Yep, I finally caved and installed W10 a few days ago. I don't have internet at my apartment, so I usually just use my phone's data over a usb tether. In less than a fucking day Windows 10 used over 3 gigs of data, whereas when I was using Ubuntu, I could go 2-3 weeks before running out. W10 also has ridiculously high CPU usage on my laptop.

You need to tell windows it's a metered connection. Unless your hotspot is a windows phone it's going to treat your wifi as a regular wifi. My windows tablet with 4G built in hasn't updated itself or windows defender for 3 months due to not connecting to wifi the last 3 months.
