I got a chink tablet (Npole N718) and there's a weird bug in it.

When you touch, and maintain the touch, after like a second it's like you lift your finger off, like, for example, if you tap and hold an icon after a moment the icon drops itself like you lifted your finger when you didn't

Any clues? Thanks

Our internet speed will drop to an unusable speed and only returns to normal when I reboot the modem. Sometimes I have to reset if 5/6/7 times to get a consistent connection which could last anywhere between 5 hours or it might last 30 mins before I have to reset the modem again. Strangely, if the speed drops, I've found that if I don't use the PC right away and connect via Wifi, the connection seems more stable. When I wake up in the morning, I can always use the internet on my ipad and phone which are connected via wifi, but when I try to use internet though my PC, I have to reset the modem to try get a stable connection.

I also get a good connection after say 9-10pm where the connection seems more stable. I thought it might be congestion, but would the wifi work well if there was congestion?

Any ideas?

So I just installed a second hard drive (1 TB) and Windows is prompting me to initialize the disk before I can actually use it. The problem is that I don't know if I should use MBR or GPT. I hear that you don't need GPT for drives over 2 TB but I'm not sure if MBR is still recommended regardless these days.

I dual-boot with Ubuntu and my boot mode is Legacy (and I'm also not sure if I should change it to UEFI) if that matters.

for a mechanical keyboard? just unplug it and hit it with a hairdryer until it evaporates

electronics arent 'hurt' by water, but they are hurt when the water makes connections that shouldnt be made. you could throw a keyboard in a pool and then wait for it to dry and it would likely be fine.

if its a really bad spill and you dont have days to wait for it to dry, give it a bath in isopropyl alcohol. alcohol will dissolve the water and it evaporates in hours rather than days like water does. i've given my mechanical keyboard multiple baths in alcohol after spilling pop on them, and it works perfectly still.

Is it actually important the tasks take place on the laptop? It might be easier to simply set it up as a second monitor for the deskop somehow. Pretty sure there are programs to help facilitate this if it doesn't already have the functionality built in.

If you need to access the files on it that would also be pretty easy to set up through the network. If you need to do some processing on it while using the desktop then I'd look into if it can be accomplished easily through the command line, maybe set up some batch files. Program called nircmd might help you here, it greatly extends command line functionality as well as having some good remote support built in.

Lightning struck somewhat near my house. It was loud enough to wake up my parents and also my sister.

Of my three monitors, two went dark for a second and then came right back up with no apparent damage. The other monitor and my rig didn't even hiccup.

Half the ports on my switch are fried. The ADSL modem/router would turn on but didn't work at all and the lights were indicating apparently random and nonsensical conditions (nothing plugged into the LAN ports, two LEDs indicate there's a connection there though).

Here's the thing; my sister's computer won't turn on. It was off when the lightning stuck, however. First and only idea was to splice the 24-pin and EPS connectors from my PSU to it to see if the power supply had given. Pressed the power button, and it stayed dead.

Did the whole rig shit itself in it's entirety, or is there a possibility it's something else?

How do I make a user application into a system application on Android?

I know what to do, but after I do it, nothing happens. Says parsing error when I try to run the base.apk from /system/app. However, once I install it again from Google Play and go to uninstall it'll prompt me with would you like to restore to factory settings (something like that), but it just removes the whole thing.

Clearly I'm on the right track if it recognizes that it's in system, but I seem to be messing up somewhere. I want it to be impossible to uninstall. When you drag on it, it should say disable (if that), not uninstall. Just like how the bloatware is impossible to uninstall without root.

I compared it to other folders and it has everything it needs. The base.apk, the odex thing, and that other thing. All folders are there... The fuck is going on?

Furthermore, I've been able to successfully create system applications twice. Xposed and Lucky Patcher. Technically SuperSU, too. However, not really that simple to do. Surely there's a better way.

If it was plugged in the surge could have gone through.

When lightning is involved, it's really a crapshoot as to whether the hard drive is ok. It's likely that it was completely fucked along with the rest of the computer.

Try taking the hard drive out, plugging it into a working computer (as the only hard drive inside) and see if it starts up.

If you can, just hook it ub with a sata to usb converter cable (if you or a friend happens to have one. This just skips the step of putting it in another computer.)

Also, don't rule out that the computer broke before the lightning.

That's weird as shit.

First, do the "turn it off and on again" routine. Unplug everything for like 30 seconds then plug in and try to do it again. Just to be sure.

Then try plugging a desk lamp into the same outlet as the microwave and/or the tv. Turn on the lamp ( instead of the microwave) and see if it happens again.

The circuit might be messed up. You should check your houses fusebox and see if everything looks normal.

Also, try plugging your sisters computer in to a socket that you know works. (If you didn't take it apart yet.)

Tried all that, as well as the aforementioned PSU cable splicing to see if that was the problem. I've got a theory that a voltage spike made it's way into the telephone wires. That would explain the fried ADSL router, the couple of fried ports on the switch, my sister's dead computer (CAT5E right into the router) and the fact that I made it out alive (I've got the now-sacrificial switch in the middle). If that's true, chances are it's """""just""""" the motherboard and I'm saved.

>>58175677
wait but you said it comes back on automatically...

shit idk. maybe someone will come along who knows wtf to do.
>>
>>58175677
There is no fuse on the circuit, it's just a breaker. Also, with the TV, Xbox and microwave all plugged in at the same time and on, the problem is only when the TV is set to the Xbox input and the microwave is turned on or the door opened while it's on. Under the same condition but only changing the input to the set top box or aerial antenna (static), it's fine.

