Next-level programming threads start here.
Have you programmed in functional languages today?
common lisp macros have a retarded syntax
I have actually written a bit of F# today. I'm re-writing my Brainfuck compiler to target .NET.
karin a shit
Since the thread needs some life, here's some topic to discuss:
Does presence of FP features in various languages make them "real" FP language?
What are your thoughts whether some language belongs to FP field or not?
>>58069330
it would be a multi-paradigm language in that case, no?
I can't wait for the FP fad to die.
>>58069330
Does the presence of OOP features in FP languages make them Object Oriented?
The question can really be generalized to "For a given paradigm X, is a language considered to be an X language if it supports it, or only if it encourages it?"
There is no general consensus on this matter, really.
>tfw to intelligent to waste my time on hobbyist programming paradigms
Posting this thread caused the side effect of pushing another thread off the board. Better abandon thread FPfags!
>>58069468
It's wrapped in the 4chan monad, so we're all good.
>>58069415
A brain that large would produce a massive strain on the body for oxygen and blood.
Why do FP fags think FP is the new modern way of programming even though it's old as fuck?
>>58069640
Is that why telcos are always so terrible?
>>58069391
You shouldn't, since the FP language is used to carry out telecommunications in the world. It happened to be so useful so even web developers started to adopt it.

Not sure if in here or best in SQT
>Making basic game engine in C# for self-edumacation
>Going to build own rudimentary scripting language for end-user scripting.
>Know from CS degree that functional programming is good for lexer/parsers.
>F# and C#, both being .NET, 'should' play well.
Any good tuts for getting started with F#? I did some Haskell several years ago, but the two languages seem sufficiently different, plus my general lack of experience in the paradigm makes this all very alien to me.

Materials at fsharp.org look nice desu.
>>58069712
I've found F# for Fun and Profit to be a little helpful, along with the general documentation on the fsharp.org website, and MSDN
