Hey, anons. I posted in the stupid question general earlier about my crappy ISP and internet service, and new developments have taken place.
Basically, my internet goes up and down constantly for a few seconds to minutes at a time regardless of use or of weather. My ping is also jittery as hell at all times. This has only been happening for a month or two, although this is the second time that it has happened.
Anyways, a "technician" from my ISP came out, and said the problem wasn't on their end. He ran speedtest and plugged into my modem, claiming that the only reason the internet would go down is because I'm using all of my bandwidth- which doesn't make sense, considering how it goes down and that I'm pretty sure maxing out bandwidth would just cap speeds regardless. He then went on a spiel about upgrading my plan and all sorts of garbage about solar flares. What do you guys suggest I do?

>muh wifi
use wired ethernet and try again.

Seems to be fuckery on your ISP's end. I called up mine about 3 weeeks ago to tell them I'm cancelling at the end of the month to switch ISP, my net has been shit ever since, dropping out every 20 or so minutes for the entire day.

If you're using wifi or ethernet over powerline, try connecting directly via ethernet. You have 0 packet loss.

Ask them to lower your bandwidth.
Got this problem years ago, my ping was between 80 and 200
Now it's a static 40.

Go install mtr or ping plotter or some shit and let it run for a bit so you can see what happens when you "lose" internet. Find where it's dying/getting delayed and work from there. With any luck it'll just be some bullshit with your router, since at least that's within your control.

How would lowering bandwidth help, wot?

I believe it is my router- but it's one they gave to me. I'm just trying to get them to replace the thing at the least. The network will stay up, but the internet cuts out constantly and my ping on everything is fucking ridiculous.

Either way, it's nice to see what's going on when things go to shit. In the image I've got here, you can see there's a block where it just starts fucking up the whole way. This is because I'm on wireless off of an external alfa card.

it's probably because of windows' retarded background wifi scanning and the streaming BS

Try WLAN Optimizer OP (martin-majowski.de). I had bad ping spikes/packet loss and this eased it a bit. The only trade off was my average ping was slightly higher but there were virtually no more ping spikes.

ayy lmao great minds think alike heh

your ping times are impressive, senpai

I just tried this, didn't do shit. I try to play a game online or even do the ping test in cmd prompt but everythin is still fucking terrible. What do?
