I can't handle the V shape, the treble destroys my ears. I just want a neutralish headphone with decent bass to bang my head a little and no peaky treble after 6Khz.
>>
Second for anyone who owns a set of T50rp Mkiii?
Is it worth putting the time in for these things? People "say" you can really make them shine, but I don't want to sacrifice a clean bass
>>
does anyone have any opinions on Audio Technica's Solid Bass line of headphones? I'm thinking of getting the ws1100is
>>
>>58125653
The ones I just mentioned (the ws1100is) might be good for you, but they're only semi closed because there are vents in the back. you could also try the m50x but that might have too much bass than what you're looking for

They need to be comfortable, my AKG K77s don't fit well over my tunnels and I end up with them digging in to my head.

as neutral as possible, I don't like stuff too bassy. If I want extra bass I'll turn it up on the equaliser.

>Past headphones
AKG K77 - the sound is decent but they don't fit as well as they used to since I upped the gauge of my ears and one of the ear cushions is falling to bits.

maybe m40x or hm5/xpt100

maybe MSR7, it's a bit colored but nothing too major
>>
bois i'm raging
my hm5s arrived today, tried them on and immediately realised the left cup plays at like half of the volume of the right... i tried exchanging cables and input but nothing, it's the cans' fault. now i'm waiting for the amazon refund, gonna have to wait a month or so to catch them on sale again
>>
>>58126182
if you dont want to wait you can buy reloop shp1, these are the same as hm5, just diffrent color scheme and you dont get additional cables and pads
and they are cheaper
>>

these are literally three times the price i paid for the hm5s in my country, but thanks anyways

>>
>>58126320
they are 90 euros usually, 65 when on sale, they go on sale roughly once a month on italian amazon

>>58126332
can't find them on amazon, would rather not buy someplace else
>>
>>58126354
>would rather not buy someplace else
why? i got my hm5's from some chink (mp4nation?) store, they're flawless and i got crappy little amp extra.
>>
What's a good "fun" headphone to go with my AKG K702's in the $100-150 range? I see the Brainwavz HM5 recommended a lot, are they overly analytical?
>>
>>58126384
for hassle-free returns, mostly. you were lucky but this time I wasn't. also, I dont think you can find any of the clones at a lower price than 65 euros, and i'm kind of a poorfag

I've done a lot of research and the Philips X2 were the most reccomended so far. I've also been looking at the sennheiser HD 600 and HIFI man HE-400i. The biggest thing to keep in mind is I want the best possible sound without an amp (unless mobile). Any help is appreciated.

as far as I know, X2s aren't very neutral, but they have the benefit of not really needing amplification, which you most likely will need for the 600s & 400i

400i takes the lead by a huge margin in quality though.

Honestly, just get a small portable dac amp along with the headphones

>Whats the cheapest place to get a cable for these
Off some Chinese delivery site.
The price Sennheiser charges for a spare cable is actually more than some of the 800 cables sold by the usual snake oil salesmen.

>>58129881
Zeos doesn't have a clue how these work, and his anecdote doesn't constitute a general proof.
Your ideas about amps are faulty.

>>58130624
It doesn't look too silly. The response is the combination of the peaking filters and the graphic EQ, visible in the analysis panel.
It looks like you found the upper frequencies to be very excessive. As a note, try not to introduce more dips than you need.

>>58131005
When it comes to electronics, it's not about how much better it sounds. Rather, "better" works on the principle of degrading and distorting your sound less. This really isn't that hard to do well enough, but audio folks like throwing money at audio products because they can.
>What all do I need for good sound
Something to deliver voltage to the headphones, of course. You need the DAC to make digital data into a comprehensible electrical signal. Plugging it into a radio works fine, no DAC required. You might want more than just the radio.
You have a DAC for anything that is digital with analog output, the issue is if it works well for your audio. This is the central reason to get another DAC, to replace the inferior one you already have. DACs generally aren't designed to be used directly with the load, they feed into an amplifier first.

Amplifiers are there for boosting signal. Ideally without adding distortion artifacts, unlike a guitar amp. That's about it.
You can follow through a checklist.

