Hello gentooman,

Thinking of getting into JavaServer Pages. The server side programming market is overcrowded with PHP faggots or any other hipster language... I already know Java extensively so I don't need a lot of extra training to grasp JSP.

Compared to PHP JSP is compiled and statically typed instead of interpreted and weakly typed. Developing might take more effort but the result is superior performance wise. Except if you use PHP library functions (those are implemented in C) then both are similar.

If you are interested in more about performance and benchmarks (great read btw):
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/225161349_Performance_Comparison_of_PHP_and_JSP_as_Server-Side_Scripting_Languages

What do you think /g/?
And general JSP thread I guess.

PS:
I just got back on /g/ after being a year away. What did I miss in cyberspace. Is Stalmanu already world emperor? Do dragon dildo's finnaly have bluetooth connection?

>dragon dildos with bluetooth
Lol do you live under rock? Mine is connected to IoT platform and constantly pushing stuff to cloud.
>>
Does anyone else know a great source to learn from? I use the one from tutorialspoint but I feel there is a better alternative.
>>
I guess it's true what they say. Only consumer products are discussed here. It's not a real technology board.

JSP is piss easy, I'm pretty sure that tutorial will be all that you need, everything else just google/stackoverflow the question you have. learn how to create your own EL functions
>>
Currently planning to use sparkjava for my next page.
In my work I program with php so I'm more familiar with pages which embed both html and php compared to templating languages which would require me to know the-backend-lang, html and their shitty templating macro language.
Jsp seems nice but haven't found any resources on how to use them with sparkjava.

JSP is trash don't do it. Build your front-end with a meme framework (angular or react/redux) and use something like freemarker or sass for styling. This will allow greater separation of concerns, and will make your front-end more reusable. you can use the same front-end for any back-end, you just need to rewrite the service layer.
>>

JSP is server side why are you talking about client side frameworks?
>>
>>58078946
And why is it trash according to you?
>>

server side unnecessary

this

And with if you actually want to write the back end?

>>58079136
you still have a back end. it goes like this

db -> dao -> service -> rest controller -> sends json to front end over http
>>
>>58079207
have you ever done any serious development?
>>
>>58079450
nah bro i'm just spewing shit that i read on the googles!

rest has the benefit of being independent of your front end. you can easily add more applications to it (maybe a mobile app?) without adding much to your back end.
