Is 75 dollars a good price for a model F XT keyboard in relatively good condition?
>>

might as well just buy the whole computer at that price point.

So first you mkg guys say that everything above 60% is a meme and then you adding numpads because "wow they ARE convinient!". How hipster/retarded are you actually?

Looking to buy my brother a gift, these are what he's looking for. It'll be his first mech keyboard so pretty much anything will do, as long as it it's decently reliable
>>
>>58049192

The thing is they are inconvenient as fuck because when you go to use it it's more often than not moved out of the way and it's more effort to move it back in to position than to use the linear keys
>>

I hate to tell you this, but this is the only place I could find that sells mechanical keyboards.

http://www.playtech.co.nz/

They do have some Ducky keyboards in stock so go for one of those

this piece of art was a reaction to that.

Made the speedpad because I want a numpad for CAD, but I don't want to switch keyboards every time.

>>58049112
Thanks. I'm rather surprised that the 3D printer didn't make more of a mess out of it. Still needs some finshing with acetone though.

I don't think I am going to go for the g80-3000 since they still make them.

The one you linked is actually nice if it wasn't greek layout.

this one came out quite well I think. It depends on the layer height, shapes that you're printing and a bunch of other factors. Using a slicer that isn't shit also helps, though that's something I haven't bothered doing so far.

You can also clean up 3D prints as necessary with basic tools such as sanding paper and files, or just paint it with acetone or do a vapor bath to make the entire exterior shiny smooth.

it's entirely depending on taste, but also a good way to determine how old the person giving the opinion is.

People who appreciate the full size keyboards tendo to be people who were using computers before laptops were commonly affordable. The first laptop I owned was in 2009, purely out of conveniance (travelling a lot that year). PC kind of guy for everything else.
>>
Does lubing switches make that much of a difference? Bought a LJD61 with zealios from some guy on reddit but the switches are unlubed. Not sure if it's worth it to take it apart.

too retro looking for my taste, I don't care for the little sushi things on the modifiers. I'd prefer just black text with red for the hiragana. to each his own.

originative has some japanese keycaps which are a bit more conservative, though they also have that "retro" two-tone color scheme to them.
>>

https://www.originativeco.com/products/modern-beige?variant=18906335301
I do like this one. One weird comment in the single review says the keycaps are "very tight" whatever that means.

dat price tho
>>
>>58054008
Well don't except to get dye-sub weeabo keycaps for less then 70 bucks, because it aint gonna happen
>>
>>58054008
probably referring to the fact that they sit very tightly on the stem, e.g. take more pull to remove than most keycaps.

They're only ten bucks more than the set on aliexpress.
>>
The double color dye subs look nice, I'd probably buy a set if I had MX stems in my Topre board :(
>>
>>58054008
that's a fantastic price for that many presumably good pbts keycaps in one set. would easily be another 50 at least with GMK, and another 50-100 with SP.
>>
>>58054008
should've pre-ordered them with they were cheaper anon :^)
>>
How does Topre feel compared to MX red/clear? I have experience with those. How's the feedback, weight, etc. Clears too heavy for my fingers after a long time of typing.
>>
>>58054072
just go to some box store like microcenter and try some out. My one recently got the realforce rgb and the variable actuation distance is pretty cool, though while I didn't like the feel, maybe you will
>>
>>58054049
I'm just taken back I guess since they're the price of a lot of keyboards. I've never bought a set of keycaps and always used default sets, but I really need a set of japanese caps so this will probably be the set.

I bought Logitech g810, at first I was worried how loud it would be but truth is it's much more quiet than my old keyboard at office or home. It's very sensitive. Want a mechanical keyboard very similar to my Lenovo Enhanced Performance keyboard. Which would be the best one?

I don't really understand the appeal, it looks really nice but for the price I don't see how I would get anything out of it over a 100 dollar board

Just get the dirt cheap non-backlit one. I own one, it's an amazing board compared to anything else at $40. I've since added a Noppo choc mini with blues to my collection. Don't think I could ever go back to such light switches like reds. I can't think of anything worth complaining about on the keyboard except the font for the legends. Having no hardware switch for control and capslock sucks quite a bit too.

I swear I'm about to give up to score an old mech kb... It would be my first, and I would like something like the Model M. But these sellers on local auction sites either know what they habe on hand and want to jew me with Model M's with no cable and broken chassis for abnormal shekel amounts, or they don't know ehit about keyboards and try to pass their 1990s rubber dome shit as """"vintage keyboard"""" and I have to guess the model and read 10 year old russian forum posts to find out if it's a mechanical or a rubshit.

Ok I'm officially 200% fuckin pissed

I had a rosewill RK9100 with browns and it was a really good keyboard I had one from early 2015 too which was great but I spilled lemonade on it and it broke so I bought another one since it was such a great keyboard

within 2 months this new RK9100 with browns died, the numbers stopped working and shit. So I made an RMA request to have it replaced. Rosewill said they discontinued the RK9100 with browns and they'd send me a new RK9100 with reds. I contested this and said I didn't want reds and they flat out told me that if I want a replacement I have to have reds no questions. wtf what ever so I get this keyboard with reds which is what I'm using now.

Got it yesterday, I don't really like the reds, they're too sensitive for me and I liked the browns. I just noticed that my Windows Key doesn't work and the period key on the numpad doesn't work either

Now I'm pissed because I spent 20 dollars on the shipping only to get ANOTHER broken keyboard. I just want a simple, minimalistic, full keyboard with browns and some USB hookups so I don't have to have my headphone wires going all across my desk
>>
>>58062176

Anyone tried out Cherry Nature White (browns w/o bump)?
>>
I'm currently using a Noppo choc mini with blue switches, this is my second one. I also own with reds.