Not a big problem at all, we rarely use the xbox and just use the microwave to defrost shit so both things happening at the same time is even more unlikely, but I'd like to fix it if I could.

Are closed loop liquid coolers worth it?

I've been running a stock cooler on my CPU for the past 3 years, thought it was time I get an aftermarket one, but I can't decide between CLC or just simply air. I might want to overclock, not sure at the moment. Building a custom loop is pretty much out of the question, I'll just fuck it up.

I'd preferably want something that I don't have to replace anytime soon, but the CLC seem to have 5-6 year warranty and I think I'd have switched at that point anyway, so I think both are suitable for this.

My budget is around $100, but I can go more expensive if it's worth it in terms of better cooling and lower noise level.
>>
>>58176261
If you want the standard 4.5Ghz, on i5 or equivalent, get an air cooler. Hyper 212 would do just fine.

If you want to push that to 4.8+ Ghz a Noctua air cooler would do.

CLC is a meme tbqh. Its for those who want to get the extra 10% better cooling performance than the air cooler. Aka 2-3C better. By paying 300-800% more. Not worth it.

Currently running a i5 4670K, looking at benchmarks, it seems it does better or equal to the i5 6600K which would be the one I'd change to probably (if not going for i7).
My CPU is 3 years old though, so no clue how long I have to wait until it's obsolete.

Test the power supply.

Use a paper clip or any metal to connect the green(power on)/black(ground) nodes of the 24pin connector.

If the PSU has LED light/fanspins, its good. Otherwise probably fried.

Also see if you can attach something to the PSU, like a fan to see if it spins.

Why do people get computers with more than 8gb of RAM? Assuming no video editing and such is involved.
>>
>>58177119
they don't know any better
RAM is cheap
>>
>>58177119
Windows 10 can run on ~1-2GB, that leaves 6GB for others.

Modern games can run on 4-6GB easily. If the person is streaming their games, that would require some extra ram as well.

If they're running any other programs in the background, like firefox/chrome, that would consume about .5GB right there. Any others would add on top.

So, the answer is, multitasking.

You can't do || and ### because || is network filter (i.e. block the resource from being fetched) and ### is cosmetic filter, also @@ is whitelisting. To apply a cosmetic filter for a specific website the format is domain###filter. The easiest way though is just go the website and use the element picker instead of doing it manually.

Thank you, i wasn't sure what all the things mean. And yeah I use the element picker most of the time, but there are some elements with certain IDs that keep appearing on different sites, so i would have to do this for every single site, which is a bit annoying. For example different google or amazon TLDs, when somebody sends me a link, or every kind of overlay, or donation elements that fill half of the page. If i could just create some generic rules that work on every site, that would be nice.
I guess I could just write my own userscript that hides all those things, but I thought it would be possible with ublock somehow.

Well I wasn't specific enough, I'm talking about TCP, but in the context of implementing a Java server application... and you can accept a number of clients on the same port, and get a unique socket for each one, or so it seems... I just wonder if the number is limited to say 65k someting or MAXINT or whatever, and what the hell is happening under the hood...
>>
>>58177038
>>58177445
>>58177551
Wait, if you mean the ip of the "other side", that's correct I guess. Can you open an indefinite amount of sockets to other ips (limited by the number of possible ips)?
>>
>>58177551
>>58177584

That depends on the OS, which for windows it seems to be 100, but java only has a backlog of 50.
>>
>>58177602
So you're saying that a Java "server" can only open 50 client sockets on the same port? Haven't tested that yet, but it seems hard to believe.

Hello I need help with burning .mp4 files to a DVD, so it can be watched on a DVD Player.

But the problem is I have three .mp4 files first is around 10GB, second around 8.37GB and third around 6.75GB.

I cant seem to find a a program that will let me burn this on multiple DVD's so it can be played on the DVD player? Any tips?
>>
>>58177611
I'm not familiar with java, but the documentation of serversocket says it has a backlog of 50. Not sure how you do your stuff.
The actual connection count probably depends on where it runs on.
For normal Windows it's 100, no limit on the server editions.

Honor 8 is 352,-
Microdick Lumia 950 XL is 312,93
There also a shitton of Sony devices, make sure to look into that too.

ok /sqt/

Got a new monitor for xmas. Can't get it to work alongside the first monitor. New monitor is Acer R220HQ, which is connected to my machine with HDMI. The original monitor is a Samsung S23A300B, connected by DVI. With my computer on, using only the Samsung monitor, I can plug in the Acer, but then the Samsung turns off and only the Acer is used. If I unplug the Acer the Samsung comes back no problem. Device manager shows only the Acer monitor when both are plugged in, Nvidia control panel (I have Nvidia 1060) only shows the Acer when both are plugged in. Forcing rigourous detection does not accomplish anything. Windows display settings in control panel don't even offer multiple displays as the option does not show up. Any help is appreciated.

Other specs
Windows 7 64bit
i7 960 cpu
nvidia geforce gtx 1060 6GB
8gb ram total

DVI port is sometimes on a shared bus with one of the HDMI ports, meaning you can't use them at the same time. Using a displayport instead, or even a different HDMI port than the one you are trying may fix the problem, or simply using two separate HDMI ports.

I had this issue years ago and getting a displayport to DVI adapter fixed it immediately

Classic Nshitia only including 1 of each useful output (only 1 dvi out and 1 hdmi out, whereas 3 display port outs). Maybe i'm tech illiterate but i've never heard of these display ports until now, one would assume a modern card like this would at least have 2 dvi outs.

Anyways thanks anon, i'm off to the nearest best buy jews to snag a display cord and adapter
