why are laptops so horribly overpriced?
why can't we build custom laptops like we can build pc's?

A lot more engineering goes into a laptop than a desktop. Laptop GPUs are often higher binned parts than desktop variants because they need to use less power. It also becomes harder to work with laptops when everyone wants smaller and thinner machines.
>>
>>58152412
get a Clevo barebone
it's the closest you can get to a custom laptop

They're designed to be small and light, with custom heatsinks. It's cheaper for a CPU to be soldered to the motherboard

You should have been looking at Chromebooks then. Here's one for just $250.

laptops are cheap

if you want a custom >rig, build a fuckin desktop

laptop components are all smushed together and besides maybe adding ram, not really good platforms for 'upgrading'

when you want to upgrade just buy a new laptop

not hard

You can custom build a laptop but it costs more.
Also, laptops tend to cost more since the silicon must be higher binned for better thermals. On top of that, way more engineering goes into developing a laptop.

How are you planning to get a CPU, PSU, HDD/SSD motherboard and RAM for $250?
>>

Because putting a bunch of expensive powerful parts into a box takes no skill, engineering, or design thought process. When people talk about building their GAYMEN PCs, they are really just assembling them, not "building" them.

When it comes to laptops, you are talking about actual complications because it is about fitting a certain level of performance into a small form factor that dissipates heat and promotes cooling well, all while not looking like a giant piece of shit(ASUS), and typically requires custom built components on some form or another. It is very hard to actually build a good laptop.

The A10 Fusion is comparable to Intel's low power dual core processors in terms of performance, clock for clock.

Geekbench is not a valid benchmark because a lot of its tests use fixed function units, which do not measure real CPU performance.

Netbook form factor devices.
There are various reports the A10 can outperform the Skylake 6100U/6200U series processors in certain tasks.
>>
>>58161314
>Netbook form factor devices.

Those don't exist anymore. You're talking about Chromebooks which are not performance oriented in the slightest.
>>
I have been looking around the last 2 months for a laptop or at least a mobile PC.

Considered a micro-atx computer too, macbook pros, surface book/pro 4, thinkbad x1 tablet and carbon.... However, for the price/performance, with great sadness, I may end up buying a 4k/i7/16gb RAM razer blade stealth... (I can always buy the e-gpu housing they sell and put in one of my old GPUs too)

>>
>>58152412
Requires more work. Desktop you just slap a bunch of parts in a box and go, laptops you have to design, lay out, route, and produce each part individually to specific standards, while keeping cooling, expansion, and performance in mind. It's much more difficult than you appear to think.
