looks like my motherboard needs to be replaced. that means i will need to also buy a new CPU and also RAM sticks.
this is my plan:
i3 6100 tray = 139$
gigabyte h110m = 75$
corsair 2x8gb ddr4 = 105$
total = 319$
should i invest more in the cpu? honestly when i was a kid, more mhz meant better cpu. nowadays i have no fucking idea how it works. i5 and i7 barely add any mhz and yet cost at least twice than i3.

going higher gets you MOAR COARS, op.
if I were you I'd just get an old LGA1366 hex-core xeon and an X58 board, then overclock the balls off of it.
it's a great idea if power is cheap where you live. otherwise, just get a NUC or something.
i3 is a dual core
i5 a quad core

if the heaviest thing i do is compiling and photoshop, will the i3 be enough for the near future?

Why are you paying 105 bucks for 16 gigs?
