Is there any decent and lightweight way to play movies from a Windows PC on an Android tablet over the local network without transcoding them or having to install Java shit?
upnp samba nfs ftp http davfs sftp cifs
to what are you streaming it to?
If another PC, >>58149941
If a TV or another locked-down device, try Plex or Kodi.

Kind of feel bad for kids growing up today surrounded by useless technology like social media. They just don't know any better.

Please at least put in some effort.
samba
you can use VLC for android which has built in samba but for some reason you can't sort files by date created
also you can use amaze + mx player

I just mount shares on android and use MX player.

I use ES filemanager and mxplayer.
On my windows computer, share folder.
On my tablet, I just open ES filemanager, browse network, click network ip(computer ip), then folder, click video file and then play with MPV.
Werks just fine.
