I have 2 Rails applications that are being each tested separetely, using Rspec.

Now I'm developing a functionality on App2 that should change App1's DB, how am I supposed to test this?
App2 is creating a worker on Sidekiq that does this job on background, and I lose all ties to the worker.

I suppose I would need to keep App1 open while testing App2. It doesn't matter to me, but it feels clunky and wrong.

Maybe I should just check format of the sent requests to App1 on App2.
And the format of the received requests on App1. Would still need to catch these requests made by the Sidekiq worker somehow. Also, the worker can take up to 30 seconds to start running...

I need a /g/ approved antivirus

I usually use MBAM and Avast, anything I need to know about them that google searches won't tell me, such as scummy tricks or hogging memory?
I'm always really paranoid about my internet condoms and think they might let shit slip through, especially with all these autoexec javascript porn ads Hiro's sticking on the site.
uBlock should keep me safe for the most part but I'm still paranoid.

Strange problems with microphone.

All of the sudden when i'm in TS there's something like a 'switch' sound, following long periods of static. Everybody is complaining, of course.

As my Headset was old and began to have a loose cable i thought it might be the cause, so i've ordered a new one.
Didn't solve the problem. I switched between rear/front mic in, didn't work either.
Later i found out that my soundcard has a shared "hybrid" line-in/mic-in slot. So i switched to that with the thought that on-board must be the culprict.
I still have the same exact problem.
I tried the following without success:
>change wall cord
>plug in pc direct, instead of a splitter
>dusted it out
>changed between on-board front/rear and soundcard
>windows recording devices settings (15%, +30 mic boost/100%, 0 mic boost, etc)
>realtek hd audio settings in every combination possible
>installed drivers instead of win7 default
>reinstalled drivers
>reinstalled the OS
>checked for malware
>bought a new headset for 60€

I'm running out on ideas what to do. This is annoying for the others, but even more so for me as i have no clue how to fix this shit.
It started about a month or so ago.

I want to network map two of my remote servers to drive letters natively in windows. The issue is that I only use keys to authenticate (with passwords on top of it), which causes an auth failure in the in-built mapping wizard. The third party program I found, FTPDrive, doesn't support key based auth and everything else looks like trialware with similar limitations.

Is there a piece of software /for Windows/ that will allow me to do this?
>>
>>58106476
Did you try your hardware on another VoIP client such as one that is free as in freedom like mumble? Try capturing all input sound/all sound and play it back as well. Failing success on either of those, you should buy a cheap clip on mic and see if that produces the same result.

Or it could just be that TS is proprietary garbage. :^)
>>
>>58106362
if you are that paranoid just install linux, 100% secure
unplug ethernet cable when booting to windows
>>
>>58106592
recorded it with that crappy win recorder.
It's audible, albeit not as loud becaise the "automatic voice normalization" option in TS is giving it a boost.
If my installs wouldn't have been compromised by some malware infecting my phone, tablet, both win and Linux preventing secure ssl connections i's switch immidietly, but as of now i'm too fucking lazy to spend half a day installing and configuring Linux again. Don't misunderstand me here, i love ALSA, but i'm too lazy to go through evetythong and end up having the same issue over there as well.
Also eouldn't have a problem with WoW, but GTA5 is unplayable on Linux.

Just installed windows 10 om my parent's computer and holly shit I'm impressed, it's really snappy even though the computer "only" has a Core2Quad and a 5400rpm HDD.
Now I want them to use edge with an ad blocker, what does /g/ recommend? I use uMatrix but obviously can't install that in their browser. I made a quick search and uBlock doesn't seem available. Should I install the ol' Adblock Plus or is there something better for Edge?

I've never used Samba, or really any Windows <-> Linux middleman software. Will it support a native, fully interactive mount in Windows that only allows for an SSH key based auth scheme? The idea was to not work against my hardening of the auth scheme/access control, and just mount the sftp endpoint natively (like you can in a sane OS).

Honestly don't even know why I want this anymore, it's mainly the principle of the matter now.
>>
>>58106425
You can run a tracker program. Google to find. Free or trial version is enough for you.

Have to say, I've had this problem myself. If you're using wifi, it's probably the same. Old cards or borked drivers tend to suspend your current connection to look for available wifi connections. If it happens every 10-20 seconds like clockwork, that's your issue. There are workarounds, but the easiest is just to use an ethernet cable when gaming.
>>
>>58106971

It's not the router cause I'm plugged directly into the modem, but I'll look into these tracker programs when I get back from work, thanks.

Right, but the question was about malware spreading between CPU architectures and/or OSes. For example, iPhone (ARM) malware spreading to Windows/OSX/Linux (x86).

