Trying virtualization with virt-manager running windows 10 on a debian host. Network isnt working when I try to make one in virt-manager, I get this error:
Error creating virtual network: internal error: Failed to apply firewall rules /sbin/iptables -w --table nat --insert POSTROUTING --source 192.168.100.0/24 '!' --destination 192.168.100.0/24 --out-interface eth0 --jump MASQUERADE: iptables v1.6.0: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

I can run iptables as a command, but it is not started as a module. Should I have one. I am running a custom kernel so this vm thing works. Virt-manager is being run as root.

you're trying too hard
>>
>>58047921
It may surprise you but "most people" actually use unix-like operating systems akin to linux in production environments and not to screw around on a personal desktop machines (there are operating systems for that)

bash was "in the right place in the right time" which allowed it to become the most widely used shell today and therefore has the most scripts written for it.

For vast majority of actual *nix users compatibility with bash is an absolute must.

What I would do is go into your i3status.conf and comment out one thing at a time, save and restart to find out where the problem is.

Code related. Put a # in front of a line to prevent it from running. The stuff below won't matter as long as you comment it out in this section.

order += "volume master"
#order += "disk /"
#order += "disk /home"
#order += "run_watch DHCP"
#order += "ipv6"
#order += "run_watch VPN"
order += "wireless wlp4s0"
#order += "ethernet enp0s25"
order += "battery 1"
#order += "cpu_temperature 1"
order += "cpu_usage 0"
#order += "load"
order += "tztime local"

Or you could just try throwing a whole new config in there. Here's mine.

Fellow supernerds... gotta a quick question about LVM.

I'm reading an admin guide on how to setup a system that uses LVM and I came across this part:

# lvm vgcreate vgroup /dev/mapper/enc-lvm
# lvm lvcreate -L 50GB -n root vgroup
# lvm lvcreate -l 95%free -n home vgroup

Why split root and home? (/boot is actually outside the LVM so booting is not the reason for this.)

Rationale is not quite explained well and they say this:

Hey all, I'm installing Mint on a small msata drive that came with my laptop for Windows recovery. It's about 20GB. How much space does a usual Linux install take up? And should I bother with a swap partition if I don't really plan on hibernating while booting into Linux? I should have at least a 1 GB swap, right? And on a small drive like this, do I have to partition it between root and home, or can I just install using just the whole drive for everything?

Finally, any decent guides or textbooks I should read to get started with programming on Linux? I've been using huge IDEs like Visual Studio and Eclipse on Windows and feel kind of daunted when I see things like vim, command line compiling, etc.

I've used them for C++, C#, and Java. In the past month I've been practicing using git and visual studio's command line to compile and push, but for both of them I'm still a bit reliant on being able to click on executable binaries and shortcuts.

>>58049922
Would Ubuntu minimal also work? I've had some experience with it in the past.

>>58049937
The only problem was when I tried to use the format/install option, I would mess up the dual boot with grub because my msata is sdb and it keeps trying to install the boot files on sda, my windows ssd that I'm wanting to keep untouched. I got around this by using advanced partitioning, but all the guides I've read on setting up dual boots have me making three partitions for root/swap/home, and doing without them gets me an error trying to move forward.

>It's just a preference. An acquired taste, like beer maybe.
Part of me wants to acquire a taste, because I feel like I don't understand a lot of what's happening under the hood when I did a lot of my small programming assignments. I never used the debugger either, so it felt wasteful using these things to write hello world. About the only thing I would miss is the GUI designer, but I hear there's separate software for that on Linux.

However I was arguing with you on logical grounds, and I would like to point out that even if my answer was NO it still is not a logical contradiction.
If someone did deem it "unacceptable" to use proprietary software and that was their logical conclusion it is not a contradiction for them to still use proprietary software.
Actions are not logical statements. The action of using proprietary software is most emphatically NOT a claim that we should use proprietary software.
The logical claim and the action are two entirely separate entities.

does stallman make this claim "NEVER use proprietary software"? has he used it after making this claim (if he ever made it)?
if not, there's no reason for me to watch them. i'm not interested in someone who has created a following of such retards who don't understand the most basic stuff.