Amplifier/DAC checklist:
-Is it too quiet?
-Is the output impedance too high (fixable by equalization)?
-Is there noise/EMI or hiss to it?
-Does it sound distorted as you start to crank up the volume?
If the answer is no, don't get one.

you can't just tell people to get something without explaining to them what the pros and cons are.

Depends on the content too much. I was able to ABX 96kbps well but 128kbps not anymore. There could still be some problem samples, audio content where the quantizer fails audibly in short transients. Hydrogenaud.io had a thread where people were able to tell 160kbps Opus from lossless using a specific song. I guess I would just use 128kbps myself or maybe 160kbps to comfort my audiophilia.

But they literally sound exactly the same, they have extremely similar response. The 800 smokes the 600 for imaging, clarity and separation of instruments. It's not worth the extra cash but I think you'd have a hard time proving its a worse headphone.

They absolutely sound the same in terms of their character, you're an obnoxiously flirtatious and picky faggot if you are trying to say they sound significantly different. The 800 has maybe a tiny bit more bass but for the most part the 800 just sounds like a 600 with a way, way better soundstage.

HD600 have bass but it uses it to texture things, not to put it forward. You can have this analogy, some headphones are like a steak with a piece of butter on top of it. You see butter, it's prominent and when you take a slice your tongue meets with butter and then meat. HD600 is a steak in a butter SAUCE, you don't really see it and it's mixed with steak, you take a bite and you feel the steak, but steak wrapped in a buttery smooth sauce. Probably thats why I liked HD600 so much, female voice is so smooth.

>>
>>58134206
They do sound significantly different but I'm going to blame this on myself and being very accustomed to fairly flat sound signature. It's a matter of perspective as well as basic skill in listening. Not interested in comparing the coloration as you see it in measurements. The most HD 800's objectionable part is the broad upper mid notch followed by the 6KHz peak.

I don't find the 330g weight a problem. Heavier than HD 650 but overall the HD 800 feel more comfortable on my head because of the earpad size and material. Size or looks isn't a problem for me, they are only used when I'm at home, on my computer and when I don't want to use speakers. Replacement part pricing is stupid but I don't see myself needing any in a long while. Price is what it is, value is subjective.

Going from an open pair back to a closed pair really makes you notice the difference. I thought soundstage was something people overvalued, and that it wasn't that important. But going back to not having a wide soundstage really hits you hard.

Got a hyperx cloud to replace my SR850 (668b clone) once it breaks down. With the stock pleather pads they're complete garbage, the bass just drowns out everything else, but after swapping to the cloth pads they're pretty good. Sound rather similar to my SR850, use a tiny bit of EQ to raise the mids & sub bass a little bit to make it sound more alive.

Still kinda wish I just coughed up the bit of extra cash & got a K612 or 7506 instead of this, but oh well, it makes up for it with not having to deal with a second wire for a mic. Not to mention, if it takes a longer time for them or my mic to break (which I doubt) I could just keep the cloud as a backup and get one of those or even a dt880 regardless

The DT770 and the M50x are what I'm deciding between. The M50x just dropped to 120 while the DT 770's are 135. I heard the M50's clamp but I have a small (size 7 hat) head. Wat do?

Anyone have experience buying from Amazon Warehouse deals? They have the Sennheiser HD 598s for $30 cheaper compared to the stock version but apparently it has "Minor cosmetic imperfection". I don't really give a fuck if it has a minor scratch or two but I'm not sure what their definition of a "minor imperfection" is. Also don't want the pair of cans dying on me within a year obviously.

Where in the world are you where $60 is noticable? Even when I want a $100 it has a +/- $100 expected price difference.

It does not matter in reality even if there are some small price differences.

It is obvious that it's not noticable, I even wrote my views on it in plain english.

Mostly because I don't want to spend lots of money on audiophile-tier placebo snakeoil shit. whatever a good $200 headset can do a $20 000 wont do much better. I don't want to entertain audiophile-tier crooks.