I've been having trouble finding information about this. I'm trying to use a 65" UHD tv as a second monitor, however when I play videos on it using MPC, usually during motion heavy segments the there's a bit of screen tear. It only last for like half a second, but it looks like a delay where the video player has to catch up. I have a 980 so it should be able to handle smoothly playing video on a tv like this. Is the problem that it's not the main display or the video player?

To elaborate on this issue, I'm running Avidemux on my machine but it looks like pic related. Everything's far too small on the HiDPI screen and it's unusable

I've tried disabling scaling but that doesn't seem to work, changing the res didn't either.

However, what I did find is if I changed the res from 3200x1800 (my current res) to something lower like 1600x900 and then rebooted and launched the program, it looked good, though everything else looks shit.

Obviously this is less than ideal, but it made me think, if I can trick Avidemux into thinking I'm running at 1600x900, but really I'm running on normal res (3200x1800), shouldn't I get the best of both worlds? So is it possible to just make a program think my resolution is different?

Mate, it doesn't care about the name. It isn't sending and receiving data from "128 GB waifu collection", it's sending and receiving data from "/dev/sdc1/" or on windows, "E:\". The name is just put into some config file on the drive itself, and it's only read when it wants to display the name to you.

It's an i7, I think 4970 or something, can't remember the model number. GTX 970.

I understand the RAM doesn't do any serious deadlifting, but the main problem is that the RAM I'm using now is over 5 years old. I just need a fresh model set with better latency because I keep having memory leaks. I'm under the impression that RAM will be more useful if I have more space than I had before for intensive applications. Even if it's not a huge improvement, it'll be a much better result than what I have right now. Besides, I'd like to try making a virtual RAMdisk out of some of the space if it's not entirely necessary.

After always being able to find stuff, Windows Search is suddenly being picky and I have no idea why. Despite certain .pdf files being in a folder, when I punch in the name it claims there are no results. Yet it can find specifc .gif files just fine, as well as folders. Strangely, it can find one .png but ignores another. Filename isn't an issue as they're basically sentence, phrases and all.

Google is no help. The folder where the majority of my stuff is is already indexed and restarting changed nothing. I only ever use Windows Search when I want to find something in the clutter so God knows when this happened. Anyone have any solutions?

tl;dr Windows Search is acting up for seemingly no reason and it needs to be fixed ASAP.

>Clean and reapply, smearing the paste on the board is not the only risk, you would also introduce air bubbles which would raise your temps

Ok thanks.

I just searched up how to do it and all I need it seems is isopropyl alcohol.

Is it possible to permanently fuck up your CPU if the alcohol runs down the sides or anything? I of course will let it dry before inserting it again into the new mobo.

Sorry if this question sounds autistic, I have just never done this.

don't pour on it, use wet cotton swabs, you'll need tons.

Ye, try to complain to your ISP a bit, if all your devices go out it's their fault.
either that or your family enjoys putting faraday cages around the router from time to time to piss you off.
I guess it could be faulty wifi, but if your ISP provided you with it it's still their responsibility.

How does one change the text color of the labels of items in the Firefox menu through the userChrome.css file? Specifically the History submenu (pic related).
Context: I installed the Arc Dark theme for Firefox and saw that the font color for bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar hasn't changed i.e. my bookmarks were just black text on a dark background. After some mild research, I added the following to my userChrome.css file:

.toolbarbutton-text {
color: white !important;
}

However, this apparently also changed the text color for recent history items in the Firefox menu because DOM Inspector reports that they are also considered toolbarbutton, just like bookmarks, and since the theme didn't apply to the menu, I now have white text on light background in the History submenu. Essentially, how can I change the text color of everything in, as it were, PanelUI-HistoryItems? And optionally, the same but for zoom-reset-button and PanelUI-customize in the parent menu?

That specifically. I have an older router so it says block services instead of firewall, but I can't seem to find how to do the top thing. I'm able to BLOCK TCP/UDP IN/OUT all IP addresses on Port 53, but it blocks internet access for all computers. Says DNS error and then says no internet.

I wasn't really sure but I was thinking maybe more ram?

Computers are digital devices, which means a computer engineering course will be focused on digital electronics, then leading to digital logic all the way up to operating systems and high level programming. It will be an all-around experience regarding computing devices with particular emphasis on computers.
Electrical engineering on the other hand is more focused on the hardware aspects of electronics, i.e. you start with a solid background on the physical properties of electrical and electronic devices and work your way through the design and manufacturing of both digital and analog circuits, with some general programming course. That is if you don't go for the field of electrotechnics, which is instead more focused on electrical energy management and high power systems.

