I have a samsung smart TV but it's fucking retarded. Can't download any useful apps to watch shit on it like Kodi. Just the usual ad filled apps I'll need to pay to use. However, I can use a USB stick to watch stuff.

Should I just get a bunch of USB sticks to load all my animes, porn and moives on or should I get a TV box like Amazon for Kodi? is there a better alternative tv box like amazon out there?

If I use the USB I'm not sure how to enable subtitles yet though.

I just want to be able to watch free shit and free live tv if possible.

Don't use multiple usb sticks. Use a external hard drive or a laptop hdd with a usb dongle. If you have a lot of downloaded shit and don't need netflix, buy a rpi and load open elec on it
>>
Don't get a firetv. I have one and its shit for android apps. Sideloading barely works because of the gimped version of android its running. No custom roms to get the amazon shit off of it either. Kodi works but if you are just planning on using kodi just grab a raspberry pi.
>>
>>58188699
Just plug an hdmi from your computer into the TV. You sound cheap, so that is the cheapest option.
>>
>>58188723
Can RPI act as a TV Box/Media storage? I'm new to it but was thinking of getting it a few days ago

>>58188739
is it easy to set up? What are your thoughts on the preconfigured Kodi Raspberyry PI's?
>>
>>58188750
Raspberry pi takes all of fifteen minutes to set up. Just copy NOOBS to an sd card and your done. It will ask when it boots what operating system it should install. Just pick openelec or osmc both are for running kodi
>>
>>58188699
Get a Roku and install plex to it. Then Install plex on your PC and organize your movies and TV shows there and it will stream from the computer to the roku.

The Roku is awesome you can plug your headphones into the remote which is based and it runs well and cleanly. Much better than the other tv units out there. All you need is the 3 which should be stupid cheap since it's old now. You can also turn on subtitles this way.
>>
>>58188699
Ignore all these suggestions. Just get the Mi Android TV box. It comes with stock Android TV and let's you plug in USB devices.
>>
>>58188699
Ignore all these shills. Just keep your cable subscription. Streaming boxes are all giant fucking memes.
>>
The only cord you need to cut is the one connected to your cerebellum, retard.
>>
Monitoring thread.

I was gifted a smart tv too.
>>

>ignore these shills
>keep your cable
oy vey
>>
If your pirate game is shit (you use public trackers), you're better off just subscribing to a streaming service.
>>
Is there a good alternative to kodi? I've got a PC hooked up to my TV and it's such a shit piece of software for anything stronger than a raspberry pi. I'd love to have something with an actual responsive UI and clean modern animations.
>>
Get an Intel stick and stream your shit from your pc to it, like, with a shared folder or whatever. They are pretty powerfull and they can be used as a facebook machine.
>>
>>58188750
The RPI can't do 4k
>>
>>58189337
why the FUCK do i need 4k
seriously
>>
>>58189392
Nobody said you needed it, he was informing you that should you have 4k content the rPi isn't a viable choice.

Buy or build a NAS

If you watch a lot of Hi10P anime fire sticks, and your average android chinkbox are woefully underpowered for it.

Pragmatically the best option is to get a NUC/Brix/Etc type box with a Core-M or i3 to have the oomph you need.
>>
>>58189507
can you suggest one?

I've heard of a Dragon Box but the fucking thing is like $300. The most I'd pay is like $150 to be honest.

Still leaning towards the rpi

>>58189337
I honestly don't think I own any 4K content. My Smart TV isn't 4K either.

>>58188854
>Just keep your cable subscription
Never owned nor do I intend on getting a cable subscription. Fuck them.

This is what 4k tv looks like
