I'm considering to install bsd, which flavor do you prefer, or is this completely retarded to begin with?
Also interested in this, so bump.
Someone will probably recommend TrueOS... I'll put it this way though if you have ever had issues with your hardware under Linux... Prepare your anus it's about to be a hundred times worse.
Start with openbsd it's designed for desktop use and will actually work out of the box. Probably.
Bad in general is a pile of shit though. Have fun!
I really liked GhostBSD as it works really well out of the box. It is based on FreeBSD which is the most popular BSD and has the most packages available. On one of my laptops which is a ThinkPad it works really well. However, on my other Lenovo Laptop, which is an IdeaPad the Wifi does not work and I cannot get that fixed. However, GhostBSD is pretty nice in terms of looks and has a lot of really good packages pre-installed.
TrueOS (a.k.a PC-BSD) is another good optionbut I have not tried that one personally.
Just run them in a VM and play around.