An expanding field is that of embedded systems, which makes use of knowledge from both electronics and computer engineering. Embedded systems design requires knowledge of both domains in order to implement dedicated hardware and software to control a well-known physical system

Make sure to disable all tracking/ads options if you stick to Windows 10. Consider that some monitoring stuff may be hidden (i.e. no option to disable it), but, on the other hand, some hidden monitoring may also happen on Windows 7.

I bought an SSD from a well-known company with a very good reputation and this SSD has great reviews and tests online. Threw it into my machine as boot and used a platter as data. That computer was powered off for several months and stored in a room while I worked around the country. That room never got too hot or too cold, and wasn't too humid either. I can guarantee the computer was never moved or disturbed because there were only 2 people with a key to that room which was me and my dad who was deployed the entire time.

So I get home, get my computer out and see it up. It doesn't boot. It powers on, everything spins, but I get a boot error.

I load a bootable toolkit to look at the drive and the partitions are completely gone. No recovery software can find any trace that there was ever anything on this drive.

Anything important was on the platter drive which still works fine. I was able to pull data.

SMART on both drives doesn't indicate any problems whatsoever.

I decided to see if I could reinstall windows on it, and it installs just fine. I wipe, install something else, it works fine. It's been almost 2 weeks since a reinstall and the drive works and hasn't cleared out my data...

...what happened, /g/? Shitty manufacturing? Shitty drive? Install Gentoo?

what the instances mean, does it mean it can be only accessed by 3 people at one time or what? on the official site it says this: The MaxSpareServers directive sets the desired maximum number of idle child server processes. An idle process is one which is not handling a request. If there are more than MaxSpareServers idle, then the parent process will kill off the excess processes.

but thats way too complicated for my tiny brain to comprehend

httpd in prefork mode immediately activates a number of child servers equal to StartServers.
These servers take care of one incoming request each.
You cannot have more than MaxClients child servers active at the same time. Between these, the number of spare servers (i.e. idling servers, i.e. servers waiting to serve a connection) is always kept between MinSpareServers and MaxSpareServers.
The father process' responsibilities include taking care of these constraints.
The directive simply means you cannot have more than 3 idling child server instances, i.e. servers that are not performing any work. With respect to MaxSpareServers, this is done as described in the manual, i.e. any excess process will be terminated.

Well that configuration only sets up the maximum number of spare servers. Why is your main interest limiting the number of max spare servers? The number of idling servers shouldn't really be an issue, it's more of a tuning of some sort to limit excessive use of system resources.
On the other hand, if you want to limit the number of simultaneous requests, just use MaxClients 3

Can someone help me add Abjects to my UIRC network list? I keep trying but it always says that the connection failed. It wasn't there by default so I'm trying to add it. The IRC client is Hexchat

I go to Networks, click Add and give the new network the title "Abjects" without the quotes. I then click edit and go to the servers list and type in irc.abjects.net and press enter. When I try connecting it just says that it failed 24/7.

Any tips?

Hey guys.

So basically, I need to be able to access the SSH of my RPI remotely outside of my local network. The problem is that my public IP changes every couple of weeks. How can I access it without needing the new IP every time? There was a site that apparently you could install on the RPI and you signed up to it to access it remotely. I can't remember what it's called, is there a better solution?

Thanks.

I figured it had to do with some homework. You're welcome. However please notice that MaxSpareServers affects IDLE clients, so putting a limit on that does NOT affect the number of simultaneous requests. MaxSpareServers is just used for resource management reasons.
To limit the number of concurrent requests you use something like MaxClients.

Yes. You can do something like home.domain.com and tell your router to forward external ssh port to internal 22 to your raspiss. Use a non-standard external port so your raspi isn't having to reject record login attempts 24/7. I'm using 55555 because it's in the range of unused ports and easy to remember.

Probably.

But "piracy" has nothing to do with people downloading material from unauthorized sources.

"Piracy" is when you have 20 DVD burners in your apartment, buy DVDs by the 1000 pack, crank out all the popular movies, and sell them for $8 a pop from a van. A "pirate" has absolutely no use for the concept of trading files for free on the Internet, and they hate the fact that so many people do it.

I need help lads. My job is boring as shit and have nothing to do all day for 9 hours. It's a goddamn bank so they disabled every single non-internal whitelisted websites. Basically my internet does not go to the outside world. And no, proxies/VPN won't help.

Thing is, I've been using my phone to browse the internets for hours and it's becoming painful for two reasons: posture and typing. When I use my phone i just put it on the desk and I have to look down which is very bad for my neck. About typing, I get really anxious about typing slow/make a lot of mistakes because with a keyboard i have like 99999999 wpm.

So, what can I do? My idea was getting one of those retarded tablet keyboards but my stupid fucking phone doesn't now allow USB OTG and I'm stuck with bigger size/more expensive bluetooth ones. Still, getting one wouldn't fix the posture thing