Anyway i just noticed that occasionally my 's' key will input two S's on one key stroke. I'm not going to RMA because these things are made in asia and it will take an eternity.

Have any of you experienced something similar? Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot it or resolve it
>>
>>58064888
I think the Choc Mini has something that can increase debounce time so you should not experience chattering.
It's one of those fn+ something on the top row. It looks like it is on the F8 & F9 but I might be wrong.
The key on mine looks like a volume up one its next to a volume down one but its for debouncing time.
>>
>>58064888
Oh, I'd like to add some thoughts on this keyboard and why I ended up buying two of the same model. It has features that I'm not sure exist in other boards and so is essentially the perfect one for me.
>the layout
Having the 6th row perfectly inline with the number keys makes them easy to reach for keybinds in MMOs.
>hardware caps/ctrl switch
Being able to use capslock as ctrl makes control modified keybindss much easier to reach and the bottom left ctrl is the perfect pussh to talk button because i just need to lower the position of my palm to engage it. I don't need to move my fingers.
>keycaps
I believe these are PBT keycaps. The legends on them are a nice, normal, font. I also own a Qisan magicforce and these keycaps are way fucking better. Also love the gray/white/red colors.
>Media keys and hardware win key dissable

That is scooping.
The little nubs on most keyboards like the HHKB on the F & J keys are barred keycaps.

Any keycap can go on a backlit keyboard and still have light shine through. The thing with dye-sub is that the dye is burned into the keycap. That means you can't have a dye that is lighter then the cap itself, and last time I checked there is no such thing as an invisible dye.
>>
>>58069949
Das keyboards used to be good, but with every newer version the build quality decreases while the price stays the same. If you can find older models then do go for it, but I'd pass on the newer ones.

I'd say spend the extra 10 bucks and get a Ducky One with Dye-sub keycaps. Or you could go for these backlit ones

Switches and dye-sub keycaps will run you $100. CNC cases are expensive depending on the materials. For around $400-500 you can go fully custom including everything from the keycaps to the feet.
If you don't mind acrylic and cheap plastics then then price is much much lower.
>>
>>58072169
CNC case wouldn't be too bad because I could always buy a drill press and mill it out of a block of aluminum by hand. As a bonus I'd have a drill press after the project.
>>
>>58072192
CNC machines are very expensive tho.
>>
>>58072192

>>
>>58072207
Yeah, CNC means a machine does it. You can know you can mill things by hand with a drill press. They come with vise kits that move on x and y. You'd just have to reposition a lot to finish the piece.

>>58072199
That's why I said drill press. I can find one of those for under a hundred.

It would be possible, but anodized aluminum would be very expensive especially since you're gonna mill it from a single block, but thats if you want to copy that hipster numpad. If you make it out of plastic then it should cost no more then 20 bucks to make the case.

Do you have a Goodwill Outlet nearby? Found a Model M2 on my second day visit. It works great too.
bring gloves and go there early as possible, ideally when it opens for the day.
>>
>>58073194
I'm in Central Europe. American made personal computers weren't too big around here. There isn't such a surplus of OG mechanical keyboards floating around as I believe there is in the US. Thank you for your advice. As Goodwill-type stores don't exist around here, my best chance would probably to go out to a flea market and spend some time there looking around. (Or I just don't know the right places. There are a lot of second hand stores but they only sell clothing. Used and old computer goods are sold in specialist stores, but they tend to know if they have a ""valuable"" keyboard at their hands and price it accordingly.)

I should think that older hardware, being closer to the belated cutting-edge available in an economy-stunted second-world country, would be more prevalent there than here.

No?
>>
Just bought a matias ergo pro. Should have asked before, but are there any problems with this board I should know about?
>>
>>58073282
You are a bit late to the old mechanical keyboard collecting game unfortunately.
Most boards were found by enthusiasts couple years ago. They are either being sold at a price you consider overpriced, are currently being used, or collecting dust in some collector's shelf.
Why can't people only take what they need? collecting is fine, but why do they have to buy the same exact keyboard with the exact same model number 20+ times and hoard them?
:(

also check out r/mechmarket for european stuff
>>
>>58073419
We are past that time when people just held on to their trusty old hardware instead of upgrading to cutting edge. That may have been a case in the early 90s. After that period, companies upgraded their equipment to chinkshit or whatever logitech was cheap.

I think whatever high quality hardware (such as mech keyboards) was either already passed off to the second hand market and its already gone to the enthusiasts, and what's left is either shit or overpriced.

>>58073454
Already typed out the previous paragraph, but exactly this. I know I'm late, I'm 24 and I have shunned the idea of getting a mech kb for a long time because I thought it's just a desk fedora, equivalent to a vape when it comes to /g/ memes. .. The thing that I saw them on leddit all the time didn't help either.

But I won't give up.

why do you think people here are never happy and keep buying the new switch of the month?

rubberdome came last in the history of keyboard and it is the final evolution.
The only problem is that cheap rubberdome age bad and get mushy, also need bottom out to actuate

What people look for in mechs, but never find it, is actually the Topre feel.
Rubberdome, done well.

They came about because they were the cheap alternative to mechanical keyboards. Even the overpriced topre rubber domes are eventually going to change in feel. It's still rubber after all.
