I'm switching from ubuntu mate to windows for better music and video making software but after installing windows 7 on an x240 it's impossible to even connect to a network
the only driver that manages to work is the hd graphics one and aside from that i'm getting error messages and absolute non-functionality
so it looks like windows 8 is my only option, it can't be that much worse than windows 7, right?
also why do people always say that windows just works and linux is more hassle?
pretty much every distro i've installed works perfectly out of the box
only way to make windows work without hassles is to have the latest hardware that is available at the time the os comes out. trying to install it on hardware used on a previous windows version will always cause problems/slowness/bsod.
Which laptop model have you got?
Win 8.1 ain't bad, go for it
Also, what >>58175911 said. If the laptop was released with Win 8.1, then going back to Windows 7 will likely require tinkering
W8.1 its alright
Some times the metro interface will collapse rendering the start button unusable but I'm sure whatever software you want to run will work on there.
windows 8.1 is the best desktop OS I ever used tbqh

it's not GNU/Linux so it's pretty bad.