Not really, unless you do music recording and mixing and need super analytical reference headphones, wait until you can get something like the K712 instead.
>>
>>58136985
Yes for nearly every headphone that's all you need if we are discussing performance. Amplification is not rocket science and I do not fathom how much of this misleading mysticism surrounds it. Everyone who doesn't have a clue about it just needs to have an opinion I guess. The guy is comparing amplifiers between price points which is unrelated to their performance. The fact that he is doing sighted listening just makes the entire comparison worthless. And in the case some expensive amplifier sounded in any way different than a working Fulla 2 used with a load it can drive loudly(e.g. HD 600 or the LCD-2 he talks about), it would be one shitty amplifier. Noise floor is something that can be legitimately audible but I highly doubt that it was O2's noise that started creeping up. The point about pot imbalance and excessive gain is a solid reason to get a better amplifier.

>>58136500

>>
>>58138299
You don't understand what you are talking about. K702 is the hardest load out of these options for any amplifier to drive. Reasons being low voltage sensitivity coupled with the low-ish impedance. If you can drive those, you can drive all of the suggestions given to you, too.
>>
>>58138030
Cheap, and sound good. Even cheaper if you DIY one yourself.

third, check OP
>>
>>58138426
>first of, do you like your brother?
Not really. He's a fat little shit who does nothing but play video games. I'll feel guilty if I tell her to get something shitty though.

The wiki page recommends doing the headset plus stick on mic right? I'm not sure he'll be able to deal with that and an adapter because it's a single combo jack.
>>
>>58138317
>pls clarify famalam
The 712s actually have bass and the treble is less aggressive. The 702s are very analytical and piercing at times.

>>58138299
Out of all these options, the HD600s are the easiest to drive, followed by the 400i, 712 and then the 702s

>>58138396
The 701s are about as hard to drive as the 702 and let me tell you that in my experience they aren't very hard to drive at all, they just don't get too loud out of my motherboard's line out which is fine because I value my hearing
>>
I am considering getting DT 770s for use with my computer (for games, music, videos, etc.) and they look like what I want. Reviews are mostly positive and I even see it recommended here a few times, however I notice a lot of people comment on the sound quality being "muddied" or something along those lines.

If anyone here has these and can comment on the sound quality and how comfortable they are for long periods of time that would be a big help.
>>
>>58138478
what about the 7xx against the 712?

Putting the build quality away, which would be the best for weebshit?
>>
>>58138455
but I'm a skinny little shit that does nothing but play videogames as well

so I'm guessing it has to have a single 3.5mm? If so, maybe get him hyperx cloud, it's actually p gud.

>>58138532
I've heard the 712 has less treble than the rest of AKG's similar lineup, so 7xx will prob be better

that being said MDR7506
>>
>>58138532
The build quality is practically the same. They sound almost identical but the 7xx has ever so slighly more bass and ever so slightly less treble
>>
>>58138489
They're not muddy. That wouldn't be the right description. Lacking in mids? Yeah, a fair bit. But they're a V-shaped headphone. Anything with a similar signature will be the same.

Sound quality and comfort are both impeccable. Huge comfy ass velour pads and cups, and the usual god tier Beyer no frills headband. You'd have a hard time finding any similarly priced bassy closed back that outperforms them.

Just make sure you get the 80 ohm variant. The 250 ohm could potentially be under powered if you're not running them off a dedicated amp/soundcard.
>>
>>58138489
Do you want V shaped?
Do you want closed headphones?

If so, DT770 is pretty much the best, especially at that budget

They should still be good. I listen to a lot of jazz and I still enjoy them with it. A more balanced headphone choice could be a Brainwavz HM5. God tier pads so they're comfy as hell. Sound great too. Build isn't quite on par with Beyers, but it's fuckin Beyers. They're build pretty alright.

M40x + HM5 pads are also an option, if you want them to be able to fold and don't want the Y cable split. Clamp is more though so if you have a large head they may not be too great.

That said, you can just EQ the 770's and they'd be fine.

Yeah, in your Xonar drivers would be an EQ. You can also install EQ APO or other similar EQ drivers for system wide equalization. Windows usually has a built in bass enhancement/reduction as well if that's all you need.

Whatever music player you use should also have plugins, if not native support.
For Foobar you can just use the graphic equalizer plugin.
