i prefer HF radio most but a handheld hf rig is nigh impossible, i rarely use VHF/UHF but if i was to buy a VHF/UHF handheld i would want a more generic and wide-banded one that covers 136 to 74 & 400 to 512 and full recieve from 88 to 512 and all mode AM/FM/USB/LSB and it switches to FM Wide inside the FM broadcast band, i know these manufacturers can build these radios smarter if they would let the engineers do their job and quit listening to sniveling marketing trolls and their memes

Ha ha, totally agree. Except I still prefer VHF or UHF only because I cant speak for HF as I have not gotten the opportunity to try it yet.

A noob here. Do any of these devices / technolgies offer encryption? Or is it always just plain transmission that anyone can pick up and listen to?

Been thinking about getting a pair of good walkies. Is the Baofeng UV-5 the best all rounder for the price? Not looking to spend more than $60.

Baofeng is pretty good, note that its not FCC approved but as long as your not jamming or stepping on someones signal your probably fine.

headset recommendations for Motorola radios, like the MR350R and such? I bought a bunch of them for cheap and it's useful for when my buddies and I go out and get separated. tried some cheap headsets in a noisy environment and it was so loud I actually got dizzy while someone was talking in it, and the click when someone starts talking is unbearable.
