I just installed Solus OS AMA.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I just installed Solus OS AMA.
>>
>>58045717
Do you use it with i3?
>>
>>58045717
how do you like the kevinnet
oops i meant solus
>>
>>58045717
How does it feel to use an OS where you can't install many applications?
>>
>>58045774
No i use bungie

>>58045777
Kevinet is pretty slow tbqh, Kevinet needs more repo mirrors.

>>58045790
It actually has all the stuff i need out of the box.
>>
>>58045717
I thought you already had Solus installed Kevin?
>>
I don't like this distribution!
>>
Better than manjaro?
>>
Problems so far:

slow repos
wonky looking fonts in FF
the software center has a bug where it keeps saying "please wait" even though it's already done but it can be fixed by closing it and opening it again.

Pros:
Detected SSD out of the box and automatically inserted the discard option in /etc/fstab

Bungie is actually really nice, It's better than cinnamon

Rolling release model

Has all the apps i usually need already installed by default.
>>
Heres a screenshot showing the weird fonts in FF.
>>
another
>>
>>58045806
>No i use bungie[sic]
Why use such a good distro just to ruin it with tweaked GNOME?
>>58045790
It has all the applications you'll ever need
>>
>>58045911
Because it's nice and just works out of the box.
>>
>>58045717
how is the package manager and it's repo's set up?
>>
>>58045806
>It actually has all the stuff i need out of the box.
>>58045911
>It has all the applications you'll ever need

As a previous Solus user said "Anyone who needs to install more than 10 applications don't know what they are doing, that's just bloat."

So how does it feel to survive on a minimal system?
>>
>>58046009
It uses a software center frontend so you don't have to fiddle with the terminal.

It also has 3rd party stuff you can enable from within the software center.
>>
>>58046051
3rd party
>>
>>58045969
Yeah, it's kind of amazing how few distros manage to ship with a great working DE
>>
>>58045848
Much better.
>>58045809
I'm noy OP
>>58045873
It's Budgie, not bungie. And I only find the repo to load slowly on the unstable branch, but the new package manager is being completely rewritten from scratch in C and is called sol.
>>
>>58045873
i had that problem with the software center but an update not long ago seemed to fix it
>>
>>58046080
why don't they put google chrome in the internet software category
wtf lol
>>
>>58046890
licensing. it's in the 3rd party category
>>
>>58046890
Another thing i would like to note is i did actually click install on google chrome but it failed to install it. I don't think it was able to contact the repo.

The repo's for this OS are really the only deal breaker i see so far.

>>
>>58047797
The repos are slow as molases.

It just took me 20 minutes to download open office writer.
>>
>>58048744
Mate what? that sounds more like a you issue, I can download everything fast. It's definitely faster than APT and it's even faster at downloading items than PacMan is.
>>
>>58048780
Proof.

>solus has slow repos
I've been using it for a couple of months and never noticed.
Probably cause Australian internet is shit
>>
>>58048958
I live in the US. Is there a US mirror?
>>
>>58049048
Pretty sure the repo is in the US.
I just meant that Australian internet is slow so all repos are the same to me

It's also the best gaming experience (Steam) and best Linux experience (overall).

In what way is this news? Just shows how pathetic you are.
>>

I'm not allowed on #Solus-Chat anymore :(
>>
>>58049744
That's what you get for being an insufferable child
>>
>>58049877
If i promise not to talk about Kevin can i come back to solus-chat?
>>
>>58049898
No.
>>
>>58045717
So how does it actually feel being the victim of a site-wide prank on 4chan?
>>
>>58050184
Feels good finding and using an OS that's fast, stable, bleeding edge, just werks, and looks great out the box 2bh.
Loving Solus so far, great distro.

What's this prank you're talking about?
>>
>>58050219
I'm waiting for the first guys that are going to install DOS because it runs super fast, stable and works out of the box.

The only thing it seems to take is for some trollbots to post that meme 5000 times a day.
>>
>>58050184
Honestly i had no idea who kevin was, I just heard it brought up here a few times so it thought i would joke about it but apparently kevin upsets certain people in the solus community.

I do like the distro though it's pretty nice. Not sure why my repo is slower than everyone elses though.
>>
>>58050276
why would anyone use dos in 2016 when it's slower and less capable than a distro like Solus?
>>
>>58050530
He was strawmanning because he has no argument.
>>
>>58050869
I wonder why they do that.
It just looks stupid
>>
>>58045717
Does it feature workspaces and a drop-down terminal? Literally life nessecities right here
>>
>>58052362
I don't see any way to use workspaces on budgie.

Drop down term is not installed by default but im sure you could install a terminal to do that if you really wanted it.
>>
>>58052448
ctrl+alt+right arrow to go to another workspace.
>>
Why not install arch and download budgie-git off the aur. Arch is the official dev environment for them so it generally works much better.
>>
>>58052448
It's in Raven, just an option to add workspaces to the desktop like in other DEs.
>>
>>58052538
Because Arch is an unstable POS. And obese people use it.
>>
>>58052777
>Unstable meme
Why even come on /g if you are this dumb.
>>
>>58052812
I've used it before. It's shit. You name a distro and i've tried it. And not for days either. MONTHS.

I've been tinkering with Linux since 07 kiddo.
>>
>>58052968
If you have been using Linux properly since 07 you should be able to maintain a stable install of anything. This just further backs up my point that you are retarded.

Install solus
>>
I know Kevin irl ama
>>
>>58053094
That's the point you arch niggers don't seem to get. I don't want to maintain anything. If the user has to maintain the OS it's not worth a shit to begin with.
>>
>>58052777
Nice 7s.

Anyways, I got Budgie + Nemo running on Arch right now. It's fucking great.
>>
Solus is a pretty nice looking meme.

Any reason not to use it on my old laptop? It's been retired to a facebook/shitposting machine I can use in bed.

Currently using Fedora but not very happy.
>>
>>58053850
It's not our job to sell you a linux distro dude. Just try it out and see for yourself.
>>
>>58053201
Hi Jake.
>>
>>58045717
why do you waste your time doing that?
>>
>>58046049
>Anyone who needs to install more than 10 applications don't know what they are doing, that's just bloat
fuck this fucking board
>>
>>58045873
>slow repos
They're fine for me. What are you trying to install and are you doing it via software centre or command line?
>>
>>58054721
He's probably doing it from the software center and he probably has shit internet
>>
>>58054684
He's not wrong though
>>
Congrats welcome to my botnet
>>
i find solus to be perfect for my simple needs. it's my primary laptop OS and I'm considering making it my only OS depending on the advances in the new year.
>>
>>58054922
I use it for my HTPC and I'm really impressed so far. Everything is so fast and snappy, even the boot speeds on my junky HDD are only ~13 seconds, compared to the almost 1 minute I was getting on Fedora 24.
>>
>>58053148
install solus
