Grandpa here on your internet club.
>old loser here, kitchencuck to boxcuck
>some college credit; "mostly" finished with AS, but also have some CSCI credits that make me "mostly" finished with an AAS (web development).

I understand community college degrees are worthless save for transfer opportunities (Columbusfag, I can transfer to tOSU, so what should I do? Am I too old to learn Java/Droid dev? Could I get some money as an employed person, or would I have to freelance? Or should I forget about web dev and programming because it's just too late for old losers to change in today's world?

On the other hand I thought I could chip away at a Plant Pathology degree and get a job growing pot. Perhaps some programming in my background (a cert or two) would make me more appealing to the medical mj industry? None of the biology/ag kids seem to get jobs, they just go to grad school and muh poor person.

I'm axin you fine people because you are well-versed in the current state of the tech sector and I like you better than /adv/. I don't want to work at Sears. (Any kys advice please include your suggested method.)

See if you can somehow transfer into computer science or take your finished AAS and apply it towards some kind of math or hard science related stuff. There is extreme hiring age bias in web dev so it's better to try for scientific programming or something like that.

You could also freelance

It's never too late to learn to program, old timer. I mean you even learned some horrible new lingo from here.

But do as the other anon said and do freelance, start with C and work your way up from there.

Go to bed dad you're drunk

How old is old? I've worked with two late bloomers that started learning late 40's, mid 50s. Neither of them are the best developers and I think the age played into it, but they are still better than most of the younger hacks out there. It's a small sample size though, if you like technology go for it but if money is the only thing you like about programming I'd recommend staying out.

"Are a company car and payment of my antiporn fee included in my benefits package?"

That's not too old. If you love tech, then go for it. If you are doing it for the money, you might be disappointed in the long run.

Impressive. Calculus courses and linear algebra part of that?

autist here, I chose not to go into computer science because I saw it get flooded with plebs when I was still in middle school. You might luck out, but way to many people go into it and never get a job.
I know someone stocking shelves at walmart with a computer science degree right now.