Even if you think RMS is a retard, you should watch his speeches, so you can actually know what you are talking about when you attack him or his view. How would you know without learning about them?
>>
>>58050758
Are you honestly going to tell me that you have never once in your life procrastinated on anything? You've never once had homework that you knew you should be doing instead of playing a video game?
You've never once said "I probably shouldn't eat this, but it looks so fucking good so I'm going to do it anyway"?

You've never done anything like that in your life, is that what I'm to understand here?

have i ever said he's a retard? i don't know much about him personally to say so yet. i've said he has created a following of retards which is most definitely true. can you not read basic English sentences? I mean, it's pretty easy to understand that he cannot be his own follower so the statement about retardation is obviously aimed at someone else
Which speeches should I watch and why? Give me youtube (kek) links.
>>58050804
I didn't claim i have to do homework every single time without skipping it. I know that isn't the best thing to do but I have never claimed that it's the only possibly scenario and anything else is morally wrong and should NEVER
I have done things which I know are bad, but at no point in time have I said "slavery is morally unjust and should never be done" and then proceeded to own multiple slaves.
Saying "x is bad and should be avoided if possible" or anything to that effect and saying "x should never be done" are two very different statements.

I'm trying to get this stats script for mpv to work.

I have downloaded the stats.lua file here
https://github.com/Argon-/mpv-stats

And created a folder called scripts in my /.config/mpv/ directory and put the stats.lua file in there.

When I press i or I in mpv nothing happens.

I tried creating /.mpv/scripts/ in my home directory and put the stats.lua file there and still nothing happens.

Where am I supposed to put this file? Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

Saying "i don't use proprietary software" while still using it is definitely a contradiction.
Saying "proprietary software should NEVER be used" while still using it is not a contradiction.

>you even used this fucking word. i honestly hope you are a troll at this point.
You get on my case for using the word "probably" when we've been using the word "SHOULD" this entire fucking time? Have you just been ignoring "should" and assuming we're making absolute statements here?

Let me just ask you that same exact question then without the "probably" in front of it.

Have you literally never in your life said "I should do this" while going on to do something else because it's what you wanted to do instead?

I think I figured it out.

It says on that page you need mpv version 18 for it to work.

When I run
>sudo list mpv
It says
>mpv/xenial, now 0.14.0-lbuildl amd 64 installed

Does this mean my mpv is version 14?

Do you even know what the word "should" means?

It's like you think that if I scratch my nose I'm making a big claim to the world that "we should all scratch our noses!"
or if I kill someone I'm saying "we should all be killing people!"

Actions are not claims, or logical statements.

If I kill someone and then say "we never kill people" that's a contradiction.
If I kill someone and then say "we should never kill people" that's not a logical contradiction. Why can't I maintain that murder is bad while still doing it?
I would simply have to conclude that I'm doing something bad, but that's not a contradiction.

Just like freetards using proprietary software must conclude that they're behaving incorrectly, or being hypocricial douches. Fine. But it's still not logically contradicting their claim that they "should" be doing something a different way.

wow, you really are this stupid. reread my post where i replied to "actions are not claims..."
actions can contradict claims, this is enough to dismiss everything you've said here.
it isn't one because you committed the murder before saying so, your entire "argument" is null and void. you would still be a hypocrite if you said this before murdering someone and then tried to justify your murder by using retarded mental gymnastics and word games (the thing your doing right now by trying to use the colloquial definition of "should" when i EXPLICITYL used it as an absolute). you can't do something you said never to do and not be a hypocrite after that. you are fucking contradicting the previous statement if you do, how is this not obvious? you are a native speaker of English, right? then i don't see how you cannot understand that the following demonstrates a basic contradiction (a child should be able to understand this)
A: NEVER do x (NOT let's not do x or maybe we shouldn't do x or any other fucking retarded word game variation of this you'll pull out of your ass next)
A: *does x*
B: You're a hypocrite and you're being internally inconsistent by contradicting the statement you've just made.
A: but im not xD
fuck off if you can't grasp this
