 1333MHz, 2,560x1,600 retna mod from a 2012 Pro and I change the battery every few years. Served me well.

I'd probably get a i7 Pro from a few years ago and mod that soon.

The 2010 Macbook can only use 1067MHz memory, and has a bug in the EFI where it won't downclock the memory properly if both DIMMs are 1333MHz. At least one has to be 1067MHz or it won't boot.
