On a consumer drive, the difference is negligible. The biggest performance gain you see is from IOPS. Hard drives are capable of ~200 iops whereas even the cheapest SSDs are capable of 10,000.
Gigabit ethernet is 125mb/s or 37,000 4k iops.
SATA is 600mb/s or 153,600 iops.

I have a NVMe drive in my laptop and a SATA3 SSD in my desktop, games load a little faster on the NVMe but it's nowhere near 4x despite supposedly being 4x faster.
