So i am getting Fiber optic internet tomorrow and need some suggestions, for a router that can handle fiber optic, and 150mbps speeds?

You need to use 5GHz baseband to get good speeds. 2.4GHz is good for distance but it craps out around 50Mbps. Go for a 1900ap or 1750ap or higher router.
>>
>>58173520
I was looking at some of those. But im not to familiar with fiber optic, so do you need any special ports on the router itself?
>>
>>58173535
What? Just run the WiFi router in bridge mode with DHCP disabled. Let your ISP's modem do the main work, or get a dedicated fiber modem.
>>
I was looking into the NETGEAR AC1750 Wireless Router (R6400). But wasn't sure if it would get the job done.
>>
>>58173503
Anything Cisco.
>>
>>58173503 (OP)
you answered your own question.

Asus:
RT-AC3100 (4 port)
RT-AC88U (same model but w/8 port switch)
>>

>fiber
>150mbps

when will amerifats learn?
>>
>>58173503
Don't use 10/100 ethernet cables and you'll be fine. AC1700 series or higher from either Cisco or Netgear is fine. Wired/wireless, number of devices, distance from router if using wireless, are all things that might be important in narrowing down what specific router you'd want.
>>
ASUS RT-AC68U and install ddwrt
>>
>>58173503
>fiber optic
>150mbps
I'm 100% sure it's not fibre channel, GPON or some similar shit, so endpoint just ordinary Ethernet.
Most commercial routers are overpriced toys, ordinary cheap pc will be much better for it.

Decent

TP-Link Acher C7 or C8 if you want a good / cost performance ratio
>>
I have 1GBit fiberoptic interwebs and a netgear N7000. I get about 100mpbs effective speed from my AC wireless devices. My advice is to just route some cat6.

Installing ddwrt or openwrt is a must. supplied firmwares are botnet. buy a compatible router. if you get one with plenty of flash and use openwrt, you can install useful packages with opkg - like PRIVOXY.
>>
since this is the designated router thread,

anyone know any good resources on DIY MU-MIMO running off WLE600VX modules?
Going to make a god-tier pcengine router this spring.

Does it have hardware NAT support yet? Back when I got my AC68U you would lose out on hardware NAT acceleration with DDWRT, which would also take with it a large chunk of the router's WAN-LAN NAT performance. Still, could probably be enough for 150Mbps even with software routing, IIRC it could do 200-300Mbps (and 950+ with hardware on stock FW or modified versions like Merlin's).

>>58173503
Ubiquiti Unifi AP-AC Pro for wireless. Build your own pfsense box or if you have a home server / virtual machine host virtualize pfsense with its own network interface.

It's the only way to get 1GBps throughput on VPN and internet.

If he lives in a condo it's probably fiber into the basement to a splitter and ethernet cables up to the condos. Alternatively if he lives in a house he forgot to mention he have a splitter and from it an ethernet cable.

Are you retarded or something?
C7 and C8 can't handle Fiber.
Besides he needs Fiber channel Modem you retard.

I assume you mean 1Gbps, because for 1GBps you would need 10Gbps Ethernet and that is exceedingly uncommon for home use and home ISPs. That being said, there are by now quite a few consumer "routers" which can handle 1Gbps routing just fine. VPN doesn't need to run on your pfsense box, there's nothing special about it. You can run OpenVPN or w/e on your home server even if it just sits behind your gateway like any other device, those tasks aren't really related at all.

wifi is radio waves. fiber optic uses light. no extra connections. just plug the ethernet cables to each.

My ISP gave me a router that can deliver up to 800mbps over wifi and the max speed they offer currently is 500mbps.

Unless you NEED to have a router that isn't from your ISP because your autism or something.

Or your ISP are jews and don't give you one.

were you doing local packet tests across the internal network or are you talking about internet speeds?

Because if there ISP is shit it wont matter how good your router is.
>>
>>58179676
should've just spent that kind of money on some ubiquitis
>>
>>58179676
such a retarded thread....
transmit/receive speed depends on AP as well as on client devices.
>>
>>58178841
Bought this, had same range as my old Asus ac88u. Sent back to Amazon next day.

Don't fall for these memes.
