It means there are so few things that use USB C that you'll need an adapter for ANYTHING you want to use on it
>>
>>58156052
What relevant devices don't have USB C versions?
>>
>>58156132
Pretty much every USB device on the market you already own. USB C hasn't taken off because its not directly physically compatible with USB A. Things like USB drives, mice, external HDD's you might use as back up. Hell its the same shit as firewire and thunderbolt. Virtually nothing uses it and they're otherwise unsupported and unusable

Agree with this. Was furious when the new MacBook didn't have a floppy drive either.

You have to use a fucking adapter just to get anything with any of the MBP's working because they have a bunch of ports that are 100% useless and there are no legacy ports like USB A, SD card slots, or HDMI slots on any of their models now. Even Mini-DP which is a widely used display out format isn't on there which would have fit perfectly but apple would rather be a fucking hipster magnet, use the most worthless features then advertise the lack of usability and versatility as a feature
>>
>>58156455
Mini DP was the original Thunderbolt port (I think, it might have been an inverted port, I can't recall). Shame they abandoned that.

Nothing necessarily wrong with USB Type C but it shouldn't be the only thing on the computer.

Also I really dislike the Taptic touchpad thing. The keyboard is borderline shit but it seems just as good as the standalone Mac keyboards despite the extreme lack of depth so I won't moan about that.

Still...nice gift all things considered.
>>
>>58156411
People who buy laptops for power needs are misguided. MacBook is the most portable laptop on the market which makes it the best.
>>
>>58156422
nice post?

it's perfect and runs the best OS of all time
>>
>>58155192
i'll give apple one thing, they know how to make a sleek looking device with god-tier build quality.
>>
The one port on the macbook is acceptable cause it is not a machine people who buy it will do much with. But their main like of "Pro" laptops it's ridiculous. Regardless they should be shoving every port they can possibly think of on it like chinkpads or at least say hey you can dock it with out proprietary dock. But not being able to plug in a mouse without an adapter is stupid and buying a third party docking station is retarded.

I would definitely go for a macbook but probably not the latest version. I'll see what the next iteration looks like.

I have a 2015 XPS 13 at the moment and I would still go for something lighter. I really can't see myself going for anything larger.

Apple will stop using intel and switch to ARM effectively merging it's mac and iOS lines.
>>
>>58156685
So macOS isn't deprecated right now?
>>
>>58156586
Not him but I simply don't find apple as a suitable replacement for any laptop I've had. The first issue right off the bat is the price point. They're very expensive for my tastes and I only seem to get the good combinations of hardware when I start to spend hundreds of dollars more than it really should. My second problem is just software support. If I'm buying an Apple computer I really want to use exclusively Mac OS otherwise if I'm using it for any other OS I might as well use any of my other cheaper/better laptops. I do game but I also find convenience in the software support of Windows overall. I simply can't justify the price for a computer that simply doesn't do anything more or better than anything I have right now. For example, Apple doesn't have any desktop market penetration what so ever and the imac's are still depreciated as fuck from yesteryears When the newest imacs that apple offers now came out, the AMD 400 series just came out as well and they were already a year behind in performance. Not only that but the cheapest imac they offer is literally an overglorified laptop with a large screen. The most expensive is over 2200 dollars and doesn't even have that great of performance over any of my other machines.

I just can't find any use or purpose for Mac or apple products in general in my life purely and only because they don't do anything bigger, better, faster stronger or any of that. Apple's newest gimmick has been shooting themselves in the foot with removing any sort of hardware support and removing 3.5mm jacks from their phones. I mean what is their logic beyond their obvious scheme to sell more adapters because apparently their already expensive ass products haven't cashed in enough?
>>
>>58156758
>convenience in the software support of Windows overall

Games aside, what did he mean by this?
>>
>>58156794
It means I don't have to switch OS's to get software support or use things like bootcamp or vmware or dual-booting. The point of buying an apple computer in part is to use Mac OSX so using another OS on my apple product is purely redundant since all my other computers do that already. Basically I'm looking for any exclusive software I simply can't find anywhere else that would warrant using Mac OSX and the only real one I could find was FruityLoops or what ever its called. But since I'm not a musician and there are tons of other (and higher grade) music editing programs, that novelty is quickly shaved off.

>>58156930
Fucking spoiled white brat
>>
>>58156518
Yeah, I think I got the wrong pic. It was from my father so I didn't know the details.

The keyboard doesn't match this one.

I don't like macOS more than Windows but I've always been grateful to my Hackintosh because it has helped me in my work life.

Fascinating to me that the iPad gets superior memory bandwidth and latency to a MacBook pro. I bet you apple would love to switch to arm in a few years but will be hesitant too because of the switch away from ppc
>>
>>58157112
"Almost" is $400?
>>
>>58156217
I don't even mind that they use USB-C, a laptop that size will have obvious constraints, so they might as well make their only port as versatile as possible. But they could have included another port just fine, the Acer Swift 7 is thinner and has double the ports.
>>
>>58156489
Not really.
>>
>>58156489
OSX is okay... But its UI is long in the tooth
>>
>>58157607
What constraints?
>>
>>58157667
The constraint being it has to be thin

But apple despite having enough room for it all, refused to put in other ports like mini-sd card slot or another usb C port
>>
>>58157667
Uh less space for ports. But for example, another usb-c port opposite to the existing one would have been just fine. I mean, Acer managed to do it on a thinner laptop.

>Fine, but what kind of display adapter works off a Type C? Do I have to use a Thunderbolt display?

Get a monitor with USB-C/TB3 support.

It's awesome, single cable transfers data, video, audio, and power. Makes it super nice to work on.
>>
>>58156380
then you buy one that connects natively with type c and not only passes the display signal, but also charges the macbook, and the USB hub built into the monitor, leaving you another type c port. Yes, these displays are expensive now, but apples use of them as the only machine port will force industry adoption. Type C is objectively a really good port, especially if it also incorporates thunderbolt 3, its just that almost nothing is USB C native right now, so the new MBPs are objectively irritating because of all the dongles, but this will force the industry to build native USB C devices, to negate the need for the dongles. then, a few years down the line, when the standard has matured, it will likely be pushed to lower priced machines, and all the peripherals available will be Type C, ready to plug straight in. This wont happen unless some company is willing to push the envelope and force industry adoption of the standard, and Apple seems to be a suitable company to do that, as they did the same with Floppy Drives, PS/2 ports, and to some extent optical drives, and the industry, for the most part seems to be doing ok without those technologies Sure there will be some special scenarios where "I need muh legacy hardware to do something incredibly specific" but for 98% of computer users it will never be a problem
>>
