I almost bought a new computer so I could use adobe products again, but after much contemplation over the switch to cc I decided to say fuck adobe. If there's anything other than a nice gui that photoshop/illustrator offer that gimp/inkscape doesn't, its not worth the bullshit like paying monthly, botnet, and being tied to windows/osx. adobe is comcast tier shit.

Why do so many people use Photoshop? For work, fine. For hobbyists, ok I guess. I refuse to believe there are that many people needing it on a regular basis. How many logos are you creating for all those unstarted projects? How many memes are you generating per week? For everyone else, there's GIMP.

I've used PS plenty but GIMP is just as good and I actually prefer it.
