If I know Windows 8.1 and its shortcuts and whatnot, am I able to use Windows 10 professionally in a support position?
Apparently, Windows 10 is absolute shit. So, I'm thinking switching to 8.1 from 7.
I bought Windows 8.1 at launch, but stopped using it for some reason. I guess it must have been lack of start menu and classic theme.
Remind me again why I shouldn't use Windows 8.1?
VMs are a thing, you know.
Also I use 8.1 every day at work, it's fine. I usually forget that I'm not running 10 unless I go to the start menu

Slap classic shell on it and you're good

Windows 8.1 is far superior to Windows 10.
Stay on it as long as possible.

7 > LTSB2015 > 8.1 > LTSB2016

I have tried it myself, but all these strong opinions about have saturated my own. There's a reason I'm still on 7.

8.1 has annoying bugs carried forward from 8 which were never fixed despite 600 updates released. Most notable is Synaptics touchpad which does not load on startup and resets all settings with every restart. The other bullshit is the disk cleanup which takes 8 hours for some reason.
Go figure.
