PC-BSD is the simplist to use on a desktop, or FreeBSD.

What's the current situation of FreeBSD running GNOME3 with Wayland/Xorg on a laptop with hybrid NVIDIA/Intel graphics?
>>58063109
thats quite specific anon
go see for yourself
>>58063128
I tried to. I think it was 1 year ago, and while I got GNOME3 up and running with Xorg, albeit with immense lag. Couldn't do anything about the drivers at that time.

Daily reminder that FreeBSD still doesn't support Broadwell iGPUs and newer.

Why won't FreeBSD boot from USB? I tried dd-ing both the .img file and the .iso. NetBSD booted from USB without issue, and so did Debian.
I really want to try FreeBSD 11 but my computer doesn't have a CD drive.

i also had this issue at first, what i did was used gparted and ran 'mklabel msdos' onto the disk first, then dd'd it across. do ensure too that your boot order is set correctly with secure boot off

Because:
1, I'm not a systems programmer (and, frankly, I shouldn't have to be just to *use* an OS)
2, There's a free OS that's good enough and supports my hardware (i.e. linux)
I'm just wondering when will FreeBSD catch up with the "latest trends" in hardware, because the stockpile of old thinkpads, although impressive, is still limited.

It's an older laptop, no secure boot or UEFI to worry about.
I'll try to do mklabel msdos.
